Remember when ratnik was first coming out, and everyone believed Russia was actually developing combat exoskeletons and next generation armor?

If it hadn't been for sanctions would they have actually developed the cool shit and rolled it out?

In politics and economics, a Potemkin village (Russian: пoтёмкинcкиe дepeвни, romanized: potyomkinskiye derevni) is a construction (literal or figurative) whose purpose is to provide an external façade to a situation, to make people believe that the situation is better than it is.

Hopefully not detonate the mine you're sweeping for. They are probing at a rather worrying angle though.

westernized russia was not possible. W absolutely killed it though clinton didn't help. after being scorned and "disrespected" putler went down the current path. if HW beat clinton we would have all of europe in NATO and no terrorism.

      it's a literal poky stick
because of the steel tip, it can easily penetrate top soil, and you can feel and distinguish if you are hitting something made out of hard plastic or metal (like mine) or it's just a rock
i must admit, the russians have the technology to make those

It's a probe. Nail on stick you carefully poke soil with the stick and you can feel if there is mine ( or rock) buried.

I did a short stint in a Canadian engineering regiment and we literally poked the ground with our bayonets by hand to clear minefields, stick would have been a noticable improvement

no one believed it, everyone knows everything in Russia is potemkin in nature
    >If it hadn't been for sanctions would they have actually developed the cool shit and rolled it out?
Probably not. Although sanctions exacerbated their economic/technological gap, Ratnik was still basically just playing catchup with the West.
Just take a look at individual items that are part of the kit and directly compare them to early-mid 2000s kit from the US and Europe. They're more or less equal if not worse than their counterparts despite having 5-10 years on them.

No. It was all for embezzlement, though I imagine that the actual ratnik shit was given to the Russian Marines, considering that they're some of the only forces that frick shit up. Everyone else gets to, uh, die lol.

    >If it hadn't been for sanctions would they have actually developed the cool shit and rolled it out?
My brother in Christ, even prior to sanctions Russia was seen on camera with truck tires that shred when driving on paved highways, ERA replaced by cardboard packing inserts, a next-gen wunderwaffle tank that screamed like a banshee and overheated on parade grounds after a decade of postponements, and a carrier-killer flagship that went to Davy Jones' locker after a couple of TB2s distracted the crew. You've seen the franken-MB50s. You've seen the non-flush wood screws in the supposedly low-RCS Su-57. Is there any -- ANY -- doubt in your fricking mind that the answer to your question is an unequivocal "no"? Because if so, I've got some news about the Easter Bunny that's gonna break your little heart.

No, I don't remember that at all. Russia said they were playing with exoskeletons in EOD roles, which they did and tested them in Syria, but nothing ever came of it. It wasnt an actual part of the Ratnik system and was never seen again. It was clear to anybody who isn't microcephalic that Ratnik was all about bringing Russias mess of 80s/90s shit to a standardized early-2000s level. The quality of the manufacture and the consistency of the rollout couldn't really be known, but the goals of Ratnik and its Gost ratings were well publicized. The most obnoxious thing about reformed slavaboos is that they act like everybody was taken in by the same bullshit they were. You really think people would seethe as much as they still do about armatard if everybody believed what he was posting?
    >If it hadn't been for sanctions would they have actually developed the cool shit and rolled it out?
No. Russia has always struggled with complex electronics. The best soviet night vision for example was all made in satellite states and that continued after the breakup, polish and czech NSPUs are supposed to be the highest quality, lithuanian shit went on to become pulsar, estonia has bering optics, etc. Russian night vision was only really popular in the 90s because it was cheap. Its not a matter of access to materials, its lack of institutional skill and experience. All your technically-minded russians migrate to the US and their absence shows.
