vatnik union had more meat and metal to throw around yet all the fundamental defects that plague the vatnik army today were all present with them. Hell, in certain cases like logistics were even far worse. No wonder as the officer core are both from the same school.

The central euro campaign would have unfolded the same way as ukranian northern """feint""" with a even bigger/faster defeat as allies mopped up the buck broken conscripts and burning metal piles starved of supplies/comms/leadership and sanity.

this cope about vatnik union being somehow magically better merely 50 years ago is just a wide variety of copelords trying to separate the reality from the propaganda/warped WW2 performance mystification from back in the day

NTA but Ukraine can into maneuver warfare, russia can't.
Ukraine did it in the kharkiv region, Russia hasn't managed to do something similar.
Ukraine got a new shipment up to 150-200 tanks plus almost a thousand IFVs from the west that are untouched and about to be deployed. You tell me... It may fail, of course, but it may succeed.

Even when Russia is invading another country, it's political apparatus looks inwards, worrying about where the next knife is coming. It's hard to get your head around, but bad systems benefit the narcissist.

Can't admit that to accomplish their goals they'd need to freeze the war and take time to reconstitute their forces. To admit this would be to admit that they got their ass kicked, that they did not just lose ~10k soldiers and that they have done nothing but lie about everything to everyone.
This is an unacceptable cost, so instead they'll be sending several hundred, if not thousands more of their men to die a preventable death in the hopes of moving the front a few kms forward. Just russian things.

If my understanding is correct, the city itself isn't advantageous in of itself, rather, the strategic high ground immediately beyond it is. Capturing Bahkmut would allow Russia to gain access to that high ground for deployment, reconnaissance and artillery. Russia can only make an advance in this region if they capture Bahkmut, which means they have to take the city, both for strategic means, but also to justify the sunk cost of Russia having basically annihilated Wagner's forces trying to capture it. For Ukraine, Bahkmut is an opportunity to both deny territory for Russia and slowly grind whittle down their forces in one concentrated killbox.

        >Capturing Bahkmut would allow Russia to gain access to that high ground for deployment

        lol no
Bahkmut is in a ditch. Check topography

The Russians are attacking Bahkmut for the simple fact the railways they have access to terminate around Bahkmut. You fight where you can logistically support fighting, and Bahkmut is that place for Russia.
        >can't they just use trucks tho????
        This is Russia.
