If you paid attention in math class you might understand what is going on here. The facts are that black people in this country commit crime at a disproportionate rate and gun ownership is not correlated with higher crime. In the other post you made claiming that "red" states have higher crime all of those states are in the south, where there is a higher percentage of black people to other ethnic groups, or have very low populations, making their rates for everything very sensitive. Montana, Wyoming, and Alaska all have populations below 1M so any pertubation will have a significant impact on the rate. If a community of 10 people go 99 years with zero murders then have a single year with 1 murder, they will have a murder rate of 100 per 100,000 over that century. 100 people aren't being murdered each year, and it's not a violent community, it's just very small.

Let's be honest, the real problem was that the cops were 67-117 yards away and couldn't even get rounds on target. Both robbers would have went down quite quickly if the cops could actually get rounds on target even if they couldn't penetrate the robber's armor. No armor is going to save you if you're standing out in the open taking fire from someone who can at least reliably put shots somewhere on your body.

The North Hollywood shootout was a big deal for two main reasons: It happened in Hollywood and was televised live as it happened nationwide, and it was only a year removed from the '92 LA Riots - which were also televised nationally. So a lot of people who never had to think about what the Police had to face at the time got front row seat to the "What Happens When you Give an Immigrant and a Retard a Gun" show. A show that had been playing a lot more in larger metropolitan areas for over a decade but no one cared about. After the Hollywood Shootout and seeing the National Guard have to be called in because they had the firepower to deal with the '92 riots, people had to think about how cops do their jobs more and the tools that they are given to accomplish that compared to what a criminal could use with less effort.
Further compounding this was Police forces in the Southern border states were starting to run into serious issues in combating drug traffickers who had essentially an unlimited budget and had no rules of engagement. In most occasions unless the SWAT guys or a SWAT equivalent were the ones engaging a cartel, the average Sherrif or State Trooper would be outgunned and out matched. The Federal government was not immune to this either mind you. Compare the resources of the DEA in 1980 who were stopping boats occasionally and performing raids with local departments, to 1995 when they were hunting Escobar using AWACs and satellites.
Just like the Military, domestic law enforcement needed to meet or exceed their opposition and the US already had the world's greatest industrial complex so why not ask it to lend its resources to the Homefront.

On December 29, 1890 the US Army 7th Cav tracked down a group of a little over 300 hungry Lakota at Wounded Knee. The soldiers confiscated all of the rifles the Lakota had, then started shooting into the camp. By the end of the "battle" over 300 innocent Lakota were dead, murdered by agents of the state.

When I was a cop (93-03) I was psyched I got selected to be one of the two guys on my squad with a shotgun. Plain Jane 14” 870, wood furniture, bead sight. I remember being on post during the DC sniper and thinking how nice a rifle would be if I’m watching a wood line at 100M+. When I went to a fed agency, we still only had shotguns and select guys who had MP5’s.
