If it was a hit to the turret then good chance the turret would have still been there with most of the crew being mushed, but because it was a pen in the lower part of the upper front plate the carousel was hit directly sending the turret to lower orbit.

Actually retarded. Go look at the armor setup on a T-80 and tell me what is going to stop the dart. The armor behind there is adequate against darts after ERA has taken effect, but not before. Also that hit is square on the edge of the ERA, it should still detonate regardless, even if it didn't have much of an effect due to lack of plate to feed. The explosive element is still supposed to be under there unless there's no explosives at the edges of the element, in which case that's a pretty fucking big oversight.

It's authentic, not realistic. In War Thunder the whole brick is modelled as a one piece when round is impacting. But on the photo you can clearly see it hit the bottom of the brick, basically going through it.

making steel with a certain quality is not that easy even today. variation in quality can be very high even in steel coming from the same plant. so i can imagine penetration protection depth is less a uniform technical constant and more a statistical probability number
