SFAR stands for “shoot far” because of the 308 NATO chambering. This was ruger’s leap into the modern world of advanced combat arms. Notice the superior lightweight of it compared to its primary competitor, the Dragunov. This weapon competited against SIG (nig sauer lol) and lost sue to corruption and israeli scandals. Forgotten Ian does a good video on this weapon but I don’t recommend him on principle anymore because he both hates the Warrior IFV Program and is a gun grabber

actually it stands for "special forces assault rifle" but it lost because it was too powerful for most people. a decorated 5-star navy seal tried to fire this gun during the function test and due to the insane concussive force of the blast, the stock slammed into his chest and popped his heart like a water balloon.

Almost correct as usual boys. It actually stands for 'stay far' to reassure the operator they are a safe distance away from other attackers due to the superior range and ballistics of 380 Winchester compared to any other munition in its class. The reason that general popped his heart is he forgot to use the tactical shoulder thingy that goes back to properly brace himself. Thankfully as we all know, navy seals contain multiple redundant organs and last I heard he left the military to pursue a career in the balloon industry.

Its supposedly bretty good, a guy in arg has one thats he modded out to be ultralight and he likes it. The plastic castle nut is pretty shitty though. The only model comparable for lightness is a gucci vseven at 2.5x the cost. I think SCARs are good too but a bit heavier. All depends what you want.

if somebody wanted to make a lightweight large frame AR on a budget what would you recommend?
I've been looking at PSA's sabre lowers (the one with the A1 stock) and probably a custom barrel

      >The plastic castle nut
      What? It is plastic seriously?
What's the tube diameter, same as AR-15 specs or is it larger AR10/SR25 type?

The castle nut is not plastic, but the plate under it is so you can't stake it. My buddy has one and it's pretty cool but we had to go through and torque/loctite damn near every screw on the gun.

Ruger never really fails to deliver.
my particular ar556 (i know a dpms patterned ar10 is a diffetent beast) has done 1.25 moa with questionable match ammo 77s with a sig 5 and a 3x mag, prone supported on a blown out truck tire.

    If I wasn't already 60% through a psa ar-10 build (just need barrel/gas, rail/guard and optic) I would've bought one
As for caliber, between 308 243 and 270 at real hunting distances they're all practically the same plus or minus 5%

what's your choice for caliber? I'm looking at 7mm-08

I prefer the M&P10 and just replacing the rail
Its got the fully ambi features and a non gay magwell and also a really nice 5r barrel
And its like 900 to 1200 bucks

People really like them for how light they are and for part compatability with AR15's. However, the gas blocks are finnicky either between leaking gas, coming loose, or the adjuster being too coarse.

What I remember reading was there even a callback of sort due to this issue?

NTA but my understanding from browsing forums was that they had QC issues in their early production that have apparently been ironed out.

I've been thinking about getting one for awhile now. My AR in .556 kills pigs but it doesnt drop them like I would like it to. Plus I could deer hunt with it if I wanted to and use it for home defense if I had too.

I was just out shooting mine today actually. I like it a lot. I had a 5-25 on it for a while but it really doesn't benefit from having that much zoom. I have a 2.5-15 now and it's perfect. Makes for a nice battle rifle. Highly recommend a foregrip and an H2 buffer. SFAR is "small frame autoloading rifle" by the way they think they're being funny I guess.
