Rubber Turtle Tanks!

I'm utterly lost, I don't understand why you would want to add rubber to a Turtle Tank?

Well, if it's a choice between that, or ass rape, or ass rape with a drone, even a snow Black person will take up bolting copes to the dwindling supply of Puccian heavy equipment.

Rubber doesn't conduct electricity so the crew are immune to lightning element magic.

Cargo cult NERA. They probably found rubber in trashed T72B turrets and never learned why it was there.
To be fair, reactive armors of any type are not the easiest things to understand.

What is even the purpose of this armor? Like, I get it in theory: It maybe, possibly, stops drones from instantly entering your crew into the turret tossing championship by blowing up the ammo auto carousel from above. But from what I'm seeing those drones could still opt for a mobility kill instead. Sure, the tank's not immediately destroyed that way but if it throws a track while in no man's land it's still fricked in the long term and in the medium term so is probably its crew or at least part of it. Unless they manage to frick off under the cover of darkness or something and before this monstrosity is finished off for good.

Might be an attempt at stopping FPV drones which use two metal wires as the trigger to detonate as those work by having the mobik flesh complete the circuit to detonate the warhead.
      >rubber has high resistance so fpv no work*~~*~~*~~*~~)

        Anonymous

Pretty sure the wires aren't mobik sensitive, but are just pressed together when the drone hits any surface and thus closes the circuit. Cheap as frick and effective contact trigger.

They have to go forward and the tank will get disabled at least this way MAYBE you don’t die. I think at this point they’re thinking less about successfully attacking and instead about just surviving the attack so you can go back and say you tried.

rubber actually hardens up under high velocity impacts, so there is likely some efficacy. there are youtube videos of guys stopping rifle rounds using a few big rubber sheets

but the melting point is very low, so it is not an ideal material to stop molten copper

At the speed which a copper penetrator passes through pretty much anything there is no time for heat to be transferred. Please go learn how shaped charges work before opening your mouth again.

Maybe learn some materials science first moron
6 to 10 inches of layered fabric reinforced industrial synthetic (petroleum based) rubber will absorb or deflect extremely large fragments from explosives and any drone mounted or shoulder fired HEAT round will have its coppers heat dissipated into the rubber before it can do real damage to the steel armor under that layer of rubber.
That rubber is literally more expensive than steel of the same thickness

source: randomly guessed 200mm of laminated basalt fiber is sufficient for an effective turtle tank in the last thread about these moronic contraptions

Sheets of plywood and the like 6 feet of standoff distance for those turtle tanks would be effective considering thin tin sheets are pretty effective at stopping real damage from FPV drone based explosives

This is called Non-explosive Reactive Armor (NERA). Rubber has been used by Soviets tanks. Basically the Rubber is placed in the middle between two pieces of metal and when hit with a HEAT charge and when hit will expand to disrupt the copper jet somehow (idk how this works ngl but I know that the US uses depleted Uranium armor for the same reason). It is effective somewhat but I have no idea if it will help the turtle tank or if they even know how to install it properly

It's not NERA. It's a FAS baby cargo cult attempt at making composite tank armor. They find rubber side skirts and rubber elements in dead T72B turrets and assume it will help somehow to throw rubber sheets on their cope sheds, which are only functioning as simple spaced armor.

ERA and NERA work pretty much the same way. The armor plate moves as it is being penetrated, putting sheer forces on the penetrator. ERA moves it's plates a bit faster because it's exploding, whereas NERA needs much more mass and room to work.
With NERA the plates need to be suspended with rubber or springs under tension in order to get the desired effect. From what I've heard described about the DU elements in the abrams' armor arrays, it have much to do with NERA, but instead providing a high density medium that a penetrator will pass through intermittently, causing it to yaw and get fricked up even worse by the NERA plates. Or at least it sounds similar to the tungsten plugs in the Leopard 2A4's declassified armor arrays which I do know work that way.

      >muh nera
No, Rubber is used in the composite armor package to privde and insert between different plates. The rubber is there to be compressed between the two steel plates and bleed energy, it doesn't provide protection beyond that. Cladding your cuckcage with rubber mats is about as effective as using corrugated sheet metal.
