RMA Armor BTFO

If you were dumb enough to buy one of their plates, you might want to ask for a refund. And break out the popcorn, because they're going to hit you with every excuse in the book and it's going to be funny.
RMA's shit-tier 9lb plate made with Vietnam-era tech won't even reliably stop .30-06 M2AP.

I own RMA #1192 Lv4 multi curves. They are light weight and awesome. Tested one and it defeated everything we shot at it. Hesco is what you want to avoid after their 4400 series and 26 failed and were recalled.

The CEO says that one out of the 5 plates sent for NIJ certification failed a FIT test. RMA claims that no observable difference in construction was able to be determined between the plate that failed and the 4 that passed.

The CEO is now asking the testing center to confirm their .30-06 AP ammo was to spec. Testing center said they hand load their ammo and confirm velocity, but do to sourcing issues, all .30-06 AP projos are sourced as military surplus. RMA's CEO asked them if they could confirm that all projos were from the same manufacter, and they could not.

So now it sounds like either there is significant variety of projectiles in NIJ armor pen testing, or the RMA plates were all on the ragged edge of failing and one out of 5 failed.

      Anonymous

      > So now it sounds like either there is significant variety of projectiles in NIJ armor pen testing
Come on. EVERY fricking Level IV plate is tested against the same set of .30-06 APM2 projectiles, and has been from the very beginning. Yet somehow only RMA have encountered magical .30-06 APM2 bullets.
The sheer volume of pathetic excuses from RMA is astounding and pure cringe.
      > Or the RMA plates were all on the ragged edge of failing and one out of 5 failed.
Well, this is what happened. Their quality sucks, the plates aren't "overbuilt" like they would have people believe, and fiberglass isn't a decent ballistic material.

        Anonymous

        >the same set of .30-06 APM2 projectiles
Not according to the CEO, and I'm not familiar with NIJ procedures to agree or disagree.

The CEO is the biggest huckster and moron in the entire armor industry.
          > I-it's not our fault, the bullet was defective!
Every company is forced to test against the same bullets. Somehow only RMA has failed recently.

Gonna drop this since it’s relevant

          Now get to arguing

The 1189 is the slimiest plate ever built. They sold it as a 10x12" plate, but it has a 1" strip of foam edging, so it was actually 8x10". They didn't disclose this, and tried to cover it up when they were called out. Now it's discontinued.

            >> I-it's not our fault, the bullet was defective!
This is a super weak excuse by them. Whatever the steel in it is, it should get stopped.
            > but it has a 1" strip of foam edging, so it was actually 8x10".
Ignoring that, the plate did stop 3 shots of M2 from a .300WM. So it’s weird that .30-06 would make it through

That’s a different plate. The one OP is talking about is the 1155, the one in the video is the 1189.

I’ll say, I don’t know exactly how I feel about RMA, but I’m kind of suspicious of some of their claims revolving around “overbuilding” their plates. In Buffman’s testing, the 1155 hasn’t appeared to perform much differently from the Hesco 4400 that RMA’s supporters like to knock.

I also find it funny how said RMA supporters accuse Hesco of cutting the margins too thin to achieve lighter weight & baselessly speculate that the 4800 would be incapable of consistently meeting NIJ Level IV standards, and yet RMA created the 1199 plate which was actually observed from 3rd party testing to be truly borderline.

                Anonymous

Oh, that and sending Buffman an 1192 plate that was half a pound heavier than expected in anticipation of more advanced threat testing. There could be a couple explanations for exactly how this happened but pretty much none of them are good.

Right but there isn’t a difference in materials or threat rating is there? It was just dimension.
                > There could be a couple explanations for exactly how this happened but pretty much none of them are good.
Yeah I agree with that. The only way this is “ok” is if they plate got crushed by something very abnormal and got tested anyway. Which seems dumb and I feel like they’d notice that before shooting it

The NIJ should drop the minimum distance from the edge of a plat for a fair shot from two to one and a quarter inches when they come out with 0101.07. It would get rid of all cheat rings over night.

              >That’s certainly hyperbole
Considering they couldn't get unit price down to where LTC was for their bid, and the price LTC sold the 28590 at, it is not hyperbole.

              >I have a mistake I need to correct
How much can I put my 1092s up for on eBay?

I sold mine for 450 for the pair, some poor bastard in Cali or Illinois should snap em up quick.

How close are they to Level IV? A 5 pound RF2 plate isn't that crazy, but a 5 pound plate that'll stop M855A1 at 3300 fps and M80A1 is pretty fricking good.

Supposedly up to M61 AP, so within spitting distance of IV but still shy of the mark.

Yeah, good call. $199/ea should be okay for eBay.

somehow, i'm not convinced of some random information a moron posts on k when in the same statement they recommend hesco that actually does fail tests, regularly

They all fail tests every now and then, it's literally the nature of the game. If you keep buying different brands every other week you'll go crazy. Just buy whatever armor works for your budget and use case. LTC is personally my choice, but if you wanna go with RMA, Hesco, etc. I'm sure you'll be fine unless you are the poor bastard that is extremely unlucky, maybe at that point play the lottery kek.

That said if a company fails a LOT of NIJ FIT tests, then you should be worried.

RMA's problems go far beyond just failing a test. Cheat rings, lying about the materials they use, sending fraudulent overbuilt plates out for YouTube tests, and more. They're the worst in the biz, and now they don't even have a single certified ceramic plate.

True. They have been rather scummy, even up to the present day. Big red flag there.

            It's very much just...why

You're not buying steel plates so you've got some sense that there's a minimum price required for something that you're relying on to safe your life

With that context: Why would you ever go with RMA's pigfrick heavy, thick, cheat ringed NIJ failed shit. You can choose something else!

    how are hopelite plates?

Hoplite sells LTC plates, they are as solid as you can buy. AND he is the kind of schizo that hates the UN, good lad. Reddit gets incredibly asswrecked about him. I feel like the psychic emanations from me b***hing about him not selling LTC XSAPI made him start selling the 28601, so I will now attempt to get LTC hyper-glowplates to market.

I bought a pair of 1155s last week because they were cheap. I don't regret it. The plates are for practice: endurance training while doing a ruck, larping in multi-gun, and testing new powder loads so if something goes wrong I don't get shrapnel in my chest. I'll get some proper level 4s when I want to use them properly.
