Retarded question about winter hiking

So I use my phone for navigation, but I can’t use it unless I take my gloves off since it’s a touchscreen.

It hasn’t been insanely cold yet, but is there a way people deal with this or get around it or something?

Where are you going that 30s-1min of time outside of mittens is going to cause a problem? Are you woman?

First of all it’s winter, -10 Celsius to -40 Celsius depending on the day.

Second of all I do have circulatory issues. And it’s not just one second, the trails split pretty often and I have to check the map.

      >Uses a cellphone to navigate
I look forward to reading your obituary

      What? Why..

maybe im wrong but I think if you do navigate mode with alltrails it vibrates ur phone when ur supposed to make a turn
I just um take my gloves off and try not to have to do that too often.

Ok idk about that… but like… there’s more than one route how is it gonna know which turn I want to take

Also isn’t that just if it’s paid?

yup, just if its paid i think
why do you think they are gonna let you do that for free? do you think it's free to develop and maintain apps?
            >there’s more than one route
I mean I just get the phone out and point it in the direction I'm supposed to be going and see where that is

Have you considered not everyone can afford paying for $1000 apps and some people just want to enjoy the outdoors for free, you dumb triggered coder monkey

damn b***h calm down, just asking where you from.

Anyway, I guess just learn to use your nose or something. Unless you got some kind of nose disability too.

        >What, why?
Because you shouldn't be navigating trails without a male escort. Ever. You can't even navigate without complaining about taking your gloves off to use a touch screen. Please die in an avalanche without ever breeding.

maybe a second latex glove under your big warm glove? i know there are certain gloves that are touchscreen compatible. or ask around for an actual paper map would seem to be the two options that come to mind

Use a real map with a real compass instead like a normal person, with a protection like pic related.
        Buy a phone/gps without a touchpad.
Buy gloves with plastic pieces at the end of the fingers.

Yeah I have gloves that work with touch screen. Really fricking simple dude. Nikwax for smooth leather seems to make it work better.

Yes, you take your gloves off.
You tie your mittens to your jacket or your neck so you don't loose them and can get into them quickly.

this. the point of mittens is that you can take them off for 1-3 minutes to use fingies and then put them on and they warm up in 30 seconds to a minute. the later is the advantage over gloves.

        lobster gloves are also nice

Just wear gloves under your mittens. Most of the time they'll be touchscreen compatible and you should be doing this anyway. You can also print out a map and you won't even have to take the mittens off.

That’s actually a good idea, thanks. I have to figure out a way to attach it though and it should probably be big if I’m wearing something bulky especially mittens so that it doesn’t slip away

just dont use your phone for navigation?

Um.. no. I don’t have a printer and I’m not wasting that many resources

I have a stylus I hang in a key holder that I wear around my neck (attached stylus and key holder together with a rubber band)

another alternative can be to mount it on a retractable key holder than you can mount maybe on your backpack shoulder strap

Especially since you need to keep the phone close to your body in order for it to be usable in freezing conditions

        >using a reusable paper map is wasting recources
