The US overreaction in the '70s, which brought us the F-15 and F-16, affectively established America's air dominance over the world, which combined with our carriers and worldwide air bases, made America the world's most powerful military entity. So yeah, lesson learned, moron.

    >heavily inferior
That’s not what happened. They found out that the mig-25 was a good interceptor for defending the vast soviet airspace rather than a super duper fighter as they originally thought

      >was a good interceptor
      That's not what happened.
They found out the mig-25 was a piece of shit interceptor, with shitty jammable pulse radar, trash reliability gas guzzling engines and an ultraheavy frame that could exceed 4gs.
Then everybody laughed when they realised the F-14 would whoop it's ass, even in the interceptor role.

Motherfricker. I had no idea he died in September. Now I'm sad. I read his book as a kid and would have called him an absolute legend if I were a britbong. He was an American trapped in a Russian's body. Have a drunk bar interview: http://www.chrisdixonreports.com/margaritaville/oshkosh/folioentry7.html

    says who, reddit?
Mig-25 was capable of downing the most advanced american plane at the time, SR-71 Blackbird, had Russia chosen to do so.

    It’s the perpetual cycle, Anon
    >dictator announces new, next generation piece of equipment, exaggerating its capabilities to seem tough and strong
    >US media picks it up and makes it a major news story, because fear mongering drives up the viewership
    >Congress awards a bunch of money for R&D to different arms companies because it boosts the economy in their districts
    >Arms company makes new, even better weapon and gets the US to buy it in bulk
The dictator looks strong for a bit, the US gets a new, even better weapon, and a bunch of Americans make a lot of money, everybody wins- so no, whether or not they “learn”, they certainly won’t stop
