Retard here.

moron here. If you're ordered to withdraw and there's a big enemy force nearby itching to kill you, why would you waste time to loot?

Because high tech war trophies are valuable and may be used by gopnik industries to develop their own modern potato washers.

not necessarily, it is a standart item in a field med kit, and every solider has one on him

Everyone else should own good bandage scissors too. They're a useful addition to my wiring kit.

The same reason they're retreating in the first place, supply lines to Kherson are collapsing. If you can't bring a wasing machine home to Babushka, maybe you can trade it for some MREs or even a magazine with actual bullets from your quartermaster. It's survival looting, moreso than opportunistic looting.

They loot from the day they get there. Russians realised it was bad press, and did try (nominally) to reduce it, but that goes to shit when your entire front is about to collapse soon, as have several others previously.

You could say it's a sort of tactic, the Loot and Scoot.

  9. 1 year ago

only thing that held them back from looting before is that they had to "live" there and wouldn't be allowed a break to take their loot. now both are gone. probably haven't been paid in forever, think "well no consequences now" and "really I DESERVE this for hohols being so UNGRATEFUL about our LIBERATION".

also OP real talk on irl first world defense: average burglary is like 8 minutes long. people can rush into a place grab some valuables and gtfo in a real hurry and most do. light looting doesn't actually really delay them much, but you should also keep that in mind when thinking about your own home defense. don't be the easiest guy on the block. don't spend 5 figures on guns and have a shitty front door.

These are troops from piss-poor eastern shitholes so stuff as basic as bed linen and underwear is mana from heaven for them. Coming home empty handed would be a worse disaster than military defeat, and they don't have the luxury that earlier occupying troops had of taking their leisure time making bespoke crates for washing machines out of ammo boxes so they'll take whatever they can carry.

  13. 1 year ago

Maybe because it's propaganda. Never stop to wonder that? Russia has prevented rout, defeated counterattacks, and launched their own, then captured Ukrainian tanks, missiles, bombs. Then media says Russia lost and looted instead.

If they were of a mind to prioritize staying alive, they wouldn't have invaded Ukraine in the first place.
They invaded because they value washing machines over their own lives. They've been sitting in Ukraine since February for no reason but to keep the Ukrainians from taking back their loot. Now that Ukraine is pushing, they're just taking their loot with them.

Kinda weird when they could've just gotten a work visa, gotten a job in a Western country, and bought a washing machine in far less time than 8 months and without anyone shooting at them.
    Russians are pretty fricking stupid.

You need money if you want to survive. And my biggest guess, Russia is hungry for chips and machine parts. Probably an order to send ther loot to the missle factories and to the truck repair shops on Crimea.

I countermand this argument. If you've a chance to loot while you're ordered to retreat, your chances to loot are increased by number of soldiers following orders.
