Consider yourself lucky anon. I was born into an actual family and watched as everyone drifted apart.

Best part is watching everyone deny it as it happens. Now I just don't care for their narcissism. They make it seem like it's an effort for them to show up, and it's honour for everyone else when they decide to grace each other with their presence. My parents keep suggesting that I'm not involved enough despite efforts. My family is atomized by choice and have even suggested reducing the importance of holiday time.
I have one family member that I really care to spend time with, and he's keeping me involved in their disinterested lives. When he passes, I'm gone too.

Not dying of fricking stroke or heart disease so he can actually be there for them instead of killing a 12 pack of buds each night. The most important tool you have is yourself.

I've always wondered how do these bunkers manage CO2 and oxygen?

They all have a vent to the outside. Its an inherent flaw that makes confrontations with outsiders lead to their death.

I want one of those as a storm shelter. In a SHTF senario, some cunning butthole would just find the air vent and block it.

If I recall correctly, these Atlas survival shelters have a pretty sophisticated air filtration unit that can't be blocked externally. Don't quote me on the second part though, I might be wrong.

Systems like that would be way out of reach for the average joe and would STILL eventually run out of filters.

I think their entry models start at $100k and their more premium models are around $500k. Sure, not cheap, but I think actually pretty reasonably priced for something that might keep you alive in a serious doomsday scenario.
Here is their website and bunker features if you are interested:

How long do they plan to spend in the bunker? I can't see the point. If it went to shit so badly you'd need to spend years in a bunker I don't think you'd last very long when you had to come out. You would be clueless and at a huge disadvantage.

I think the mentality you would need going into these bunkers is that you are writing off the outside world and intending to live the remainder of your life in peace. Not as a headquarters for world building.

Probably for as long as you stockpiled food. I feel after a nuclear attack, you'd probably want to wait at least a year before leaving to the heavily irradiated and burnt surface.

            >wait at least a year before leaving to the heavily irradiated and burnt surface.
I don't think most people have the mental stamina to sit in a one or two room bunker for a year.

most of the radiation is gone unironically by two weeks, unless its a nuke salted with cobalt 60, then you could have a half life of over a century

            >nuclear attack
Wait time is more like a few weeks. Radiation fallout is the boogeyman meant to keep everyone terrorized and in check. Some people don't even think our nukes would work.

I don't know. Little Boy and Fat Man looked pretty devastating and those were tiny 15kt and 21kt respectively pay loads. Also the radiation caused deaths decades after the event.

                Anonymous

Look at Japan, why was there no fallout afterwards (it was firebombed). I don't want to get into it now but I dont believe nukes are real.

                >why was there no fallout
Probably because they were such light pay loads and only used uranium/plutonium which break down very quickly.
                >(it was firebombed)
I don't think it was. Explain the blast shadows and uniform destruction of pretty much all structures in a 1 mile radius. They also detonated both boms very far above ground, so residual radiation was almost none compared to atmospheric radiation. That said, I think nukes today (and in the second half of the 20th century) were/are gay fearmongering tools due to MAD.

Even if the half life of Uranium is much, much longer on paper, those old A bombs were extremely inefficient. The amount of radiation they put out is literally negligible if you compare it to modern hydrogen/fusion bombs.

Only groundbursts are alleged to produce fallout, and those were airbursts.

No, I dont worry about nukes.
Solar events and associated activity is something to think about though. There is danger of an earthquake after a micro nova or coronal mass ejection (can’t remember which) along with a special type of lightning where you’d not want to be around steel. Ben at SO mentioned needing only a few inches of dirt to block out radiation from the sun. A pole shift would likely make your bunker a tomb as well.

No, that's even worse because there will be pirates and also keep a ship in shape is hard during normalish times, and in a doomsday scenario, you won't be able to dock or find the parts you need.

Black person, if the planet is turned into a nuclear winter due to nuclear war, there is nothing I would want more than to be dead.
