QTDDTOT - Euro Shotgun Edition

I just got my Beretta 1301 in, and it's my first semi-auto shotgun. I'm just learning now that apparently, it's common for yuropoid semi-autos to not cycle a new round into the chamber when you manually run the charging handle. This is cool for single-loading shells with rounds still in the tube, but what's the protocol here if I have a light primer strike or something like that? How do you clear a malfunction if the gun won't pick up a new round?

    >No sgg thread yet and am interested if anyone has any experience with shotguns that im gunning for.
shotguns that interest me: I want a lightweight (under 6.6 lbs which is 3kg shotgun ) which is as short as possible with interchangable chokes , preferably in sub 12 gauge calibers because ammo weighs less and i can pack more water and tea and shit. I hunt in a very mountanious terrain with a shit ton of bushes, brush, stubby /, short,/ smoll, treeswith temperature inversion (temp can vary from freezing my balls off to scorching hot from morning till noon, so packing extra clothes and a way to strap them on when it gets hot is must, btw )and carrying a long , standard weight 12 gauge is not pleasurable at all , flat fields? No problems , but climbing a fairly steep mountain with loose rocks and roots, and vegetation tripping you the entire way, and bushes getting caught on everything from straps, to belts, to slings , barrels, hats, shoelaces , pockets is miserable with a normally sized shotgun and a bunch of 12 gauge ammo (hunting woodcocks mostly) .
1st>Tristar 410 semi /aka armsan since armsan makes tristar semishotties(i can not get a remington 1100),
2nd a 410 pump will also be sufficient (cant get a mossberg or remington and bps is a bit heavy for a 410, and is too long for where i hunt )
Options are armsan or hatsan 410 pump or
Is franchy affinity 20 gauge any good
Also browning a5 seems light enough but it seems too long .
Benelli ultralight 28 uses unobtanium ammo but a 20 g might be ok
    I would prefer a 410
Does anyone have any experience with any of those?

Yes. You cut tiny little slits and insert the screws, the rubber closes up afterwards and you can't see the holes. There are a couple good videos up on Youtube by Larry Potterfield / Midway USA.

the action to open the tube to feed a new shell is caused by you pulling the trigger. if you pull the trigger and nothing happens, just manually charge the gun and it should spit out the malf'd shell and feed the new one.

Can you install a muzzle device such as a break or blast can on a mini 14 ranch rifle?
Also, is it worth getting an accustrut on the new models?

      Resident Wumbologist

If it's a Tactical model it has barrel threading so yes. If a regular Ranch, no but it's possible to have the barrel cut and threaded with some gunsmithing although it involves setting the front sight back. There are pin on muzzle devices as well but they're typically for the old thin barrel models.
As far as accu strut, it's really not necessary on new models because the design, tooling and quality have improved. It's useful on old models.

They do help. Install one and see if it's sufficient. It's not like they are exorbitantly expensive.

This is a Marlin .22 trigger. Not my pic but I have the same gun. On mine, with the bolt installed and cocked, the sear alone cannot hold the striker back. The front of the sear is held up by the notch on the front of the trigger. The back of the trigger looks like it's designed to push up on the back of the sear, but the striker has already fallen before the trigger travels this far. Is this how it's supposed to work? Or is there something wrong with my striker and sear engagement?

no. get pepper spray instead. there are plenty of instances where its a good idea to pepper spray someone but could be legally questionable to shoot them. Stun guns like that are often very ineffective at delivering enough pain to deter someone, while also needing you to be in contact distance with that person. Also pom canisters are like 15 bucks

The pulling the trigger will also drop a new round onto the lifter, regardless if the round fires.

So simply racking the bolt will extract the faulty round and insert the new.

The benefit of this sytem is that it makes the shotgun very easy to make safe and keep the chamber empty.

What does PrepHole recommend for a budget anon?
    A shotgun?

      Anonymous

How budget is budget? You can get a used Mossberg 500 for like $300 or $400. Will be heavy for backpacking, but just fine for normal camping. Works for home defence just fine as well. Has the ability to shoot a multitude of ammo including slugs for bear making it versatile.

If you plan on carrying in day to day life after this look into handguns and lurk or do your own research. There is a lot that goes into selecting a handgun that is a good fit for whatever your intentions are.

A pistol caliber carbine would be light, handy, and great for backpacking or camping while still having some power. I wouldn't trust it for bear defense though, but it would be a nice option in the home.

Cheap ar15 is a fun starting point if you want to go that direction. Great at home, ok camping and backpacking, and loaded correctly could be viable for bear defense.

I want it for general home defence and to take out with me during camping. I dont intend to carry it on me or conceal carry.

I dont know much about firearms, so I'll look into that mossberg 500.

You can get a lot done with $2,800. Just done forget to account for ammo, cleaning equipment, a sling, and a light if you want it for the house. A .22lr handgun and a 12 gauge shotgun can handle anything you want to do in the outdoors in my opinion.

Idk if any other anons want to chime in, I dont have experience with a semi shot gun. I use my pump for hunting, shooting clays, and just general shotgun business which I think pumps excel at.4
Semis can have reliability issues as the different types of shotgun loads operate at various different pressures and some dont always cycle the firearm. That and they are just a little more complicated in terms of parts. So long as you train and understand the manual of arms for your gun you will be fine either way..

I was going to ask PrepHole but I figure I'd ask here too. I want to make a light-up target. The concept is simple; behind the paper target is are two sheets of aluminum foil separated by another sheet of paper. They act as a capacitor, and when the bullet passes through it gets shorted, causing a light to switch on until you switch it back off.

I don't know electronics well enough to make it myself, but I figure it'd be a pretty simple circuit.
