      Anonymous

The issue here is that even if we assume Trump is elected and in office (which won't be for almost a year and a half by which point Russia will be sniffing at 400k casualties at least if they last that long) this works entirely off the HOPE that Trump cares more about propping up a strong man who is very clearly losing the war than he does being beating the shit out of said strongman himself to make himself look stronger.
And honestly considering Russia only hit 100k around Christmas last year and is currently at 260k (meaning 160k dead/heavily wounded in 8 month and some change) I'd expect them to be closing in on 500k death/heavily wounded by January 2025

        >I know it's a wild idea to you mutts living halfway across the globe from where you """""""""wage wars"""""""""
I mean, you're not wrong in the sense that projecting power anyplace on the globe is one of the key things that differentiates an actual superpower from trash-tier thirdie dictatorships larping as some self-proclaimed "near-peer adversary", lol.
        >but the distance from Ukraine to Russia is short enough for drones to reach it.
And that's what differentiates the Russian Federation from claiming to be even a "regional power". The Russian military has suffered humiliation after humiliation less than a hundred miles from their own land border. There's not even a major mountain range in the way or something; it's a flatland steppe. Literally beneath contempt.
        >It's also a wild idea to you that the enemy might actually be competent and have good weapons.
You cannot possibly believe that the Yankee Military Industrial Complex has been sitting on its laurels since 1945, disinterested in research, development, or self-improvement. Or that the motivation for the MIC is anything other than facing a competent and well-equipped enemy. Now that, THAT would be a wild idea.
Just one example: ever heard of DARPA? This may shock you, but go read up on the history of the "Transmission Control Protocol" and the "Internet Protocol". They're quite popular as a means of accessing a Mongolian Basket Weaving forum with which you might be familiar.
        >It's not something anyone currently alive in muttland ever experienced.
So are you butthurt that the U.S. been successful in becoming that good, or that the efforts of wherever-you-are have proven so glaringly inferior? Maybe both?

          >differentiates the Russian Federation from claiming to be even a "regional power"
Sorry, but they are. Russia has an absolute shitload of neighbors it can invade, including all the Baltics, Poland, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, the Stans, Mongolia, and so on. They even have a land border with and a train route into China (if they're serious about national suicide just by the possible sheer numbers of chinsect wave attacks).

That's not even getting into their "gas pipeline diplomacy" that they used to subvert Germany and Hungary.

          It's a literal two-continent "region".

            Anonymous

Wow they've done a really good job subverting Germany and all of Western Europe with their "gas pipeline diplomacy". It only strengthened the US LNG industry so I guess that's a major Russian win. And they've done such a good job in Ukraine that Poland and the Baltics are sure things as well. Russia definitely has a lot of neighbors they can invade but few they can actually defeat.

The most hilarious thing is that Iraq was better equipped, better trained, more motivated, and had a larger military than Ukraine did at the start of their invasions, and it was on the other side of the world, and the USA still took it in a month. They literally had 3 world wars worth of chemical weapons, biological weapons and radiologic weapons. It could have destroyed the entire middle east if the war went on. Saddam would have used them and was trying to but he couldn't get to the stock piles fast enough. If you watch generation kill and see Mattis going nuts about tempo that's a huge reason why. They had to move that fast to prevent Saddam from getting to use them on American soldiers.

Iraq was the 4th largest army in the world when the USA invaded them. Only China and Russia were bigger. They had a huge arsenal of weaponry bought and paid with their oil money. An extensive air defense system, long range missile launchers, a large tank force, and half a million soldiers, with another half million reserves.

        Anonymous

Too much of a target and the range of those flak towers was too limited to really protect the cities. A better system for air defense would be trench roads between ammo bunkers similar to the Maginot Line. Rapid reloading turrets like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZVUBLn5pRI and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErWkoQ8AMtY built over the ammo bunkers would allow the quick deployment of a large number of interceptors. Russian missile launchers are infamous for their slow reloads because they never figured out unitizing and they still cling to the communist labor theory of value so they think automation will tek thur jarbz.

Also this is a nice little video on the rocket landing ships.

It's kind of shocking that no one thought to equip a destroyer hull with rockets that had both the range and payload to match battleships. Radio-guided bombs and planes with TV cameras did exist back then so PGMs would have been possible in theory for naval warfare.

They actually died to the last man in some battles. The Iraqi Republican Guard was hardcore in that they knew what a fight against what was effectively an alien force that would strike them down from the heavens was like and stood their ground (only to be annihilated) which earned them that reputation.
      >What a speed bump feels like to the US

        Anonymous

        Okay this isn’t entirely true
The republican guard were loyal (to Saddam) competent professionals and veterans of the iran iraq war. They fought well, and one of the main objectives of the war was their total destruction as a fighting force forevermore. This was second only to removing Saddam from Kuwait.
This objective was not achieved precisely because they retreated in not entirely good order. In fairness I believe this retreat was ordered and not spontaneous. Seeing this retreat the US bombed the stream of vehicles flowing back to Iraq full of loot and occupying Iraqis. This is better known as the highway of death, which was prematurely ended because the powers that be felt it looked bad (it did, because people have since been able to frame it as the US bombing civilians. This is because the looting republican guard were often driving stolen vehicles and laden with loot, which made them look like refugees once the flesh and clothes were charred unrecognisably. Iirc there were also occupation functionaries and their families. Few if any true “civilians” imho)

Tl;dr they were good but absolutely did retreat.

how was Desert Storm a clusterfuck, the US dismantled the Iraqi military with minimal losses. from the build up through to cessation of active combat it lasted less than a year and the coalition suffered less than 10 times as many casualties as the Iraqis. it was arguably the best prosecuted war in post WW2 American history

the US military's problem is it is always being assigned political objectives when all it really excels at is destroying other militaries

    >The irony of you barely sentient NPCs laughing at Russians
Russians are subhumans who have been ruled over by others for their entire history. First it was the Scythians, then the Norse, then the Mongols, then the Germans, and now the garden gnomes. They even recognized this, their greatest achievement in all Russian history happened when they begged the Swedish Rus to rule over them, because they knew they were incapable of doing it themselves. That is the peak, the absolute high point of Russian civilization, one brief singular moment of conscious thought.

Yeah it's performative, but if the Pantsir is about 4 meters tall and the platform 8 meters, you gain about 4 miles in radius if a drone is coming in at 35 meters off the ground. Might not seem much, but if you want to the rings to touch (and even overlap a little) to get defensive coverage getting 4 miles for the price of mobik labor and some compacted dirt is better than nothing.
