Russia losing a lot more T-80BV's recently

During the past week or so I noticed that there were a lot more T-80BV losses than usual, close to usual T-72 losses. Pic related counts 9 from the past week, keep in mind these are only the ones that were even photographed and identified.
Oryx's list currently counts 45 T-80BV losses, which includes some of these already, so this is an unusual spike in their usage/losses.
Why are the Russians only now zerg rushing in their T-80BV's? Why not T-72B's instead? I also noticed a small uptick in T72B3 Obr. 2016 losses the same week, as they were practically missing from the field all-together the past few weeks.

Russians thinking that they are gathering momentum and trying to exploit that?

they had a bunch of them shipped in a couple weeks ago and they've been hitting the front, that's all there is to it. tank attrition for the russians has been consistently insane the whole war

I wonder if they have enough experienced crews to keep this up, or if the losses are partly due to inexperienced crews operating complex tanks.

There are rumors they are downsizing tank crews to 2 with expected results.

That was at the start of the war where certain officers were keeping "ghost soldiers" and pocketing the extra money. I suspect it's much rarer now that there is an actual war on.

            >pocketing the extra money
Do vatnik regulars get paid cash in hand? Lol, lmao even. Selling equipment I get but come on surely not.

It's a proud tradition since times immemorial and one of the many things that contributed to the falling of several ancient empires.
And yes, the Russian officers were doing it, just like Russian factory managers do it.

Russian contract soldiers nominally get paid, not a lot but enough that it looks like a good deal to the average impoverished gopnik squatting in the post-Soviet shitholes outside Moscow and St. Petersburg. Conscripts on the other hand get maybe 30 dollars a month.

That's actually doctrine for Russian army from what I've read. A certain percentage of a unit is meant to be staffed by annual conscripts, and another portion is meant to be filled with with mobilized manpower in the event of war. Some BTGs exist with only 50-60% contract soldiers, by design.

I heard they downsized tank crews to 0 and they're propelled by pure orc evil now. Some say their power increased now that the LGBT month is over, science preserve us. Now we must hold out until February. The power of Afro-Ukrainian History Month will surely buff our damage.

I hear this year it's dedicated to russia's elite central African mercenaries and their sacrifices on behalf of protecting white western values.

I heard some tank crews were repurposed as airborne assault troops

          >downsizing tank crews to two
That will do wonders for the effectiveness of russian armor.

Well as people previously pointed out in the far rarer event an Abrams is knocked out, there is enough time for the crew to escape alive. When a Russian tank is hit because of where the amount is stored usually the entire crew is lost. So no they will run out of experienced crews.

I was thinking about those trains, I remember seeing the same train hauling 11 T-80BV's and 20 T-62M's in Irkutsk mid-June, I remember the exact same train arrived somewhere in Ukraine a week or two after (same load of tanks).
I'm almost certain some of those tanks on this train are part of these new losses.

No wonder, they have already lost most modern tanks and now are sending to the front scrap-metal that they are removing from storage.

Imagine how badly these scrapheaps burden their logistics and maintenance. So many things that can and will go wrong in an old tank that has not been stored properly or maintained

They're going for broke in the east to solidify their current minimum objectives, while at the same time pressuring the west to make Ukraine negotiate by blackmailing with oil and blockading Ukrainian grain to cause a famine.
That is, they're landgrabbing and forcing peace via secondary means
