You are gonna want some metal blades brother step it up a notch.

But honestly those wood sticks can be deadly in a modern war if planted into a hidden tiger pit trap like how the Viet Cong did in the 60s, they covered the spikes in shit so the infection guaranteed a painful death, even if you survived the fall and impalement.

They used em for tigers just adapted them for humans and it worked really well, pretty terrifying honestly. I just wanna bag a hog with a survival spear cause I think they are neat.

They called them punji sticks. They cost zero dollars to make and took warriors from the greatest military in history. There is another version where it pivots in the middle and you fall down like a trap door. Pretty brutal, imagine this could happen to you at any moment, walking through the jungle.

No, not how the tards replying to you are describing it. There's a lot of fudd/moronlore surrounding steel shanks in boots.

Steel shanks in boots add support. They're not very large. They are not for protecting you from nails, punji pits, or other dumb shit. They stand zero chance of helping with that, even though a lot of people think that's what they're there for. It's a very small strip of steel that maintains the shape of the arch. That's it.

Some boots do have a kevlar or steel layer for protecting against punctures. That's not very common. US jungle boots had a steel shank, not a puncture resistant plate.

              Anonymous

There are boots made for puncture resistance that have full steel plates. You can even get Chinesium boots as such for less than $100.
Technically you can take any boot, (heat it first) rip the entire sole off (have to cut the stitching for the welt too if it is welted), put in your own 2-3mm plate, and glue it all back together, if you really wanted to.
Shanks are just a thing to stabilize the gap between the heel and ball of the foot areas. Not all shanks are metal, anyways (the majority are usually a leather piece or a >60 shore A hardness rubber)
Again, yes there are boots with a (thin) full plate.
And to that, I'm 100% sure even a thin steel plate is enough for bamboo punjabs, but the problem with punjab traps is you are exceedingly unlikely to land on two sticks with your feet, you're going to get gored in multiple spots when you fall.
It's why they space the spikes ~12-18 inches apart.

Anon, steel shanks are a thing as well but it takes like 5 seconds of searching about jungle boots to find the metal plate tidbit. https://youtu.be/EXbyACeulIE?t=414

Crazy, guess I was misinformed and it's just the shit-tier modern ones that have a shank and not a steel plate.

See about 8:13. There's a plate as well as a shank in this boot, though it's a pretty thin shank (maybe 1.5mm?) amd the plate even thinner. Now, I'm not really aware of any boots you can buy now that have a steel plate for puncture resistance like anon mentioned but I don't exactly walk in to Construction-Workers-Я-US and try on the boots. Never really understood the need for a stiff ass shank. I really want a modern production jungle boot (with shank and plate) for hunting, though. Sometimes my winter boots are too warm and my desert boots not waterproof enough. Jungle boots pump the water out as you walk and have puncture resistance. Insanely smart design; wish I could find a decent new production pair for what I find desert boots for.

Most boots don't have a full plate because it is unnecessary and adds too much weight.

See about 8:13. There's a plate as well as a shank in this boot, though it's a pretty thin shank (maybe 1.5mm?) amd the plate even thinner. Proper shanks can turn a lousy boot that ruins your feet into a very comfortable one.

always remember: while it might be tempting to sharpen the thinner end of the stick at the top, the part near the root is harder and will make a better point. you can also char the point in fire to make it even harder

its much easier to do and you dont actually want the point to be perfectly centered for some random stick you picked up since the center is weak. pith is not a good point
