Any mission accomplished by these two, if they ever could without the extreme amount of guardrails that they already exist in, could more easily and more cost effectively be accomplished by either a quad copter or human

logic required for combat would take too much space and weight for ground based robots to be any good, youd have to put the ai in the cloud - like you do with ai planes - which then could just get jammed
If you skip that and go for miniatures instead, the logic will be too simple and will result in friendly fire and/or civ casualties

if you can prevent jamming, robots still need to communicate, provide feed and updates, receive orders - theyd give off a hefty radio signature, which then can get picked up by rw sensors and targetted from miles away with anti-radiation missiles... or just anti-rad mortar shells
its a failed concept for the same reason all those 'optionally manned' ground vehicles and ground drones US Army is working on are; as well as all that eWarrior junk that 'communicates' with everything around it - it just places your forces on the map and equips them with a projectile magnet so that they can get blown up easier with guided munitions

Each of the points you list have countermeasures that are, at largest, man portable.

For CQB alone, near future will have flying drones and land-walking bots. Countermeasures will include things like EMP grenades. Humans and largely autonomous robots will fight side by side very soon, possibly within the duration of the Ukraine War.

wait, you can prevent radio wave detection? i know you can encrypt stuff and also directinal blockers exist to counter jamming to some degree, but blocking someone from detecting source of emissions, or at least just the emissiones themselves, should not be possible, no?

also, id sooner bet on HPM cannons or jammer-like emitters than emp nades

yeah just checked - there are no countermeasures to someone picking up and locating your em signature, so anti-radiation weaponry would just blow up the squad with ground drones
swarms of small aerial drones can just get fried by a jammer thats strong enough, quad copters and big boy drones can just get shot down

there will be no drone warfare, unless against goat herders, and even then, an antenna is easier to build than a rifle

        >EMP grenades
Stop playing videogames moron EMP won't do shit against anything not so lightweight they removed all protection to the circuits for some reason.

      >robots still need to communicate, provide feed and updates, receive orders - theyd give off a hefty radio signature, which then can get picked up by rw sensors and targetted from miles away with anti-radiation missiles

You can imagine a land mine as an extremely simple autonomous drone that does one thing...sits there and waits to explode when someone or something triggers it. You could then set up drone swarms to do the same thing within a given battle zone...once planted and activated by an rw signal, they sit in hiding and kill anyone entering the zone without hesitation. No radio communication necessary. Just give them enough brains to fly up to what looks like a human head and explode.

no one will touch that with a 10 foot pole - its a device that upon activation seeks to kill anyone - civilians and friendlies included. You might as well use WMDs at a small scale at that point, thats how escalatory a weapon like that is. Video you posted is unrelated to the concept youre talking about - swarmers need to communicate with one another, jammers deal with that, and a jammer strong enough will actually kill a small drone by overloading the antenna and damaging electronics

thats the first problem, second problem is a drone that small wont pack a whole lot of punch, so the obvious counter everyone will develop is better armor

we will probably see something like that but activated and guided by air vibrations as a means of shooting down helicopters/drones tho, but i doubt we would see that at scale

          >no one will touch that with a 10 foot pole
          You are extremely naive.

            Anonymous

no, i just understand that a weapon like that is, descriptively, a WMD, and can trigger a WMD response

wanna deploy a weapon that indiscriminately kills anything in an area? Be prepared to get hit with the same. The enemy may not have the technology to use dumb drone swarms, so they may respond with chemical or biological weapons instead. It's just too escalatory, there have been reports by think tanks that 'killbots' will lead to more deadly conflicts that escalate fast, this type of weapon fits into that, so no one will want to touch that, cause they will have to do a whole lot of explaining when casualties start to pile up
