If you were dumb enough to buy one of their plates, you might want to ask for a refund. And break out the popcorn, because they're going to hit you with every excuse in the book and it's going to be funny.
RMA's shit-tier 9lb plate made with Vietnam-era tech won't even reliably stop .30-06 M2AP.
I own RMA #1192 Lv4 multi curves. They are light weight and awesome. Tested one and it defeated everything we shot at it. Hesco is what you want to avoid after their 4400 series and 26 failed and were recalled.
you mean the same reason rma lost it's certification as hesco did?
no you dont, kid
LOL, the 1192 is an objectively shit-tier and overpriced plate, and 6.3 pounds isn't "light" for a plate at that price point.
>literally cutting corners on body armor
Tells me all I need to know about these motherfrickers.
Is there a video or something where the armor is torn down to see everything?
That's the 1192.
Here's the 1155: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhsGaYzgC1M
Fiberglass in an armor plate in 2023.
homosexual larpers who will never ever be in a situation when plates would be handy
If the israelites want it banned it must be something.
This. If someone doesn’t want me having something that’s reason enough to want it. Frick israelites.
That's the point
Why was it removed from their list?
>encouraged to continue wearing it through the evaluation period
Yawn. So it failed conditioning, not round stopping. This is a nothingburger.
They use that line on every recall.
I wouldn't normally get caught up in shit flinging about rifle plates, but
>purchasing a product from a company who calls themselves RMA
Seriously now.
Probably because it's still better than nothing.
The CEO says that one out of the 5 plates sent for NIJ certification failed a FIT test. RMA claims that no observable difference in construction was able to be determined between the plate that failed and the 4 that passed.
The CEO is now asking the testing center to confirm their .30-06 AP ammo was to spec. Testing center said they hand load their ammo and confirm velocity, but do to sourcing issues, all .30-06 AP projos are sourced as military surplus. RMA's CEO asked them if they could confirm that all projos were from the same manufacter, and they could not.
So now it sounds like either there is significant variety of projectiles in NIJ armor pen testing, or the RMA plates were all on the ragged edge of failing and one out of 5 failed.
> So now it sounds like either there is significant variety of projectiles in NIJ armor pen testing
Come on. EVERY fricking Level IV plate is tested against the same set of .30-06 APM2 projectiles, and has been from the very beginning. Yet somehow only RMA have encountered magical .30-06 APM2 bullets.
The sheer volume of pathetic excuses from RMA is astounding and pure cringe.
> Or the RMA plates were all on the ragged edge of failing and one out of 5 failed.
Well, this is what happened. Their quality sucks, the plates aren't "overbuilt" like they would have people believe, and fiberglass isn't a decent ballistic material.
>the same set of .30-06 APM2 projectiles
Not according to the CEO, and I'm not familiar with NIJ procedures to agree or disagree.
The CEO is the biggest huckster and moron in the entire armor industry.
> I-it's not our fault, the bullet was defective!
Every company is forced to test against the same bullets. Somehow only RMA has failed recently.
The 1189 is the slimiest plate ever built. They sold it as a 10x12" plate, but it has a 1" strip of foam edging, so it was actually 8x10". They didn't disclose this, and tried to cover it up when they were called out. Now it's discontinued.
>> I-it's not our fault, the bullet was defective!
This is a super weak excuse by them. Whatever the steel in it is, it should get stopped.
> but it has a 1" strip of foam edging, so it was actually 8x10".
Ignoring that, the plate did stop 3 shots of M2 from a .300WM. So it’s weird that .30-06 would make it through
> I-it was damaged in transit!
> I-it was also hit by a magic bullet!
> S-some of the other ones were okay, I swear!
> Ch... *sob*... check out our old YouTube test videos with Leviathan Tribe!!
These motherfrickers have literally zero dignity.
I’m not defending them. I’m trying to gather opinions because they have plates which stopped greater threats.
One of them is a fluke or they have super inconsistent QC
That’s a different plate. The one OP is talking about is the 1155, the one in the video is the 1189.
I’ll say, I don’t know exactly how I feel about RMA, but I’m kind of suspicious of some of their claims revolving around “overbuilding” their plates. In Buffman’s testing, the 1155 hasn’t appeared to perform much differently from the Hesco 4400 that RMA’s supporters like to knock.
I also find it funny how said RMA supporters accuse Hesco of cutting the margins too thin to achieve lighter weight & baselessly speculate that the 4800 would be incapable of consistently meeting NIJ Level IV standards, and yet RMA created the 1199 plate which was actually observed from 3rd party testing to be truly borderline.
Oh, that and sending Buffman an 1192 plate that was half a pound heavier than expected in anticipation of more advanced threat testing. There could be a couple explanations for exactly how this happened but pretty much none of them are good.
>That’s a different plate. The one OP is talking about is the 1155, the one in the video is the 1189.
Right but there isn’t a difference in materials or threat rating is there? It was just dimension.
> There could be a couple explanations for exactly how this happened but pretty much none of them are good.
Yeah I agree with that. The only way this is “ok” is if they plate got crushed by something very abnormal and got tested anyway. Which seems dumb and I feel like they’d notice that before shooting it
Devil's advocate; there was a lot of resized pulldown 7.62x54r B32 API projectiles that were sold as M2 a while back when slavshit was still being importef
That's not what the NIJ would use, though.
Gonna drop this since it’s relevant
Now get to arguing
I don't know jack shit about their plate quality, but how in the frick do your name a company that sells life saving equipment with the same initials as a Return Merchandise Authorization order?
The founder named it after his daughters initials, very cute
Still moronic. It could have been RAM or MAR, both of which sound much cooler than "RMA".
And, basically, they sell really shitty armor.
I don't want you to have herpes, anon.
So, what does /k/ recommend as a starter level 4 plate then?
Hesco 4400/4401. It's more than a pound lighter, costs about the same, and they haven't failed a FIT test in like 5 years, despite being under crazy scrutiny.
They also aren't nearly as cringe as RMA. When they fricked up, they didn't start whining publicly about magic bullets and that darn USPS mailmain. They just set it right.
ty anon, I will look into them
Was it the 4600 that got permanently removed from the NIJ Compliant Products List? There was an advisory letter about it but it's still in their list.
Looks fine to me
Why is there always an anti RMA schizo on this board? Just buy whatever you want, HESCO, RMA, LTC, they're all reputable armor manufacturers, yes kids, sometimes a product is defective and is damaged/incorrect one out of thousands it's called fricking life dipshits.
>Cheat rings and failure to stop bulletson their only lvl 4
>"all reputable armor manufacturers"
>Trying to pass off RMA as even approaching LTC quality in this year of our Lord 2023 on a Swedish rope-making forum
meds now
Kippah, now
They are Botach/Premier Body Armor/Shitstop tier at best. Shit to be peddled to idiots
> t. bought RMA plates
lmfaooooo
Seriously, bro, try to return them for a refund and get something better.
> LTC
> Hesco
...
> RMA
You are a moron.
They are the most shilled company beside AR500, and considering their actual product they deserve all the anti-shilling right back in return.
Its like a door-to-door salesman saying "oy vey why all the anti-salesman schizos", you fricking deserve it for pushing your bullshit.
Also those FRICKING israeliteS bait-and-switched on the 1192 without so much as a word to the public. They STILL havent updated their product description for the 1192 with the "updated" "Silicon Carbide" strikeface, they are still LYING to people and calling it a Boron Carbide plate. FALSE ADVERTISING, LYING SNAKE company. They dont even have the good sense to update its weight and thickness, and you STILL simp for this company?
They attempted to sue people whistleblowing the 1189 and 1199 as being 8x10s in a 10x12 package, that is premium hassidic cope right there, this company is not good. And now they fail a FIT and you have the AUDACITY to call people shit-talking RMA schitzos? We just pay attention man.
Cringe. Imagine even considering buying anything from RMA.
Very decent entry-level plates.
I don't what to think of this, but at least they're not incredibly dishonest and shady.
>1/1000 failure rate is acceptable QA
shalom my brother
We don't even know the actual failure rate, but it's definitely over 1/1000.
And this is a 9 pound plate. wtf?
>armor thread
How is HighCom 4s17? I bought them back in 2020 from Shellback Tactical and the Banshee plate carrier and really like both, are they gtg?
>And break out the popcorn
reddit moment
I have Shotstop diturium (or whatever) lv4 plates, are they sussin' or bussin'? No cap am I gonna die in Bakhmut?
>plates
>stop arty
Yep, just stand out in the open.
Well you got to do what you can, all things considered.
>plates
>stop arty
Yes of course
>No cap am I gonna die in Bakhmut?
Not my job, but didn't they issue ICW plates + soft armor for exactly this reason?
pretty sure shotstop took RMa's cheat ring idea and ran with it. enjoy your 8x10 plate.
You mean there's no such thing as magic DIRITIRUM?!?
Do you have any source for that? Not that I don't believe you I just want to read up. I wanted to bring something, not knowing what would be provided. I'll have to choose between whatever they have or those shotstops. I brought my friend here some Hoplite lv4 plates as well. Not sure if those are dogshit either but I was price constrained for him and plates>no plates
Oof. But I really wish I had known that before hauling them all the way out here. It was very short notice, I had a budget to work within, and I never saw anything about this ring in reviews. The weight was very attractive, I guess there's a compromise for everything. "If it's too good to be true"
They have some blogspam articles on their website where they're like "some of our plates have cheat rings... and here's why that's a good thing."
Completely moronic.
Thanks anon. I have the hoplite plates as well. So if im understanding this correctly, the main section of the plate is rated but it has a rim that isn't? Or doesn't stop AP rounds? I'll be honest, besides the obvious frag threat I think 7.62 and 5.45 ball is the overwhelming threat here. Definitely something to think about though
Hope your death is quick and relatively painless.
Yeah me too anon. Oh well, everyone dies sooner or later. Often times it's very boring and unexpected, no matter what we do to prevent it. Rather do something cool again than get flattened because a soccer mom pulled out in front of my shitbox.
The plate is literally a 8x10" plate in a 10x12" envelope. Simple as. It has a large border that offers no meaningful protection.
According to NIJ standard.
What are you saying? That the cheat ring was a way to game the NIJ's tests? Or that cheat rings are okay because the NIJ might let them sneak through?
The NIJ should drop the minimum distance from the edge of a plat for a fair shot from two to one and a quarter inches when they come out with 0101.07. It would get rid of all cheat rings over night.
They'd need to relax BFD limits on that last shot, but yeah
Where my Botach chads at?
I had to get plates short notice, and the reviews seemed good. I carry a lot of gear, so the lightest plates was a positive. I just never see them talked about (good or bad). Bakhmut may or may not be a settled issue before I go east (in about 3-4 weeks)
>meanwhile steel plate chads
>plate works every time
>can throw it in closet for decades and will still work
Heh...yikes...
>works every time
At getting plugged by every hunting cartridge in this great nation
Reasonable bait but played out by a decade
>XM193 out of a 20” barrel would like to know your location
> Known to fail against M193 and other lead-core .223, the most common rifle rounds in the country
Even wolf/tula .223 could penetrated AR500
Imagine a nearly 10 pound plate that won't stop Tula .223!
And they call it "armor"
Doesn't even work as an ICW plate.
Interestingly enough, I have some AR500 IIIA steel plates, along with some of the curved surplus Italian III PE plates. Wonder if that'd stop M855 if I used the steel as a strike face? According to Buffman the Italian PE will stop even M855 if it drops under like 2500 fps; think a layer of steel will slow it down/damage it enough upon impact?
okay so it's level IV plate *UNLESS* you get dinged by the WRONG surplus 308 projectile. makes perfect sense
>Company literally called rma
unfortunate
Why do morons buy cheap plates in the first place.
If you're depending your life on it, why would you ever fricking cheap out on plates to save 100-150 bucks and risk it.
I never understood that, just save up a little more or wait a few months if you're a poorgay.
Look, man, I just need to consooom and be like everyone else. I NEED to have them now so I can worry about nods and my drifire camis
Based consooomerism enjoyer.
But frens don't let frens buy RMA.
Yeah pretty expensive to get the full plates, and they are heavy as frick
It's one thing to buy plates for yourself, it's another to buy plates for a full army
If noplates and plainclothes is good enough for successful guerillas it's good enough for me
Allows you to disappear into the cover of being an everyday civilian or a hunter
We live in peace time and law enforcement routinely deletes hooded youths, flannel-clad rednecks, boomers wearing tucked in polos, etc.
In times of unrest there's no such thing as blending-in. ANY able-bodied male will be seen as a potential threat.
RMA must be the funniest name for a company
I bought these a while ago, am I still good?
https://www.hoplitearmor.com/products/two-sapi-plates-triple-curve-level-iv-stand-alone
Yeah, they fine.
>company is literally named Return Merchandise Authorization
kek
Now check this out: https://imgur.com/a/iqmXFQo
Somebody took an "AR500" ceramic plate made by RMA, and hit it with fricking TulAmmo lead-core 7.62x51mm at like 2650 fps.
The second shot went clean through.
Are there any "just as good" homosexuals left? RMA is straight up dogshit.
my uncertified III+ plates are stronger than that lol
Thats cheating lol, those were built to compete with the LTC 28590.
Are those 6x6" or 6x8"?
Crazy that an uncertified III+ side plate is so much better.
6x6
They are from a failed bid to make Tactical Standalones for SOCOM by a Point Blank subsidiary company. If they werent being offloaded by a third party they would be like 2000/plate. Side plates proportionately less
That’s certainly hyperbole but yeah, they’re disproportionately good for the money.
>That’s certainly hyperbole
Considering they couldn't get unit price down to where LTC was for their bid, and the price LTC sold the 28590 at, it is not hyperbole.
I sold mine for 450 for the pair, some poor bastard in Cali or Illinois should snap em up quick.
How close are they to Level IV? A 5 pound RF2 plate isn't that crazy, but a 5 pound plate that'll stop M855A1 at 3300 fps and M80A1 is pretty fricking good.
>How close are they to Level IV?
Supposedly up to M61 AP, so within spitting distance of IV but still shy of the mark.
Blackbeard Protective Products?
Yeah, those pics + report were on /gq/ a month or two ago.
>I have a mistake I need to correct
How much can I put my 1092s up for on eBay?
Yeah, good call. $199/ea should be okay for eBay.
somehow, i'm not convinced of some random information a moron posts on k when in the same statement they recommend hesco that actually does fail tests, regularly
They all fail tests every now and then, it's literally the nature of the game. If you keep buying different brands every other week you'll go crazy. Just buy whatever armor works for your budget and use case. LTC is personally my choice, but if you wanna go with RMA, Hesco, etc. I'm sure you'll be fine unless you are the poor bastard that is extremely unlucky, maybe at that point play the lottery kek.
RMA's problems go far beyond just failing a test. Cheat rings, lying about the materials they use, sending fraudulent overbuilt plates out for YouTube tests, and more. They're the worst in the biz, and now they don't even have a single certified ceramic plate.
True. They have been rather scummy, even up to the present day. Big red flag there.
It's very much just...why
You're not buying steel plates so you've got some sense that there's a minimum price required for something that you're relying on to safe your life
With that context: Why would you ever go with RMA's pigfrick heavy, thick, cheat ringed NIJ failed shit. You can choose something else!
take your meds, do something useful with your life
That said if a company fails a LOT of NIJ FIT tests, then you should be worried.
how are hopelite plates?
Hoplite sells LTC plates, they are as solid as you can buy. AND he is the kind of schizo that hates the UN, good lad. Reddit gets incredibly asswrecked about him. I feel like the psychic emanations from me b***hing about him not selling LTC XSAPI made him start selling the 28601, so I will now attempt to get LTC hyper-glowplates to market.
so whats the new economy commendation?
SAS Hexar Level IV flex plate is extremely good for the price.
I bought a pair of 1155s last week because they were cheap. I don't regret it. The plates are for practice: endurance training while doing a ruck, larping in multi-gun, and testing new powder loads so if something goes wrong I don't get shrapnel in my chest. I'll get some proper level 4s when I want to use them properly.
