I bought a holosun 507k x2 for over 300 bucks, I needed to pay an additional $50 for a mounting adapter plate which is dumb but whatever.
>begin shooting and notice I'm not used to finding the dot, no big deal I can just train to this
>after 100 rounds my shots are starting to go all over the place, wtf?
>check the sight and notice it has come loose even though I torqued it to spec
>decide to over torque things a bit which seems to clear up the issue, another few hundred rounds passes with no problems
>the advertised battery life is long enough that I feel fine with the sight turned on 24/7
>problem is the brightness level for this is too low for all situations (outdoors during the day) so I need to make it a bit brighter
>fast forward 2 months and I take it to the range, don't even bother to check the reticle before leaving
>the battery is DEAD
>can't use the factory iron sights because they're too low
>realize I need to buy stupid suppressor height sights as a backup, another $100
>OH and you need the right tool to replace your sights another $50
>now the ridiculously small view pane is cluttered up even more by these suppressor sights
>the sight also digs in to my body making IWB carry even more uncomfortable
>wait why am I carrying this gun again? Short distance defensive engagements? Why do I even need a red dot?
>realize I got roped in to this dumb meme by gun influencers and dropped $500 for nothing and now have a less reliable, less comfortable, more expensive system for no fucking reason.
Fuck red dots on micro pistols
skill issue
I blew $400 getting my slide milled, buying the dot and I think its only good for full size or night vision
You should have purchased $400 in ammo and practice more.
who says you cant do both? you probably dont do either.
All I got from that story is that you're a moron
same
Literally all skill issues. And lolling at your struggling with such basic shit.
Shoot more than 100 rounds and post again about it in a year.
>DUDE just constantly adjust your brightness whenever you enter/exit a building
>DUDE just change the battery every month
>you TOTALLY need a red dot on your p365 so you can engage mass shooters at 40 yards like in that mall food court and then get ventilated by the responding LEOs afterwards!
>autobrightness
>battery lasts 5000 hours
>he thinks any defense use is high probability
skill issue
the 507k doesn't have auto brightness
You'd be a lot happier if you didn't have arguments in your head
give me the shovel anon.
>ur not allowed to prepare for mass shootings, thats a larp!
a compact pistol with a red dot can reliably hit targets at 50+ meters. if im going through the effort to carry a gun it should be useful against any threat.
>a compact pistol with a red dot can reliably hit targets at 50+ meters.<
That’s swell.
Have you ever been INSIDE a courtroom? They’re a ot smaller than what you see on TV.
So, imagine yourself on the witness stand in front of a jury of bored Karens and Perpetually Indignant Black women, and you’re being questioned by an ambitious Joo assistant DA.
You shot the YootJogger at 50 meters’ distance. This was the facts established by the ForensicsJoo.
The Prosecutor walks to the doors of the courtroom, blocks them open, and walks all the way to the end of the hallway standing by the elevators about maybe 100’ away, (30 meters for metrically minded), and then he hollers at you if you expect anyone to believe that YOU felt in danger of immediate death or seriously bodily injury from someone even further away than he is from you at that very moment.
You’re going to get a Full Scholarship to the State Forcible Sodomy Academy and Gender Function Realignmnet Laboratory if your dead perp wasn’t toting a shoulder weapon, old chap.
> Counterpoint, your honor
A worthy riposte, but I don’t know of many manslaughter or homicide cases that do field trips.
The prosecutor tags you with your marksmanship skills in the courtroom,(building…parking lot), with the jury, and you’re trying to climb your way out of an abandoned oil well without using your hands, amigo.
You MIGHT manage it, but good luck.
>I don’t know of many manslaughter or homicide cases that do field trips.
OJ
This is bait boomerposting and it’s pretty good.
Your essay falls apart if the target is armed.
Which isnt much of an if considering the situation youre kvetching about is a would-be mass shooter.
I’ll keep that in mind if I’m ever in a mass shooting situation.
A dope-crazed Black junkie intent on taking my life with his knife or taking my wheels is a far more likely scenario in MY humdrum little life.
Your Mileage May Vary.
what the fuck are you saying you dork? you type like you think your post is gonna get screencapped.
It was perfectly clear to me.
Why are you so anal about people that can write?
Did your father and your uncles touch you inappropriately when you were a child?
Is that why you're so bitter and bitchy?
>DUDE just change the battery every month
The battery life is in the thousands of hours. You’re just an idiot.
>you TOTALLY need a red dot on your p365 so you can engage mass shooters at 40 yards like in that mall food court
Yes red dots do help with long shots
>and then get ventilated by the responding LEOs afterwards!
You mean what didn’t happen in the example you gave? Show me two occasions of this ever happening.
You’re just stupid. I’m sorry but that’s terminal.
>notice it has come loose
the manual tells you to use loctite
>$50 on a sight replacer
overpaid a bit
just buy a pistol with tall sights, or just don't run the sights
>battery life died after 2 months
That's odd actually, what battery did you use? If a reputable brand, try contacting holosun, because it should be way longer then 2 months
>>>wait why am I carrying this gun again? Short distance defensive engagements? Why do I even need a red dot?
I'm gonna be honest, if you're preparing for the edge scenario of having to use it to start, I don't see why you'd prepare for other edge scenarios, especially when there's not a lot of downside
If you're smart, you'd also carry things that are more likely to be needed, boo boo kit (probably in a bag), IFAK, USB stick, charging cable, water, a snack, etc.
You don't really need to adjust brightness, but if you really want to, the SCS has good reviews, I don't have direct experience with it so I can't recommend it fully
>ventilated by responding LEOs
ah yes the risk of LEO is far lower then the risk of active shooters. Has this happened more then once?
>small pistol, long range? Why?
I mean there's this example
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenwood_Park_Mall_shooting
ah you have the 32 moa ring (assuming you're op), that makes more sense
well, batteries are like $3 each, just change it every once in a while
Christ
>I'm not even a red dot pistol guy
we can tell
The other example of the good guy getting ventilated by the responding officers happened to Tony Arambula down here in Phoenix. The 911 recording caught the whole thing. It caught the cops shooting him, and then the cops talking about how badly they fucked up and how they were going to spin it for the report.
Nothing ever happened to the incompetent LE, as is tradition.
if cops were held as accountable as civis, no one would want to be cops. theyre a flawed solution to crime but you cant really do much better till robot cops
>robot cops prefer joggers
I don't really understand the use case here.
small pistol, close range - put front sight over target and shoot.
small pistol, long range? Why?
Large pistol, short range - put front sight over target and shoot.
Large pistol, long range - align sights, shoot
Where exactly does the dot fit in? Are you hunting with your G26? You are the modern day equivalent of a Fudd benchresting a scoped .357 - you are the neoFudd™
Faster target acquisition, better sight picture, more precise aiming, works day or night equally well. There are no actual downsides unless you’re a retard like OP.
Except you introduce a point of failure and put your life in the hands of a chink optic.
if your optic fails, just use your iron sights
i don't see the problem
Talking points from 20 years ago are getting stale
What are co-witnessed iron sights Alex?
Don’t knock it until you try it. They take getting used to but you can shoot faster, more accurately, and switch between targets easier for 10+ yard shooting.
>buys Holosun
>has issues
>blames all red dos
>Mounting plate/issues
>Battery issues
>300+ USD for a 507K
So much of this is shit.
Sounds like you have a Glock and thus have a trash mounting system (MOS), a system prone to breaking and coming loose and losing zero.
The 407/507K sights have auto-off and on and don't die that fast, and even if you have the sight on max brightness for some reason, just set a schedule to change the battery out.
You should present the pistol by raising it to eye level. Use your irons as the reference point and raise it only to see the dot; your rear sight, even when blocked, will let you know where the dot is.
You should have also gone with the 407K. The 6MOA dot is much better on a CCW,
I am WAY faster at acquiring targets with the 32 MOA ring enabled, and unfortunately this is the reason why the battery life is shit because the advertised battery life is with the tiny ass 2 moa dot which is fucking awful for a CCW pistol and makes me slower than just using irons. And the fact you can’t auto adjust brightness on the 507k is SHIT so you have to turn up brightness up even more which further kills battery life.
There’s just no need to even have pistol red dots for up close engagements anyway, it’s mainly a gimmick.
Not OP. My 407k went through like 3 batteries in a year before I just sent it back to Holosun. The advertised battery life is a lie.
I never had that issue; I've been running the same battery(Amazon brand) for 6+ months with the sight on slightly higher than the medium setting. I plan to replace it in a few months.
I have heard if you keep the gun in a car, that can trip the auto-on. The auto-on is really sensitive.
It was in dresser almost it's whole life. After the first one died, I tried a Panasonic and then an Energizer. Identical results.
Damn, that sucks, did Holosun take care of it?
Do you have it on max brightness? I don’t believe you
It was on the lower to mid level. The higher brightness is impossible to look through when it's dark.
Lol, guntubers are working tirelessly to sell you a bunch of useless shit, and they are paid by a powerful cartell of gun manufacturers.
Make sure to buy new grips for your gun too. And a light. Have your slide professionally milled, and buy a new recoil spring to compensate for it. Then ofcourse, a new coat of cerakote, or why not PVD?
Congratulations! You little Conceal Carry of Theseus now costs 4x the original price, probably perform worse unless everything was done by an absolute pro, and it looks like if John Wick fucked a PPK.
Consoom our Gun Slop, you fucking pay pig.
cool thread bump for your made up bullshit story OP, now go get a life
dotfags seething itt
Nice cope OP
Congratulations, you've discovered the truth, irons are the best for CCW.
the stupid micro dots are so small that you'd be minute of man anyways by the time you get the dot within your sight picture. they're great on a full sized handgun but fuck red dots on micro pistols or subcompacts
Yeah I have a 507C on my G19 and it’s fine, probably will keep it.
Real G's don't even need sights. They actually use their shit. Just check tiktok.
Pretty simple. Just don't leave it on 24/7, and practice quickly flipping it on when you draw. Also shoot more than 100rds. I'm not even a red dot pistol guy and I can agree that you're a whiny idiot
Yeah and don’t carry a round in the chamber either, just rack the slide and press the 3mm wide button on the optic when some crackhead is charging you 5 feet away with a knife
please stop treating crackheads like dropbears
>Long-winded, blatantly fake story told in an angry tone using a stock photo
many such cases
Yeah I don’t think you should have an optic or a flashlight on a car pistol. Keep it simple.
Weird that you're so resistant to putting in the time& effort to practice in order to improve your skills, especially with something as important as a personal defense. Are you poor? Can you not afford the ammo and range time? You seem poor
You seem upset that I don’t need a red dot
Skill issue
damn sounds like you suck ass at shooting
I’ll never understand why anyone would buy a holosun for that much money. Holosun makes optics that are like 500 bucks now and it baffles me. The list of battle proven optics you can get for that kind of money ain’t short.
I have a holosun I picked up for 200 bucks a long time ago and it was beaten to death by my model 40 glock and no longer holds zero on handguns. Lasted probably 200 rounds.
Carrying with a delta point pro and a tlr1 hl has completely changed handgun shooting for me. Just keep the dot on daylight brightness and if you are indoors or it’s night just turn on your light. I’m way faster now and far more confident and skilled with a dot than I ever was with irons and Iv been shooting handguns for ages.
TLDR:
Skill issue. Get good.
Why use a quality optic when you can rely on your iron sights once your chink optic fails?
because aiming with irons is much harder and objectively less accurate.
So you dropped money on stuff you hadn't even bothered to try before buying and you are here bitching about it now? Roped in by influencers? You are a fucking retard.
Imagine seeing something shilled on instagram, dropping 500 bucks on it with no real world experience of the thing and then posting on /k/ when it turns out you don’t know what your doing.
It’s gonna be embarrassing
No it’s everyone else’s fault but his. He’s the victim here
>check the sight and notice it has come loose even though I torqued it to spec
Were you actually retarded to the point you didn't use loctite on fucking optic mount screws? You shouldn't even have to be told to do that, jfc.
>the battery is DEAD
You're either lying or you bought the most dogshit batteries possible, I hate Holoshit but even I can't deny that their battery life is absolutely within industry expectations and two months isn't what they have.
>>can't use the factory iron sights because they're too low
Then get suppressor height sights, retard. You didn't notice in two months that you couldn't use the stock ones?
>OH and you need the right tool to replace your sights another $50
Buy a fucking nylon punch for $1 and use a hammer.
>now the ridiculously small view pane is cluttered up even more by these suppressor sights
Holy shit anon you use a dot with BOTH EYES OPEN, that's one of the biggest advantages they offer for fuck's sake.
I'm not going any farther into your screed, you're just a fucking idiot.
>you use a dot with BOTH EYES OPEN
You're first mistake was assuming OP actually shoots. The second mistake was replying to obvious bait.
+1 for red dots on CCWs are a fucking meme
>wait why am I carrying this gun again? Short distance defensive engagements? Why do I even need a red dot?<
You didn’t ask yourself this at the outset and keep it firmly in your mind during this entire sad odyssey of Expensive Fail?
You got chumped by the GunJoo.
You could be rocking a Smitty J frame or a Dick Special or a Ruger in a strack comfy holster and be all set for the vast majority of trouble.
Instead you have a bunch of expensive useless junk.
Sucks to be YOU.
That sounds like a YOU problem. In this case YOU being retarded and not doing proper research before adopting a micro red dot. Maybe go to /b/, you're literally too stupid to post here, there's a minimum IQ requirement of 95 points to post on this here board.
You bought the red dot before looking into all the shit you'd need to mount it or change to use it? Embarassing tbqh.
They did eventually send it back, although the only evidence they did something was that there was a new battery. Guess I'll find out in a month or two lol.
Needs red dot sights to shoot someone in stomach from 20 feet away!
Damn that's crazy you spend how much for a dot sight.
I have a four year old R5 still on it's factory battery, know why? It shuts itself off.
Spent how much and it can't even shut itself off?
Damn that's crazy.
