Barrels, Who makes good ones? Is faxon any good? I see ballistic advantage all over the place. What about AR 308?

LOL frick noveske. For that money you could get a krieger or bartlien which are literally the best if accuracy is what you want. If chrome lined DD or Criterioun, if weight matters faxon.

Love faxon, gunner is peak ar15 general purpose profile. My AR10s match barrel from them will shoot consistent .6moa five shot groups and my grendel match barrel from them better.

Yes Faxon is good and is probably the intersection of price/performance. BA is shit tier. Palmetto sells FN CHF barrels that are good. DD is good but expensive. Noveske is meme shit for morons who love Spikes Tactical but aren’t poor.

Spikes has those FN 249 barrels though. Thicc chrome lining, CHF. I got one just to have a barrel that will outlast me.

Ballistic advantage hanson profile is criterion core profile though so it has its merits they coat their chambers for smooth feeding and have a 1 moa guarantee with match ammo. They are literally better than average. Meanwhile you have idiots here touting expo arms 99 dollar barrels because theyre cheap as frick coping that theyre criterion made or some shit lmao with their 4 moa and shit. You can tell its literally only because of the pack of chrome lining the shit talking. You are stupid and your baseless opinion is stupid.

One of my BA barrels was > 0.020 over spec for headspace and another was > 0.015. I had case head separation from the beginning. Stay away. Green mountain is supposed to be decent.

Pic rel is my Taurus 856. I didn't notice the asymmetry when I did the transfer, and now it triggers my autism. Even if Taurus will fix it under warranty, I don't want to send it off and be without a handgun.

Would it be insane to remove the hammer and reshape the frame with a file? Would brown Scotch Brite return it to a similar matte finish?

      Burt

That finish looks bead blasted, so nah Scotch Brite won't match very well. There will be lines and the reflectivity won't be the same. If the unevenness ticks you then the finish you leave behind after filing definitely will lol just don't look at it from the top.

And I doubt Taurus would take it back to fix it since it's not affecting anything but if you really want to pay $40+ to send it back you could try asking. Their warranty is pretty open.

This is kind of a moronic question but what is the closest I can get to owning an HK416? No, I don’t want a Daniel Defense. Yes, I am an HKuck.

Haenel/Caracal CAR816? Is pretty cheap, a German/UAE derivative of the 416. If you have many money you can buy an actual HK 416 upper and put it on a MR556 lower, probably the closest possible

Idk where else to ask this but any preppers help me out here. How can I store rice and beans without mylar bags? Or is it better to just do it and use a curling iron or something to seal them? I'd rather not mess with all of that and am looking for another way to store the food.

    >And for more /k related stuff. Can I buy a 5.56 suppressor and use it on my .22 as well or should I just buy a dedicated .22 can? I'll probably shoot way more .22 than I will 5.56

      Anonymous

I think PrepHole has a prepper thread. If not, try PrepHole.

I think the best way to store them is to use steel cans. You can buy empty #10 cans and separate lids, and there is a hand-cranked tool to fold the lid and can lip over to make a seal.

Get a nitrogen tank and some oxygen absorbers, throw an absorber or two into the can, hose it with nitrogen, slap a lid on, and turn the crank. Wa-la.

But TBQPH the mylar bag thing is easier and cheaper and won't rust.

Yes of course. It will just be bigger and heavier.

Yes of course. It will just be bigger and heavier.

You need to be sure it is a user serviceable silencer. If not the .22 ammo will get the baffles dirty fast and that can lead to issues.

I have 2 faxon and they are both quite accurate. I’m happy with the price to performance. The 18” match gunner snd 20” match fluted are both sub-MOA with my reloads. About 2 MOA, maybe a little under. with PMC 55gr which seems about right.

Can anyone explain what happens in the video in this tweet at the 27 second mark? Did these two guys get shot in the back with tracer rounds, and somehow be otherwise unaffected beyond the light and smoke show?

gun safes are more for insurance/fire safety than actual theft deterrent. you'd be better served getting a desk with locking drawers or a locking file cabinet and banking on the nogs that break in going for your TV/valuables first

I have an enfield that makes bullets tumble like crazy even at close range, whatever the brand/shape of ammo. Rebarreling would cost too much. What should I do, keep it as-is as a secondary HD gun or obrez it?

What does the crown of your barrel look like? Take a pic. What is the erosion/wear like? (stick a round bullet first in the end of the barrel; msg could probably tell you how good/bad how far the bullet being accepted into the barrel is) Has it been reamed for a larger caliber or wildcat of .303 that's flared/necked up to a larger caliber?

    Shower thoughts.
I was contemplating what I would do if I get wounded in a gunfight. Gunshot injuries can leave very violent wounds and I don't think I'm well equipped to handle even moderate ones.
Assuming an SHTF scenario where there's no expectation of medical professionals on tap is it even worth exploring more advanced first aid care for gunshot wounds or are you probably dead regardless?

My level of expertise is as follows (mostly learned from MGS3)
    >if I'm bleeding, disinfect the area
    >sew it up or apply some kind of glue if it's a big open wound
    >wrap that in a bandage
    >check the bandage every 12 or so hours to make sure everything looks okay
beyond that I don't know when to apply a tourniquet, I don't know how to fixed broken bones, I don't know how to remove bullets, and in general, I probably can't correctly diagnose more complex injuries unless there's a clearly visible feature to the wound, such as a bone poking out of my skin.

      Anonymous

Apply a tourniquet if you're bleeding to death from your arm/leg. Assuming no help is coming, it'll keep you from bleeding to death but that's about it. Don't worry about trying to extract bullets unless you can literally see it and can disinfect a tool to remove it with. IIRC Reagan lived the rest of his life with one of the bullets in him from the failed assassination attempt. Quikclot could also be useful, but again that's just going to buy you time more than anything. Go take a Stop The Bleed course and get CPR training before TEOTWAWKI if you really care about this stuff.

Any Brits about? What are the gun laws exactly there? Last I heard it was extremely difficult to get a permit and collectors had to fill the barrels. But is it still clamped down on? No idea being from the US

sound cancelling. yes, i know it doesnt work on sharp sudden noises, its for continuous/predictable noise because it needs to "register" the sound, calc some maths before it can put out the "opposite wave". if you wired the trigger to whatever sound cancelling system, then the system could know in "xxx milliseconds, round will be fired from this gun, presumably the user is behind it using it correctly". could you sound cancel that? sure, the report is different depending where you are, but even just cancelling 10% would be sorta nice for a range or hunting trip, and even in different altitudes/enivroments, atleast MOST of the gun report would be predictable
