Realistically how effective is .357 out of a rifle? I live in a recently cucked cuck state and am have been thinking about picking up something that isn’t a spooky scary assault rifle now that I can’t buy those and I’ve always been interested in using my 9mm suppressor on a .357/.38 rifle. Would a lever action/bolt action .357 with or without a suppressor be a decent substitute for an AR in a cuck state or would something still manually operated but in a rifle caliber be better?
I’ve got plenty of semi auto rifles that I continue to shoot regularly and enjoy, but I just want something that will fill a similar role without raising as many eyebrows.
357 magnum out of a 20 inch barrel is very similar in terms of ballistics to 762x39

you get some pretty damn good ballistics out of a 357 rifle. a 5.56 bolty is going to have better velocity but a levergun is cooler and faster to manipulate. I haven't shot a suppressed one personally but most people seem to love suppressed lever actions.
I love my suppressed .357 lever gun. I dont care about the ballistics its about the novelty of being able to both shoot whisper quiet suppressed .38 specials and lightning hot .357 mags with a brake. Don't get this cause you wanna chase numbers, get it to larp as a space cowboy.
>38 specials are just barely above the speed of sound out of a rifle barrel
how quiet do they end up being? do you need earpro?
>how quiet are they
No one can tell you, microphones never do it justice, you have to hear it IRL
>do you need earpro
No
.38 special is actually still subsonic from my 16" barrel. I dont need earpro at all not even for the first round crack. The sound of the firing pin hitting the primer is louder than the explosion.
I'd post a video but im a gay
>do you need earpro?
Nope, they make a "ka-pow" noise not a high pitched crack, if you've ever shot a 32-20 or a black powder rifle you know the sound.
Isn't that just an M1 carbine.
Seeing as guns are just toys, you can buy whatever you want.
How does a 110gr at 2500fps sound?
A 125gr at 2250fps?
158gr at 2100fps?
180gr at 1850fps?
>How does a 110gr at 2500fps sound?
>A 125gr at 2250fps?
>158gr at 2100fps?
>180gr at 1850fps?
I'm dubious about all of these from .357 magnum. I just don't think it has the case capacity. what loading gets a 180 grain bullet to 1850fps from any barrel length from .357mag?
Buffalo Bore does it on the regular out of an 18.5 inch Marlin. They load to the old spec before S&W has it lowered.
I'd also recommend running an 1892.
>Buffalo Bore does it on the regular out of an 18.5 inch Marlin
is this what the box says, or what the chronograph says?
It's their chronograph. They tell you what a particular load did out of their gun.
>158gr at 2100fps?
>180gr at 1850fps?
Holy shit, anon. I hope you aren't shooting a toggle link action. My loading manual tops H110 out at 16/13gr respectively, but I wager you're well past that.
357 out of a pistol is wasted ammo imo
out of a rifle its a completely different animal
SWS does integrally suppressed barrels for ruger 77s if you want mondo quiet
jesus christ that is rad
Also, the 110gr at 2500fps is from Speer's data.
Hornady's data is seldom adventurous.

With common 158gr loads it's in between the original 150gr and 170gr 30-30 loads, though slightly less potent than current 30-30 loads. Not something you want to get hit by. Don't waste your time with anything lighter than 158gr, those bullets will be leaving the barrel much faster than they were designed to function at, the 158gr bullets are too but with their added mass they can blow up and still have enough of a core to penetrate deeply.
I agree with this, but will say that the lighter bullets are still effective for coyotes and things you don't intend to eat.
