Russian intelligence says France will send 2000 men in Ukraine

>In a report carried by the Russian state news agency TASS on Tuesday, March 19 Sergey Naryshkin, Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), says that he “has data according to which France is already preparing a military contingent to send to Ukraine.”

>Naryshkin said the information Russia has received indicates that France is preparing an initial force of 2,000 troops for the operation and that “such a large military unit cannot be transferred and stationed in Ukraine unnoticed.

>“It will thus become a legitimate priority target for attacks by the Russian armed forces. This means that it will suffer the fate of all the French who have ever come to the Russian world with a sword.”

>An op-ed article in Tuesday’s Le Monde, written by France’s Chief of the Staff of the Army, Pierre Schill – headlined: “The French Army is ready” – may have reinforced the SVR’s concern that “there’s no smoke without fire.” However the Russians interpreted it, the article is a clear indication of the changing mindset in France towards the security of the nation, its territory, and its interests.

Any chance this could happen? What could 2000 troops do besides training other units?

The Russians never came close to pulling it off since they simply didn't have enough troops on the Kyiv axis, mostly thanks to that 40km long stalled convoy.

If the French actually send troops Putin is immediately put between a wiener and a hard place. There is no winning outcome for Russia the moment that happens and their response only dictates how bad the outcome is for them.

He's been threatening nukes and other very dire consequences for that and other things for literal years now but it was almost certainly empty threats. If those troops are sent and he fails to act the floodgates open and milsurp shipments turn into troops from around the world operating the latest versions instead. If he takes a half measure like somehow hitting France without violating anyone's airspace the same thing happens but the French, who would likely be murderously enraged to a medieval degree, go hard and don't stop at the Ukrainian border. There is no article 5 but it wouldn't matter. If Putain makes good on his threats and launches even a single nuke period (even if it's a dud) he gets the WWIII response and has to pray China and his CSTO vassals ride to his aid (lol). It's unlikely China would help because they're treaty bound to come to UKRAINE'S aid if anyone nukes the Ukes. I wager they're also smart enough to not ruin everything and become North Korea 4.0 over Putin. The only reason anyone is a member of CSTO is because they don't want to be the next Georgia (or Ukraine) so they kissed the ring expecting that to absolutely happen otherwise.

Normally I loathe Macron and the French government but you have to give them credit for having the balls to call this particular bluff and not immediately cower like so many others upon hearing the cry of "NOOK-OOK-OOK!" from the Kremlin.

To answer your question and summarize (TL;DR), 2000 French troops on their own probably wouldn't do much. However within 6 months it'd be a lot more than 2000 regardless of the Russian response or lack thereof and they wouldn't just be French. Once each "red line" is crossed it's basically gone.

Did you not read the posts anon~kyun <3? It only starts at 2,000 and pretty quickly wouldn't just be French troops. Once the red line is crossed it's gone as shown with every last milsurp shipment so far.

Even if somehow nobody followed suite or the French didn't decide to send even more after Putin's response (if there is one beyond tanrtuming) 2,000 troops is also a whole lot of capable trainers for Ukraine. Say what you will about the French, but they are quite capable of operating operationally.

            >since when?
Anon. If you have to say blatantly stupid things to make your point it's a bad point. They've pretty much always had solid troops. Their biggest problems have been arrogance and government which is what fricked them over in WWII.

Putin’s defense against Western military intervention has been nuclear response and it has worked out for him. He correctly read that the Biden admin won’t call that bluff, and he correctly read that without the U.S. leading the charge no one in Europe will take initiative and risk any kind of meaningful conflict. I’m sure he’s at least worried about Macron’s election stunts on mic but he probably believes (correctly) that the U.S. and/or the rest of Europe will stop him if he does actually try to go through with it. Basically, the modern Western political sphere has no appetite for even the RISK of a major war and if it weren’t for the U.S. pushing the Ukrainian project so hard to counter Russia it’s unlikely Europe would have provided more than token aid. Even with the U.S. pushing hard and giving out tremendous amounts of aid and pulling NATO back together, the best Europe will do is give away part of their old inventories and slowly, painfully, offer some money. Frankly the only serious mistake Putin made was trusting in his own military’s capability to execute an encirclement and regime-change of Kiev; if his military did have the readiness level to pull it off everything would have gone according to plan, almost without a doubt; just like in 2014 Europe would do almost NOTHING.

Except it honestly hasn't. If it did Ukraine would be turbofricked because nobody would have sent anything after the first nuclear threats. Instead his red lines are being crossed one after another. The single biggest red line pretty much everyone expected nukes over has already been crossed multiple times btw, enemy forces inside Russia. Eventually the fighter jets will show up too. At some point formal introduction of foreign troops, not just a bunch of volunteers, is on the menu. The problem with making nuke threats is it causes a LOT of problems. If you back down when someone says frick off or I nuke you EVERYONE will do that. The only correct move is to call their bluff and ensure nuclear belligerence doesn't become the new normal for wartime diplomacy.
            >the Ukrainian project
Got forbid we don't just let Russia invade all their unwilling neighbors and try to reforge the USSR without so much as a peep right? /misc/acks are fricking moronic. Absolutely a bunch of contrarian useful idiots.

If he'd actually planned it properly yeah, they probably would've taken Kyiv and the war would've been over inside 6 months and a puppet regime installed. Ukraine and Novorossiya would also be CSTO vassals. Instead we got the world's longest military traffic jam, a bunch of CAS pilots having unexplained erections that wouldn't go down and horrendous blue balls, and the Ukrainians pushing the the Russians back and forcing them to go defensive before the long stalemate we're in now.

Give it time /misc/ack. There's obviously something holding up the deal but it's pretty much a given Ukraine's getting those shiny new toys just like all the others they've been given. Eventually Tauruses will fly.

Hurts to have your galaxy brain strategic level intelligence insulted doesn't it? If you want to have your "intelligence" affirmed stay over on /misc/. On the bright side maybe you can finally get your intelligence affirming surgery once Neuralink goes mainstream.

                >throwaway troops
I really don't get why you'd think so highly of the Russians at this late in the game. It's legitimately mind boggling to me. They absolutely should have just shitstomped Ukraine but instead have been fought off until the sea of mines came to be and now are stalemated with any gains being small and costing horrific amounts of men and material. They've been reduced to using absolutely ancient garbage from the supposedly bottomless Soviet stockpiles which are emptying out. We all thought they were the 2nd strongest military on earth before the war but at least here most of us have come to the realization that we were fooled and Russia is a joke. T-55s belong in museums and scrapyards, not on the battlefield. Nuggets belong in American gun safes, not on the battlefield.

      This.
It’s not the 2000 troops that matters. It’s that it opens the door to more troops being sent if Putin doesn’t make good on his threats.
Monke doesn’t want to be stopped by anything short of brute force? So be it, bring on the winds of war. Let an example be made of Russia, once and for all.

so why dont you start at the suez, and work your way up to Russia?

or if france is so bold, why the pissant 2000 troops?
why not just send the whole thing, and stuff it up Putlers ass, end Russia once and for all even?

It's called mission creep. Similar to what we are seeing in Belgorod - after 3-4 days of the success of Russians killing Russians, Romanians showed up out of nowhere with light armor. Expect to see more of the same. A gradual & incremental expansion of an intervention that doesn't have an obvious mission from the enemy's perspective. The creep then gains momentum with initial success - in the France's case, the success will be confirmed by more Kremlin threats & Vatniks chimping out online. France will then move in more troops, perhaps with hardware next. Then expect more of the same. We don't expect you Ziggers to understand.

so frances strategic mission in ukraine is to provoke *threats* from Putler....that....somehow lead to france saying
