Probably those countries didn't actually have any serviceable tanks to sell. There's a lot of rust collections in the countries that opted for Russian support once. Lots of defense budgets that were invested in Swiss bank accounts.

I bet global warming messed up their condition a lot. The arctic is warming faster than any other region and they probably relied on the constant below freezing temps to keep things dry and keep them from rusting. With things heating up to above freezing in most of the arctic now the shit they stored there is almost assuredly rusted to all hell.

Russia doesn't even have close to 10k tanks in reality. Do you know why America has 3500 tanks sitting in the desert, stripped of delicate electronics and kept under armed guard? You're about to find out.

What’s the situation on their engines and gearbox for most of their reserve tanks?
You need to perform constant maintenance and run the engines every few months, otherwise the engine will not start when it’s neefef.
The time it takes to replace/overhaul an engine is enormous and costly. If they didn’t put the budget to maintaining those 12-15000 tanks, they’re only good for spare parts for the few that survived multiple cycles of Russian winter.

in Poland t72 that are retrieved from cold storage are disassembled completely and assembled with new parts that are prone to aging ( seals, hoses, wires) - that's only way to ensure they are reliable - on other hand we could only refurbish around 50 tanks/year this way...
twenty years ago we had around 900 t72 (including pt91) but sold few hundred of those - after sending 400 to ukraine we will still have around 300 left and those are not in any usable shape (and possibly even not complete tanks at this point of going trough our stock)...

Do they have 11500 crew to crew them? Do they have the fuel to supply them? The ammo to supply them? The rations to feed the crew? The logistics to keep them going on advances? The maintenance crews to keep them going after a track slip?

Real life isn't a video game where you spend a resource and out pops a fully equipped and ready to go tank that doesn't require anything.

      Anonymous

11500 crew? Just to have the minimum number of guys in the T-62s and T-55s they've got rusting in scrap heaps, you need just about 46000 personnel.
Now the situation in the T-72s, T-64s and T-80s is less bad, but you still need at minimum a minimum of three crew.
So actually it's worse - tell me where Russia is going to suddenly get 50,000 plus men who can not only crew the tanks but instructors to teach all of those buttholes.

This is different. They're fighting nazis. You know, the ones they had fifty years to root out in areas they controlled.
At least when Kursk sank, it was a stupid accident, totally preventable. So when that Russian mother broke down screaming and sobbing at the officials, and they sedated her, there was a lot more national grief. this is a war, and there has been a lot of time and resources spent to justify it so that kind of dissent won't come out.

I think you underestimate how little a shit the West cares about Ukraine and her people. They are not allies, however much western nations drum up support. They would be content with letting the entire country burn so long as it causes severe economic and political distress for Russia. As for weaponry, this is quite literally what all of it was made for: Killing Russians by the thousands. You might as well complain the circus is running out of balloon animals.

My point is that America has a vested interest in this war dragging out for as long as possible to grind Russia's economy and warfighting capabilities into the dirt. If 200,000 Ukrainian men in 2 years to cause an equal number of Russians dead, America is fine with that. You are absolutely delusional if at this point you think Russia is exiting this conflict with anything better than a brokered peace and a cratered economy. Russia is not winning this war, it's just a measure of how much it is willing to lose. America is perfectly content with letting Russia decide what it wants to do, it only stands to gain more profit from export of military goods.

It has already been discussed to death that Russia lacks the chief components to build modern electronics for suitably advanced tanks. However, do they have the infrastructure to put together hastily-made T-72s and the like using antiquated materials? A homegrown vehicle with shoddy materials is better than nothing at all, no? I find it hard to believe that if this drags on for another year they won't put SOMETHING together to roll out, they don't have much of a choice here.

      Anonymous

I have no doubt at all that if Russia truly felt the need and had the will, they could refurbish a great number of their tanks with the most basic stuff - coincidence rangefinders, old engines, newer ERA etc.
However keep in mind that at the point this becomes a reality, every tank fight with the relatively modern UAF becomes Gulf War 1 all over again.

Russia had only 1200 reasonably modern tanks upgraded or manufactured since 2000. They have all been destroyed or nearly all. Russia does not have 12500 tanks in reserve, This is a lie. The officer responsible for the vehicle graveyards killed himself a month into the war, they are water flooded moss and lichen overgrown hulks that had all electronics and optics removed and sold off and in most case the engines, gearboxes and anything else that could be sold to foreign buyers as well. Russia is a nation of massive lies and dedicated to lying. You should not believe ANYTHING the Russian government says, ESPECIALLY in relation to military power. Russian had between 2800 and 3600 deployable tanks before the war. It has lost about half, roughly 1700, including virtually all its most modern ones and their crews.

They were talking about tanks that Russia had in service at the moment, around 3000 late model T-72, T-80 and T-90. Why would I compare that to Abrams in storage? With storage, Russian tank force increases substantially.

Pic rel. You said "base m1s". There have been no base M1s in the inventory since the mid 2000s when they were refurbished and brought up to m1a1 SA or M1a2 SEP standards. Like I said, and just posted, the official Army acquisition page says there are exactly three variants of the Abrams in US service or storage right now.
                M1A1 SA, M1A2v2, and M1A2C.

America has 1700 M1A2's to counter Russian later gen tanks, even with obsolete M1A1's included to bring the total up to 2509 as you said here

the M1A1SA isn't obsolete (gen 2 thermal, gen 3 DU armor as in the M1A2 SEP), and the remainder are intended to be divested (sold off) in 3-4 years time.
At that point the entire US inventory will be M1A2 SEPs of various models.

That is five divisions of tanks, they didn't even invade with a fraction of that. They sent in 10-20 BTG which each contain a company of tanks at most, that's about 100-200 tanks.

Total on Ukrainian border, and within Ukraine or Crimea (even those not in battle), there have been deployed maybe 800 tanks. Obviously they weren't all vaporised, they're still around.

So where did you get 1000 tanks statistic from, I'd like to see that.

Maybe sending 50,000 guided ATGMs to Ukraine wasn't such a staggering failure if that's the case.

So you have an unverifiable claim based purely on conjecture with hundreds of photos which you have no evidence of being faked, other than that you think they are. And you are trying to argue no one should take stock in them, but have no way of actually proving that other than us taking you at your word. Why should anyone believe a single word you are saying?

All the losses, all the destroyed vehicles live, all the attacks, all the rotten bodies are all faked footage. The flag ship never sank either

                >unverifiable claim
As is everything Oryx posts, what part of this is odd for you? They attribute way more losses to Russia than they sent in tanks, it doesn't make sense, the burden of proof is on them to actually support their claim that those are Russian tanks.

                >other than that you think they are
As people are pointing out ITT, Russia has a small number of active MBTs. 1000 is more than a third of their number, you're telling me the Russian military suffered losses equalling to a third of their total number? Without anyone noticing except oryx???

It's not on me to prove such a ridiculous claim, that is 100% on you.

The part of it that is odd is that you have literally thousands of these photos in front of you and aren't bothering to point out any that you think are fake. The evidence has been presented with photo verification, you are free to dispute it at any time.

                >thousands of these photos
First of all, they're twitter posts. Second of all, a miniscule portion of these are Russian models. Why would I be required to point at every one I think looks fake, so you can say it doesn't, when such a small number of them are verified Russian losses?

The fact that a number of them are not in control by separatists or Ukrainians, and only Russia?

                What number.

Because that's the only number we can talk about as Russian losses.

Who cares if they originate from Twitter posts, they are photos of destroyed Russian tanks. You have made like half a dozen posts and you still haven't bothered to indicate a single one you have decided must be Ukrainian and not Russian. Which one of them are Ukrainian, go ahead and point them out. You're wasting everybody's time with this incredulous behavior, you have all the material right there to back up your claim, go nuts

OK I looked at your Oryx just to see how long it took me to find a fake. I could then divide the total by the fake, to find a rough percentage of fake sources. The first link is this:
                https://twitter.com/UAWeapons/status/1544797070883684353
A twitter post which shows a drone dropping something that pops (firework?) into a T-62 tank.

The tank isn't moving, has no crew, no sign of activity at all.

There is grafiti all over it, it is rusty, and all the ERA bricks are removed or expended. The only modification seems to be painting a Z straight over equipment.

Lmao, that “graffiti” has been the standard IDing measure for Russian and separatist equipment since the beginning of the war you stupid vatnik Black person. Id also recommend you become familiar with Russian tank variants and which side uses them before you try to argue that tank isn’t Russian.

                >It's rusty as shit with graffiti on it.
It's a soviet T-62M from 1983 which has likely been sitting in storage for 40 years. 62Ms don't have ERA, they have applique armor packages which are those oversized cheeks welded on. It's covered in graffiti because that's how Russia has been IDing it's tanks since the invasion started. It's Russian because Ukraine doesn't use T-62s, they use T-64s, T-80s, captured 72s, and captured 90s.

It's been five months. Are you genuinely incapable of IDing tanks at this point or are you being purposely obtuse in an attempt to make a point?

No you didn't. You said they invaded with a certain amount, without regard to the fact they have been continually reinforcing since then to replace losses. We've literally seen videos of trainloads of T-62s heading towards Ukraine.

Last I checked they pulled half of the people back from February. Or are we done gloating about that "retreat" and now assume it never happened? Haven't downloaded the latest opinions.

The only way your opinion makes sense is if you believe Novorossia actually is an Oblast of Russia. Then it makes sense, because the military of Novorossia are actually Russians.

I've been going through it, up until T-72B, most seem to be fake. Some tanks are bright red from rust, clearly weren't destroyed this year. Others have like two small "Z" painted over a rusty part of the tank, that in use, was covered by ERA. It's just nonstop obvious fakes.
I think I spotted five which look like they may be Russian or Separatist tanks so far.

But even if you take Onyx word for it, they have 390 Russian total, so the 1000 doesn't even make sense.

No, Russia was wholly dependent on US aid to keep its army running throughout the war, especially during 42-43. Without US vehicles, US metals, US fuel, US ammunition, US clothes, or US food the Russian army never would have been able to stage a successful counteroffensive against Germany in 43 and would have collapsed. You can read stories from Russian troops who say that the majority of the food they ate during their enlistment was from the US and that the wool in their jackets also came from US too. If you don’t like that you can even read accounts from Russian officers and politicians that Americans trucks were instrumental in keeping up the supply lines and transporting troops. Plus, Russian fuel was of such poor quality at the time that it was actually mixed with American fuel that had high enough octane content to power plane engines. It was also US steel that restarted the tank factories. US/UK aluminum also restarted the plane factories. And not to mention that a good amount of the machines in the factories came from the US as well. Even Stalin admitted that Russia would have lost if it was not for the US.

Russia provided the men and the US provided the equipment and material to keep them going. Russia literally owes America its continued existence.
