Look, that makes no sense. I might be pro-Ukie, but this is moronic.
There no reason to SCRAM the reactors. The Ukies just want to shut it down so military operations in the area are less dangerous to them. But for Russia, keeping the reactors working means they can both claim to provide power & be benevolent, as well as discouraging military engagement anywhere near it.
In the meantime, Russia uses it to shield various units. Not doing preventative maintenance is probably due to fear of Ukie sabotage that could bring down the reactors and lower the value of this poker chip.

Anyway, Russia currently gains nothing from a nuclear mishap.
I refuse to believe what your claiming is anywhere near true. It makes no sense and sounds like pure makebelief propaganda.

That doesn't prevent them from spreading propaganda.

You, unlike the average Russian, have some idea how nuclear power works.
The average Russian on the other hand embodies the worst redneck stereotypes, including the deep seated desire to never let any "experts" tell him what to do.
The only way to avoid a nuclear mishap is to make sure there educated officers from Moscow or Petrograd tard-wrangling the soldiers because the officers of the Zaporozhye front are barely literate subhumans.

I guess time will tell. I find that hard to believe.

Nuclear reactors produce shittons of hydrogen gas. Even driving a truck in that building is huge risk not to mention packing it with even more explosives.

        >Nuclear reactors produce shittons of hydrogen gas. Even driving a truck in that building is huge risk not to mention packing it with even more explosives.
That's not how any of this works. Most reactors are built to withstand a crashing airliner without damage to the reactor... The worst you'll do is damaging the containment building which is only necessary in case of leaks. It merely serves to contain harmful radiation products in case of a reactor breach.

        Please, do some research.

They already ordered conscripts to dig up radioactive dirt without so much as a respirator, nothing is outside the realm of stupidity with them. Christs sake they completely skipped over the idea of containment buildings until it became too politically unstable not to do so with Chernobyl. Whether on land or at sea Russians and nuclear material is a very bad combo.

Hoooo boy the people there loved to talk about the good old days and what a horrible thing is going on with the removal of all the communist symbols/statues etc. There is also a large hydro-electric dam in the city that I believe 100+ people died in constructing and it was also touted as one of the greatest gifts Lenin gave to the people there.

Any radiation leak significant enough to require evacuation of Russian personnel would be a disaster level event. Radiation doesn’t just leak out of a reactor. You could perhaps argue contamination but even then any such contamination would be highly localized, so it would just be “hey don’t go to this area.” Still you could sit on a pile of trash with a contamination level of 100k dpm for an hour with little total absorbed dose, main issue is breathing it in or eating it.

chernobyl was a live reactor, that was operated out of its safety parameters. chernobyl was also an RBMK reactor while zeporizhzhia is PWR. the only way to create a nuclear explosion is to put the nuclear material in a very specific configuration, which is not possible accidentally.

The blast that took off the core cap (the second one) was a criticality event of about 0.3 kilotons. Reactors are fairly tough structures to contain the forces within so a 152mm shell or two hitting a plant is not an issue reallly

no it wasn't, stop spreading bullshit, there are theories about there being a minimal nuclear event inside the fuel rods, but those are theories, and not what caused the reactor vessel to rupture:

NATO doesn't want to engage a war with Russia though if it can be avoided. That is exactly why NATO countries are supplying Ukraine with all that fancy shit right now - they want to make sure that the Russian army dies in Ukraine so that monke can't even think of going against Poland or Romania.

If one lone reactor blows up and starts contaminating one NATO country or two that's a tragedy, but probably not enough to unleash the dogs of war.

You wouldn't, if the alternative is straight up WW3. A little bit of fallout is still better than the entirety of Eurasia breathing gamma radiation for the next couple weeks.

No, you don't. Letting Russia get away with blowing up a nuclear reactor and forcing the creation of a second exclusion zone would create precedent that you can somehow get away with irradiating another country for thousands of years in war.
Instead you give him a clear ultimatum, ranging from "pull back to these lines or we will destroy your invasion force" or "pull out of the country or we will destroy your invasion force."
You don't know when the next time they'll claim an accident happened close to European borders and irradiated an entire small country, like the Baltics.

So letting a country that purposegully terrorizes the other ruin the literal earth for thousands of years should be permitted 3 times before we get mad because it could've been an accident? Despite it being entirely facilitated by Russian cruelty, guile and neglect.? No. Crack their skulls.

What are the chances if something does happen, other countries will get directly involved, can't imagine "nuclear terrorism" being a divisive target on stopping

Perhaps the United States should publicly declare that any destruction (intentional or otherwise) of Ukrainian nuclear reactors will be regarded to be an act of nuclear terrorism, "requiring a full retaliatory response" (as JFK put it) on the Russian Federation.

If they still don't get the message at that point, then immediate First Strike is not only warranted, but essential.

Basically this.. its so weird Russia keeps getting away with demands as the weaker position
                >we know you're nukes will completey wipe us out, but some of you will still die!
It's like they're aware how little value their lives hold compared to a westerner

How does taking over a nuclear power plant work? You have to keep it running or a big oopsie happens, but it seems like it would be difficult at best to have that happen when all the engineers are civilians of the nation you're invading.

If it seriously looks like the Russians are about to cause yet another Chernobyl, NATO should just start massive airstrikes on all Russian troop concentrations in Ukraine immediately, followed by a demand for complete and unconditional withdrawal or we start bombing Russian soil.

    >inb4 nukes

If the Russians seriously think this geopolitical chimpout is worth starting a nuclear war over, then we're wasting our time trying to reason with these people and should have struck first already.

    >be vatnik command
    >ukies keep blowing up your depots
    >distant monke screeching ia getting louder
    >suddenly, brilliant idea
    >start storing fuel and explosives at nuke reactor you captured
    >ukies don't blow it up
    >smugvatnik.txt
    >soon, reactor depot is the only depot left on the Southern front
    >all shells and rockets for everywhere between Kherson and Mariupol are stored here
    >all 50+year old munitions thrown everywhere like a landfill
    >smoooooker strikes again, but for real this time

Every country with nukes uses them as a deterrence. not just russia. You attack us we end the world, the viewpoint of almost every major country. Uk for example. Right now they have the lowest number of People in the Military. the lowest in the past 300 years infact. yet there still a major Power in the world due to the fact they gave zaddy America the gluck gluck 9000 for a shit ton of nukes. i say Britain is just the first country to do this. id say soon, probably not in our lifetime though. everyone is gonna Ditch big armys and just horde nukes to get what they want, the more nukes the country has the more they can dominate. always inchs from pulling the trigger, the only thing stopping them is the fact they will give them selfs a long long painful death compared to the country that there shooting at/ like a gun the instantly kills your enemy but there another barrel always pointing at your thigh. In that i wouldn't be surprised thats how we get world peace,

The IAEA. But IAEA safeguards are mostly there to keep people from stealing uranium/plutonium and making atom bombs. They don't oversee the day to day safety of plants.

      >Ukrainian mayor shares cryptic post about deadly 'incident' at Russian-controlled plant
      >"In the afternoon, 9 soldiers of the terrorist country were urgently delivered to the city hospital with injuries of varying degrees of severity," Orlov said. "Some are treated on an outpatient basis, some are hospitalized. One of them in serious condition — in intensive care. There are also dead people, but we cannot name their exact number at the moment. We will not guess what caused the simultaneous 'thinning' of the ranks of the occupiers at the facility, which they seem to carefully 'guard'. I think the competent services will say about this later."
