Russian Sources are claiming that the Explosions at the Rail Yard near the City of Pavlohrad were the result of a Missile Strike against 2 Divisions of up to 16 S-300 Launchers including Ammunition that was heading towards the Front; so far there is No Visual Evidence of this.

If true that's very, very unfortunate. S-300 launchers are kinda hard to come buy and although in the long term the US/friends could pull more Patriots/THAAD/SM-6/SM-3 for Ukraine, in the short term those assets aren't replaceable. Although some part of me questions how many of them were decoys lmao.

I'm also seeing on twitter that apparently 17 Tu-95Ms are in the air? One girl I follow who is actually reputable put it at 10 about 45 minutes ago.

      >If true that's very, very unfortunate
I really doubt they destroyed that many. But yeah, as Ukraine prepares for the counter-offensive, their S-300s become more exposed, which is definitely a problem they help with asap

        Anonymous

Ukrainian AA has never been able to hit Russian bombers or fighters sending standoff strikes over their own territory. Lack of anti-air changes nothing in that equation. The lack of SEAD/DEAD and proper allocation of consistent CAS shows AA is very much a threat to Russian aircraft inside Ukrainian airspace, bombing has picked up because Russia figured out it's discount JDAMs are superior for leveling key buildings in Bakhmut that their artillery isn't as efficient at dealing with. Those planes still fly low to avoid medium and long range systems.

i mean in the end we can dumb it down to this

how many aircrafts russia lost so far?100? in the grand scale of things its 1/12 of their total air power
and that while im removing the 92 old su 24 models that doesnt have rwr and they are practicly a shooting target
the real question is how many pilots have being killed so far

            Anonymous

for fixed wing craft there's around 80 visually confirmed but some of those are damaged like those bombers so it's up in the air if they return to service or not. Russia still retains a lot of it's air capability and they do make attempts to rescue pilots. No idea what their kill count is, but you could make the argument based on flight hours and experience losing Russian pilots sucks but probably doesn't hurt as badly as losing western once. There is a very discernable difference in skill between Russian pilots and western pilots. Pilot skill really really matters so by that metric Russia kinda already is a bit fricked even with zero losses kek.

Or the Ukies suddenly went so moronic that they left 16 sam batteries in the same place for no reason and lost more on one day than the rest of the war, which would be a russian hallmark move? They're definitely projecting.

I'm not saying is definitely true, the number of destroyed S-300s claimed in the OP seems way too high for a single attack. But, if they were S-300s there, they probably attacked that location because they knew beforehand that Ukraine had S-300s at that place

Ukrainian environmentalists are raising the alarm - the remains of nuclear rocket fuel with an expired storage period at the Pavlograd Chemical Plant in Pavlograd represent a monstrous threat on an international scale.

The warehouse, with its expired containers, could explode at any moment. At the same time, the explosion would flatten the city, turning the surrounding area into a lifeless wasteland. Toxic fuel compounds also threaten neighboring regions and other countries, according to Kiev media

Usual Russian projection of 'We pile all of our equipment and ammo in one place so it's believable that they do it too.'

In actuality they probably just hit an unremarkable ammo dump that may or may not have had an S-300 or two present.

The Russians likely theorized that hitting the ICBM depot would destroy the rail yard as well. And a depot full of fukhueg Soviet ICBMs is much easier to hit than a rail yard.

    My thoughts is

    >A: Mass loss of S-300 that for whatever reason were massed at one place, needlessly close to the area they intend to cover, that somehow all simultaneously failed at air defence while an air raid alert is active: Delusional cope of the highest level.
    >B: Himars for whatever reason chilling next to a high priority target despite its primary benefit being that it requires no extensive infrastructure to load up: Pure cope.
    >A massive stockpile of SS24 rockets with a shitton of rocket fuel: Plausible
    >It being one of several distribution points for ammunition supplies to the Zaporiznia front: Plausible.

At this point, figuring out the truth is pretty pointless. The Russians once they realized that A and B is fricking moronic will say its D even if its C, and the Ukranians will say its C even if its D. Big boom happened. Buildings got fricked. Go back to shleep.

The thing is though, we've seen so many actual ammunition depots go up in flames and this one looks really different. It looks like rocket fuel from those s300 and s400 missiles. Given that the Russians probably didn't hit any build of ukie air defence its most like option C

        Anonymous

Ukraine doesn't have any S-400 missiles so if Russia somehow blew up the S-400s Ukraine doesn't have, what Russia sold them to them?

Russia's claiming S-300s because it would be the most damaging piece of news after the leaks.

Without the leaks Russia would have claimed it was an entire division of HIMARs

      >It being one of several distribution points for ammunition supplies to the Zaporiznia front: Plausible
Whatever exploded it was solid rocket fuel, not ammunition, neither it was lone HIMARS.

It is possible that it was an S-300 MISSILE storage facility. During Operation Allied Force there were quite a few static SA-6 missile storage depots that went up while the actual SA-6 batteries were far removed and completely fine.

HIMARS is fricking ridiculous since there's only like 20 of them in the country but the rockets are possible, but why would they be there of all places?

Some old Soviet rockets that nobody had the money to dispose of, that were also too risky to actually use against the Russians, is a pretty good explanation. After all we saw just how negligent some people can be after the Beirut explosion.

It's old ICBMs and rocket fuel from the Soviet era that are useless without warheads and unmaintained anyhow. Russia fired at a target that would make a big boom in order to have something to show in response to the oil refinery. Shit has been there to hit, it's militarily useless though.

It's on the site of the rockets so if S-300s got hit it means they parked them next to a bunch of rocket fuel.

Or more plausibly, Russia looked for something flammable to hit because they were butthurt over looking unable to defend themselves from attacks due to the oil tank hit.

Is this retaliation for the tiny bit of Bakhmut the Ukrainians managed to recover?

It seems every time Putin catches something on the news that his 'Inner Circle' wasn't able to properly "filter" for him he throws a hissy for and orders another round of strategically irrelevant shelling in Ukraine.

Probably for that oil depot in Sevastopol. As usual, Ukraine blows something relevant to war efforts, ruzzia goes for a big explosion of long decommissioned hardware

ah, so literally the opposite is true, then.
