Instead of tasers why don’t we utilize wasp venom to send them into intense muscle spasms and pain? Seems like 1 hypodermic dart would be easier to stick than a shitty taser. Yada yada anaphylaxis shock. People die from tasers too. At least you can treat them with an epipen.

OC is harmless (although extremely painful and can temporarily impair vision), CS is banned by the Hague and used to set people on fire or on protestors.

The problem with any sort of venom or chemical agent is that it is essentially impossible to make the dose effective enough most of the time yet not kill people a lot of the time.

        Anonymous

Idk, 1 sting with of venom per dart, and dose it out. You could also maybe use different venoms for different effects. It seems fun at least. I’m so bored with tasers.

It takes time for chemicals to take effect. How long are you going to wait between each shot before determining that another is requred?

What would the difficulty be in making a quality reproduction ww2 flamethrower? It seems like just welding and basic machining/fitting would be the required skill set to make it. Almost all the parts seem like the could be found easily and relatively cheaply.

      Anonymous

      >What would the difficulty be
Very specifically pressurized tank safety requirements. The tanks used on the M2 aren't thick enough to meet consumer product safety requirements. That means you either
      1) can't make the pressure as high, which limits range and ferocity
      2) have to make the tanks much smaller at the same (already pretty high) weight which limits burn time.
Otherwise the technology really isn't that insane. Maybe the igniters would take some work.

Idk I easily found 500psi liquid propane tanks in the right size, and a 2500psi nitrogen tank easily. I’m not really talking about a perfect replica; but a functional one with modern consumer parts.

Well then that's not really a replica. Are you asking if you can just make a similar, working flamethrower? Yeah, pretty easily.

We now have the ability to make guidance systems on the cheap that can survive being mounted on artillery shells. What prevents us from taking those hyper velocity rail gun projectiles (glorified chunk of steel), sticking em in the world's biggest sabot, and going back to naval deck guns? Reinmetal RH-120s already get APFSDS up to like 5000fps, the Navy's rail gun got projectiles up to 8000 so it's not impossible at deck gun scale.

I've had a bunch of people buy me random assorted ammo the past year or so, and none of them seem to match the POA/POI I get whenever I force myself to put a box of HST through my carry piece to make sure I'm not getting too rusty or anything, so if I could just try and narrow it down, more or less, that'd be awesome.
I also suck at Google, because trying "HST practice ammo", "Ballistically matched ammo for HST", etc., the results all suck ass.

Actually, just tried something else, and apparently their "Practice & Defend" line, with the Syntechs I guess, are "matched" together? Anyone have experience with it? I've bought a few things from PSA and had very mixed results with their shipping processes but the actual products have been great. One time I ordered a couple smaller things, one item showed up separately like two days before the others and only after they'd all arrived did I get an email saying they'd even shipped kek. Don't sweat the shipping stuff unless like 15 business days (3 weeks) go by and you haven't heard or received anything, then I'd reach out.

I think I need to give them FFL info or something happened with my order. Last order was "processing", this one is just "review". On their forum, the support was saying it could be that the system didn't think their info was correct/complete or that the FFL info was outdated (which would be weird as they were marked as "on file"). First time I've ordered from PSA. I'll give them a call tomorrow if it's still "review".

I was thinking of building a subsonic-only home defense SBR in either .350 Legend or .300 Blackout, but really, .350L seems to really only have
      >Bigger boolit
going for it, whereas .300BLK is quite a bit cheaper (talking barrels, suppressors, ammo, etc. etc.), and if I ever did have to use it, I rather not be in the hole as much if the PD ends up never returning it. (inb4 muh tax stamps why then!?)
I was also thinking of an RMR on it, but, again, in the vein of being cheap, I wonder if the Holosuns would be worth it? I was thinking the closed-types like the 509, EPS, and AEMS, but, if it's sitting at home all day, I suppose something like a 508 would do fine, unless there's cheaper stuff that's decent... Thoughts?

It's 350L, soon to be SBR and my suppressor is in the works
        >raptor 10 .375"
The reality is that .350 subs are WAY better than .300. The 350 subs you buy in the store will actually expand, the 300s will not. Also boolit bigger.
I find it very pleasant to shoot.

Don't really know where else to ask this, but as a pre 9/11 Zoomer I can't tell if this is a recent phenomenon or whether it's gaining traction now but...

The United States in recent years has had an rise of Pro-gun grassroots and judicial victories, shifting the position of "Pro-Gun" 20 years ago from fuddery, "well actually an AWB is okay" """pro-gunners""" to nothing short of a cultural/constitutional revival with a likely majority of gun owners believing the 2nd Amendment is an absolute right (it is) and all gun laws being an infringement. But I wonder in what part anti-gun propaganda, specifically that of British/Australian "Anglo-Sphere" fearporned anti-gun propaganda and moral busybodies has contributed to this rise too.

Whilst it'd be impossible to ignore the grassroots and general constitutional revivalism in the States, seeing the Brits and Australians especially who are constantly clamouring, reaching and foaming at the mouth to try and take the 2nd away from you, it's hard to believe that people haven't noticed this even in some part, with most people here likely knowing the
    >As a BRIT I think guns bad and I want the State to use force to enforce that for your safety!
spiel. I just have to wonder how big of an impact if any all of this has on People. And if it does how much of an effect it's had on the Pro-2A mindset.

Any Anons have any insight into this? Legitimately curious as whilst it's likely very little, just as I'm bombarded by it every day, it's hard even as a foreigner to not have urge to tell people (brits especially) to frick off you'll never have them.

Don't believe the media that all Australians are pro demolition of the 2nd Amendment.

.44 Mag has a lot more power out of a rifle or carbine length barrel compared to .45 Colt especially if you are going to be handloading. I have a Henry Big Boy in .44 and it's a fantastic woods gun.

Not a bad choice at all. They're reliable, easy to shoot, have a pretty good aftermarket. Someone will probably b***h about the price. And yeah, there are other guns you can get for less which will leave you more money for ammo and range time but I don't know your financial situation and I don't think the Mini-14 is overpriced.

The mini-14 has expensive and shitty mags, there's a ton of old clapped mini's out there a newbie won't easily differentiate, and rugers QC is trash, I've bought 2 and played with 1 from a friend and they all had mystery extraction issues. They are categorically unreliable. They had one good aftermarket option, but Tapco is out of business and most of the others are low production rate, or actual trash. Minis are not a good *choice*, let alone for a beginner. Just buy a fricking AR if you're not sure, it will just work and you can actually sell it in a reasonable time span if you really aren't into it. Saying anything has aftermarket in comparison to an AR is just silly to boot.

Mostly just boomers at work talking about what awesome shots they are. One guy claims he never uses sights on handguns because they “just get in the way” and claims to never miss what he shoots at. I try to hold my tongue as somebody who actively does 3-gun.
Another guy is one of those one uppers about everything and of course claims to be hitting incredibly small targets constantly. Claimed to have just grabbed his buddy’s SKS and fired hitting six beer cans in a row at 100+ yards. Which is not a crazy feat for a decent shooter, but this guy argued with another boomer for 30 minutes about what caliber the SKS is in, and they were both wrong.
Neither has been in the military but both talk about it a ton. Small but constant things that trigger my autism like calling the M60 a “light M50” (?????) and really having no clue about basic tactics but thinking themselves masters of guerrilla combat. Of course talking about vaguely fighting oppressive government forces by doing “hit and run” in the woods. I should mention one guy is a pack a day smoker and the other dude is obese and neither of them could run a 1/4 mile without dying so yeah the tough talk is grating.

Is there any practical difference between O&U and SXS shotguns?
Looking at bird guns, not necessarily anything super tactical. Upland, if that makes any difference.

      Anonymous

Functionally? A bit. An O/U has less barrel blocking your vision so it gives you a bigger field of view for aerial targets. This is the primary reason why they rule clay sports today. A SxS tends to throw its shot slightly left or right depending on which barrel is being fired. Likewise an O/U tends to shoot slightly higher with the upper barrel. The SxS is slightly faster to reload because it doesn't have to open as far to give clearance for the shells to come out.

As far as buying guns goes there is a huge practical difference: there really is no mid-level for Side-by-sides. You've got Turkshit at the low end, i.e. Cowboy larp stuff like Stoeger, there simply is no middle of the road, and then you get to say the $5k mark where you can get something like a Beretta 486 Paralello or maybe a CSMC RBL. On the other hand there are some really good O/Us for far less than that. The Beretta Silver Pigeon and the Browning Citori are generally considered the entry level for serious hunting/clays guns, they're about $2k or a little over. Either is highly recommended but sadly there is no SxS equivalent.

If you are willing to look at used guns then then you can find some good middle-of-the-road Side-by-Sides. Depending on condition & caliber you ought to be able to find something like a Beretta Silver Hawk, AyA Matador, Webley & Scott 712, for $1-2k. The Silver Hawk is a very good buy, it's basically a copy of a Greener boxlock, well made, very simple design, very strong lockup with the Greener crossbolt.

      >A translation of German Scharfschütze, from scharf (adj.) "sharp" + schütze "shooter," from schießen "to shoot."
According to a few sources it started to appear in english in the 18th century so well before the Sharps rifle. The fact the Sharps was usually given to sharpshooters is just a coincidence (though some say the term entered the American lexicon thanks to the Sharps and the term appeared in British and American English at different times through different means)

I’d say the shotgun. Yes, you have less ammo and it’s heavier, but if you might actually have to depend on it, I’d rather have something that isn’t likely to jam and can drop something in one or two shots.

Can anyone give me the rundown on Massachusetts gun laws? Might have some opportunities to move there in the future (my work has an office in boston), but I get the impression it has some of the strictest laws in the US. I am aware that a licence is needed, and I am used to this living in england, but my questions are: what are the laws regarding "assault weapons"/ aesthetic bans on guns? Can you build your own guns in mass? Can you own NFA items such as supressors? Can you shoot on public land?

      Anonymous

All I know is hollow points and high capacity mags are banned. My work transferred me here from AZ and I didn’t even bother to bring anything because I couldn’t get a straight answer from anybody.

Hollow points are not banned, post-ban high-cap mages are.

Regarding NFA stuff: Massachusetts bans suppressors under state law. SBSes, SBRs, and AOWs, are legal. Machine guns are legal but require an extra license--I have no idea how hard that is to get. Destructive Devices are all over the map--some are legal, some are banned by the state, some are banned at the local level.

wow that's gay that you can't own supressors. As far as "assault weapons", is it the same as the 94 ban or does it only have to have one "assault feature" to be an assault weapon like california? I had also heard something about all ARs, AKs being banned regardless of features based on the reciever, but can't find solid info. Can you confirm or deny? And how hard is it to get the Not-AR recievers in from canada to the US that they have to circumvent restriction?

Why do people act like recoil is such a big deal? Using one of the hardest kicking 12 gauge pump actions, I burn through shells. I realized 000 410 to 00 12 gauge is hardly a jump in recoil depending on the gun. I even confused the 3 inch magnum shells for the regular 00 buck. I was a little confused but I figured it out the day after. I am truly baffled about how much people b***h and b***h and b***h about recoil. I’m a twig too. Do they think they are being a tough guy or something?

      Anonymous

Some people view recoil as some big manly challenge. When they talk about recoil they see it like some obstacle to overcome. To them it's binary. Either you "can handle the recoil" or you "cant handle it". Their criteria for "handling the recoil" usually means something like hitting the target without hurting themselves. The consider this an achievement, like some video game medal or chugging a pitcher of beer with the fratboys and not throwing up.
Those people are missing the point entirely.

When most shooters talk about recoil they're talking about something much finer. They're not talking about "handling" some high recoiling gun, they're worried about fine-tuning their groups and/or their speed. You say you shoot your shotgun a lot: surely you've noticed that lower-recoiling shells make for faster followup shots when you're shooting doubles? What do different shells do your your split times if you shoot 3-gun style?

      > realized 000 410 to 00 12 gauge is hardly a jump in recoil
Anon, the size of the shot pellets has nothing whatsoever to do with the recoil of the shell. It's the total mass of shot and the velocity which matters, not what size those pellets are. 2oz of small birdshot will kick a frick of a lot harder than a 1oz slug, all else being equal.

What’s the absolute minimum amount of equipment you need for a reloading setup, and how much would it all cost?

      Anonymous

That's a really open-ended question. It depends entirely on what you are loading.
Shotshells and some straight-walled cases require only very basic tools: a punch to knock out primers, a mallet of some kind of seat primers, and a means of measuring powder--that could be a scale or a volumetric measure. You can piece it together yourself or buy a commercial equivalent, i.e. the "Lee Loader".

Other cartridges require dies for forming brass and crimping the bullets in place. This requires a press, which varies in cost based on its size and how complex it is. Also depending on what cartridge you are working with you may need extra things. For example, if you are reloading mil spec brass then you will need a tool to reform the crimps in the primer pocket. Some tools may or may not be important depending on what you're doing. Calipers are vital if you're trying to make accurate long-range rifle loads. You don't need them if you're reloading 12ga.

So, tell us what you want to load for.

Okay, it seems "review" when it comes to Palmetto State Armory order status can mean almost anything according to both the forums and according to support. It can (supposedly) mean:
      >some info in the order wasn't correct
      >the FFL info is out of date
      >they haven't started packing your order due to the short amount of time between order and checking (or you ordered it on a non-business day)
and probably more. Some of these might be wrong because of forum morons getting it wrong but that's what I understand.

WWII, sorry. I saw a schizopost claiming that the draft could have been used to intentionally cull right-wing men. The one verifiable piece of information I remember from it was that the anon claimed America did not take volunteers at all during the initial draft waves of WWII, which could easily mean that the government was intentionally sending people they didn't like to get slaughtered overseas since the initial days of wars are usually the bloodiest.

I didn't save the post unfortunately, and it's very hard to research a negative. I was scrolling through FDR's executive orders to see if anything stuck out but there are hundreds and it doesn't help that he was a four-termer.

Is the internal geometry of an AR upper cast or machined? Specifically, how do they make the groove that makes the bolt turn and unlock when the carrier is pulled back?

      Anonymous

The feature you're talking about is in the bolt carrier, not the upper. It is the "bolt cam" in picrel. It is machined. Cast surfaces are rough, they cannot be used for things like that unless you want the gun to wear itself to death in short order.

        Anonymous

I did mean the upper but I forgot how it works. Nothing inside the upper touches the end of the cam pin, right?

The carrier rides on some tracks inside the upper. How do they make that all smooth? My machining experience is limited, but I know you lose rigidity when trying to machine something inside a deep hole.

That is true. I tried switching the forend to some magpul shit and it was an incredibly tight fit. Tried looking online for a fix and it's a common issue, some people sanded down the action bar slightly and got it to fit, but I'd rather just mod the forend itself and keep the important parts of the shotgun stock if I ever feel like selling it.

Anyone ever sold guns on gunbroker before? Tips and tricks for a moron?

      Anonymous

Most of the gunbroker tips and tricks come from the Buyer's end, IMHO. But, some good things you can do when youre selling:
      1) take good photos and plenty of them.
      2) don't frick up your spelling in the listing or people using the search tool will never find your gun
      3) Pay attention to when your auction will end. You want this to be a time when most people are at home and aren't distracted by work. Sunday afternoon is a good time.

Finally, have a good idea of what you are selling is worth and set a buy-it-now accordingy. You can determine the value of what you have by searching completed auctions. Once you know what the gun is realistically worth set a buy-it-now price slightly higher. The idea is to get a buyer interested in your gun to weigh the decision of bidding, in which case he'll likely pay the fair going rate, or he can pay your slightly higher buy-it-now to guarantee he gets it and to skip the auction hassles. So lets say your gun normally sells for $1000 you might put it up with a buy-it-now of $1200 and see if anyone bites.

Thanks, it's a handful of middle of the road fudd shit guns I inherited of no sentimental value, mostly redundancies that I feel no guilt over or would enjoy using beyond "it's in the safe". After it sells, how do I figure shipping? I see on most posts the shipping rates are not nearly as high as the cost for shipping for me, like $25 is pretty standard for pistols but after doing some calculating that's way low. Is it just expected I eat that bit of shipping or am I missing something?

          Anonymous

Tell the seller you will charge them exactly what it cost you to ship the gun. You can determine that once you know their address and you have the gun packed up so you know its dimensions and weight.
Also, this is something I'm a bit out of date on so you will have to look this up: recently UPS and FedEx have tightened their policies about shipping guns. I heard they won't accept guns from non-FFL holders or something to that effect. You need to find out if that's true and what the specifics of it are since you might have to pay an FFL to ship the guns for you.

They aren't really "gun brush kits". They're just generic cleaning brushes. Every hardware store and auto parts store sells those same things, they just don't say gun on them. Can you calculate a bullet's velocity if you have two known point of impacts at two different distances?

I don't have a chronograph but can you roughly calculate out your projectile's speed if you know, say, you have a 0" drop at 100 yards and a 2" drop at 300 yards?

Is there a formula for that?

      Anonymous

Easiest way would be to go on a ballistic calculator, file in your rifle/shooting conditions and try a few different ammo settings until you find something that hits the same, to get a rough idea of what you're shooting

        Anonymous

Well, it's going to be tough. If you know your drop, zero and your ballistic coefficient then you can just brute force the numbers. It won't be very accurate, though, because of the uncertainty of your drop measurement.
        https://shooterscalculator.com/ballistic-trajectory-chart.php

Impossible without knowing the ballistic coefficient of the projectile or the angle it struck one of the targets.

sounds like I'll just pony up for the caldwell chronograph then

          Anonymous

          >sounds like I'll just pony up for the caldwell chronograph then
Hang on a sec. It sounds like you are able to provide a lot more information than just two points of impact. If you are shooting the gun then you know what angle you're shooting it, what the bullet is and therefore you can look up it's ballistic coefficient.

Oh, and another thing you can do to measure the velocity of your own bullets is to build a ballistic pendulum and then back-calculate it since you know the bullet's mass. They are pretty easy to build from scrounged materials.

      Anonymous

Well, it's going to be tough. If you know your drop, zero and your ballistic coefficient then you can just brute force the numbers. It won't be very accurate, though, because of the uncertainty of your drop measurement.

Impossible without knowing the ballistic coefficient of the projectile or the angle it struck one of the targets.

      Anonymous

Theoretically its possible but with an offset zero it'd be hard to get an answer precise enough to be useful. Gravity accelerates things at a logarithmic pace, not a constant one, so you would need to know precisely when and where the apex of the bullet where it stops going up and starts to go down. All of the following is ignoring air resistance which can vary a bit depending on things like altitude, humidity, the bullet shape, and wind.
Assuming you know that, gravity accelerates things at roughly 32.15 f/s^2, and we are starting with a vertical velocity of 0 f/s at the apex and falling from there. So, the time to fall the first inch is 0.07197, the time to fall two inches is 0.10179, and the time to fall 3 inches is .12466 seconds. Take the distance and divide it by the time to get the speed.
In your case, if the apex of the bullets travel (not necessarily the zero) was at 100 yards and it had dropped 2" by 300 yards, you would find the velocity as follows:
      distance/time=
      ((300 yards - 100 yards)*3 feet/yard) / (.10719 seconds to fall 2")= 600 feet/.10719 seconds= 5597 f/s

The formula for finding the time to fall x inches is time in seconds=sqrt(2*(x/12)/32.15)

Will a levergun chambered in 357 generally take both magnum and regular 357?

      Anonymous

There isn't a 'regular' non-magnum .357, its all .357 Smith & Wesson Magnum, people just don't always say the full name. Most lever guns chambered in it will also shoot .38 special.

        Anonymous

Huh, figured there was a difference. Was looking at the gun store and all they had was .357 mag that required 6-inch barrels. Seeing as how I got a 357 revolver with a shorter barrel, I figured there was some kind of difference between various 357's

          Anonymous

          >I figured there was some kind of difference between various 357's
.357s come in various styles with different barrel lengths, styles of sights and grips, etc, depending on what the intended purpose is. For example, a carry gun will probably be a short barrel, round butt grip, and might have the hammer bobbed or shrouded so its easy to conceal or carry in a pocket. On the other hand a gun for hunting or target shooting could have a much bigger grip, longer barrel, and perhaps a scope or special target sights. But if they are both .357 they will both fire the same cartridge. Like the other anon said, it's all .357 Magnum it's just people often leave off the "magnum" part.

Now, if we're going to be technically correct there is another .357: .357 SuperMag aka .357 Maximum. This is an obscure cartridge, nobody is currently making guns in it either. It was a niche cartridge for Metallic Silhouette shooting which is not very popular these days but was a more popular thing in the 70's and 80's.

I've had good experiences with some and dangerously bad with others, generally its more than worth it to buy cheap new production stuff than remans. You can see that it was the first shot in the cylinder, if I had shot again it could have been catastrophic. Being that the price of good ammo is substantially cheaper than it has been in the past few years right now, I don't see a compelling point to be buying remans right now. I'd legitimately rather have 500 rounds of Remington than a thousand of Ammo Inc.

I'd just sell it on GB or a local trading group. It's an AK with a forged trunnion and chrome lined barrel so you can easily get at least 600-800 for it.

If it's remanufactured by an actual company it's usually fine. We're not talking bubba with his drunken pissin hot reloads, but an actual business with an FFL that has to worry about liability.
Past that I'd stick with calibers that can be reloaded without issue, for instance 38 Special, 45 and 9mm are fine but 40 S&W reloads should be avoided (case fatigue is a particularly pressing issue with that caliber).

The WW2 German stuff all has a certain coolness to it that's hard to explain, even if it's a reproduction. You're not the only one who was looking forward to the STG44 repro.
Not much news on the project since PSA picked up the pieces. They have a lot of projects on their plate right now, especially with their upcoming H&R retro AR line in the works. It could be a while before their attempt at an STG44 repro sees the light of day.

      https://i.imgur.com/vG0ETVW.jpg

This is a model 642 and all five slots on the cylinder have this wear. Was this gun abused or is this normal? More importantly is it safe to shoot, or could this cause a timing issue? My knowledge on revolvers isn't exactly esoteric.

      [...]
Keep in mind that the most a device like that can do is serve as a go-no-go test for beta and gamma radiation. Even with expensive equipment getting an accurate and useful reading is not straightforward, so I wouldn't sweat the exact number a whole lot. If it reads more than 3 times as much as normal then yeah I'd probably get the frick away.

That notch is what the bolt locks into when the cylinder is locked up. It's definitely not good that it's chipped like that, but at a glance the chip doesn't look severe enough to necessarily warrant the gun being inoperable or unsafe so long as it locks up well enough.

Do a timing/lockup check and see if it's extra loose on that cylinder. In particular if you can push it out of lock on that cylinder while holding the trigger down, it's hosed. If it feels like all the others it's fine.

Tentatively I'd say the issue would be either the previous owner cowboy flicking it a bunch, or a factory defect. The latter has been happening a LOT with S&W revolvers across the board since 2020. If it's still under warranty, call their CS and see if they'll fix it for free.
If not, but it's still locking up ok shoot it as is but monitor that chip and stop if it chips more metal off or starts showing any cracks.

Does anyone have some quick guide about AR15 manufacturers? There's so many of them and I have no idea how to choose.

PSA is the bare minimum of you're poor. Expect some QC issues with how it's assembled and some of the small parts might wear out early, but they're great for the money. DO NOT go any cheaper.
Anderson is roughly on par with PSA.
Aero Precision is a slight step up, but only slightly. They have some decent options, but machining tolerances can vary and I've seen their lowers be out of spec a few times.
Wyndham is a solid middle of the road.
      Spike's Tactical is good too.
Colt is marked up to all hell because of muh brand.
Daniel Defense is solid but overpriced.
LMT and FN are very good but expensive.

Ruger is ok. The AR-556 and S&W M&P15 Sport have been the go-to entry level ARs for years, although you can get a bit more bang per buck with a PSA build.
Another upside of Aero is that they are currently spearheading the lawsuit against Washington's new AWB, so if you're buying from them you're supporting that fight.

Keeping rain off your magazines is a good idea, less because of water getting on your ammunition and more because you can rust your magazines (particularly the springs). If the ambient humidity is high enough it's something to check for periodically regardless, but reducing direct water exposure. anyone here have one of these carbine conversion kits?
does the recoil from the pistol necessitate a rear support structure? or is the front clamp enough? asking design-wise

      Anonymous

I'm gonna be honest, I don't understand your question so I'm going to interpret it in 2 ways and answer both.
      >does the recoil necessitate a stock or brace? or is the handguard enough?
It's not so much recoil that a stock helps with but aiming by giving you 4 points of contact between your shoulder, cheek, and both hands. Without a stock holding it with one hand on the grip and one on the handguard is worse than normal way you hold a pistol because you can't fully extend your dominant arm.
      >does the recoil from the pistol necessitate the trapdoor that holds the dovetail? or is the front clamp enough?
It's been awhile since I handled one, but if IIRC there is nothing that clamps the front of the gun. One reciprocating piece slots into the rear slide serrations, and there's a plastic trapdoor behind the gun that swings up to hold the frame forward and it's held in place by a plastic tab. I said frick that after I realized that tab takes the force of the recoil and you remove the gun by sliding it backwards. So if that tab fails the gun can come loose and then you're just shooting at your left hand since it's already positioned in front of the barrel.

    Two dumb questions:

    a) If .22 fits, does .22 work? Or am I going to ruin the gun by trying it out? Might also be a vermin gun or something.

    b) Let´s say that I found an old, rather ruined (rusted, wooden parts missing, lever action still working) gun in an old barn in no-guns-land, how would I best go about restoring it if I don´t have many possibilities?

      Anonymous

Most guns that fit 22lr can run all the other 22s. It'll just have issues feeding if its a semi auto.
Watch a gun restoration video, midway usa has some good ones. Then search for crucial missing parts, numrich is pretty good.

At a minimum it'll be good to clean the barrel/chamber. Obviously if the action is sticky shooing it will make it more sticky, but that's just the way it is. Godspeed and have fun, restoring guns is fun as all hell, just remember to be patient.

Already did the barrel and chamber as well as I could, with pipe cleaners and similar, but I think I´ll have to go for a full restoration before doing anything else. Hardest part will be to find a replacement shoulder stock or to carve one, myself, I think.

Lol what a top tier "I wish this is how the law worked so I'm just going to say its how it works" take.
Here's how it works: The owner of the property has rights on how you interact with the property. Especially in a situation of renting/leasing where somebody signs a contract. If the contract says no guns, then if you break that contract you can't fricking sue when the property owner decides to enforce their right to exclude you.

        >b-b-but shall not!
Cool story bro. Property owners aren't the government, they are private citizens with private property rights. Unless you think all those "no guns" signs in various businesses are something you can sue over.

True. They do have cameras and some roaming rent-a-cop. I've also got zero experience CCing.

If it's CONCEALED, then I don't see how they see it. I doubt this complex has some CSI zoom and enhance bullshit where they have employees combing over the details in footage. Even if you printed like a motherfricker under a shirt, its super unlikely some Susan in the main office will spot it. For real the only people who spot CC printing are other CCers who made a huge deal about it.
Inside your apartment, you've got tenant rights to privacy. This sounds like a legit complex and not some random person renting out a room- ie, a place big enough to know their legal liabilities and won't snoop through your stuff the way small time landlords sometimes do.
If you're in your apartment with a gun out, just make sure the blinds are closed.
        >I've also got zero experience CCing.
Probably a good idea to take a class on it even if your state doesn't require it, if you are feeling unsure.
Buy a decent holster. Don't fumble around with the gun in public.

Post a pic of the part of the Lease that says "No Funz Allowed."
Also, it wouldn't be that moronic as long as you're not a moron. Don't leave your gun out in plain sight, don't fingerfrick it while near a window if you have nosy neighbors. Absolutely do nothing that'll risk causing an ND, and absolutely do all the research possible.
Just asking the question is a good start. Find a carry gun that fits you and isn't going to stand out like a sore thumb, and make sure you are 100% aware of where (awhere!) your gun is when maintenance or cleaning comes by.
Basically, don't be a moron and do follow

Lol what a top tier "I wish this is how the law worked so I'm just going to say its how it works" take.
Here's how it works: The owner of the property has rights on how you interact with the property. Especially in a situation of renting/leasing where somebody signs a contract. If the contract says no guns, then if you break that contract you can't fricking sue when the property owner decides to enforce their right to exclude you.

      >b-b-but shall not!
Cool story bro. Property owners aren't the government, they are private citizens with private property rights. Unless you think all those "no guns" signs in various businesses are something you can sue over.

      [...]

      's advice.

Further consideration is that if you're planning on possessing lease-breaking shit, then you should have a plan in the event you get caught. All well and good to have a firearm to defend yourself, but if you get into a defensive situation you need to be ready for what comes next. Having a plan in case you have to move ASAP is a good idea regardless, but doubly so if it's because you might have to break your lease in the course of defending yourself.
To reiterate: Don't be a moron, don't ND, don't show off the fact you have a gun, etc. When you first start carrying you're going to feel REALLY self-conscious, like people all know and are staring at you. And unless you make it really obvious, they won't know and the only reason they'll be staring is because you look and smell like a caveman.
Do your research, and if you're going to concealed carry the only person who should know you have a gun is you.

I bought some CCI stingers to go hunting with like a week ago, and today I was going through the manual for my 10/22 and found a part stating that it isn't compatible with stinger rounds. After further looking into it I found people saying anything from "it works fine, shot em out of my 10/22 with no issue" to "It may cause more wear and tear on the parts so a buffer tube may be good to add"
I only really intend on testing out my groupings with em and hunting, so am I good to go or should I just avoid shooting em through my semi-autos?

      Anonymous

Its good, you won't hurt anything
Wear might be slightly accelerated but its pretty negligible, I wouldn't worry about it.

I just finished a casual playthrough of re2 with the infinite ammo 380acp mp5. Is there a 380acp carbine other than the hi-point on the market? It would be fun to have a much smaller compact carbine in 380acp.

Not really, being that .380 is more expensive and weaker than 9mm there is no real reason to make one. The gun can be a little smaller but it isn't really enough to make a difference over something like a USW or a TMP and with SBR laws in place that is a moot point to begin with. I guess some of the MACs and other cold war subguns came in .380 but thats not really what you are talking about.

Looking to get my first suppressor. Got a lot of stupid questions.
Any helpful links for what the process looks like?

Are gun trusts just for a single NFA item or can I put multiple into it? Does online buying work the same as a regular gun purchase except I would ship the can to an SOT and then fill out my Form 4 and get fingerprinted at their brick&mortar? Then the shop holds onto it for months until I clear the background check?

      Anonymous

You can add guns to a trust, you can also add people to a trust.

      Purchase works like this:
      >you buy (pay for) the item
      >the seller & your SOT do transfer paperwork. you're not involved, this usually takes about a month.
      >once that's done the seller ships the item to your SOT.
      >You & your SOT do paperwork. Some SOTs are set up to do photos and fingerprints, other times you'll have to figure that out on your own.
      >months go by for the background check. SOT keeps the gun during this time. this waiting period is affectionately known as "NFA jail"
      >your SOT gets the approval back, you pick up the item from SOT.

I've heard the rumor about .50 bmg killing you even if it doesn't hit you. While this has been disproven with standard rounds, a former marine at work claims that a SLAP rounds will hurt you even if they don't hit. Claims they are specifically designed for this.

Utter nonsense. There's videos of people shooting .50 BMGs through playing-card houses on Youtube and none of the cards fall over.
SLAP is designed for armor penetration, you can easily look up the official US army documentation on it, it's in the small arms technical manual. It has nothing whatsoever to do with hurting people even if they don't hit. That's 110% fuddlore.

        >SLAP is designed for armor penetration
It could theoretically fragment the armor or vehicle its hitting and thus cause casualties from things that aren't the bullet itself, but a true miss wouldn't hurt you.

          Anonymous

          Yeah, like

This might be true in a very roundabout way, like kicking up enough fragmentation to hurt you if it hits hard cover adjacent to you. Or spallation of armour.

wrote spalling or fragmentation could cause injury if the round hit something nearby but the SLAP round is not designed to "hurt people even if they don't hit". The design purpose of the SLAP round is very clear: increase armor penetration by firing a projectile with higher hardness, greater sectional density, and higher velocity. Compare that to, say, Raufoss which contains a small explosive charge and is specifically inended to have an area effect with fragmentation.

It could also be someone conflating SLAP and Raufoss. Raufoss ammo has a fragmentation effect by design, but it has to hit *something* to set it off the charge and cause it to fragment.

These guys are told bullshit myths from more experienced guys. Then they tell you civilians this bullshit and you believe them because military guys have some special credibility.
Military guys have credibility as far as being end users of the specific equipment they used. They usually don’t know how it works. And they often throw around opinions on military gear they never actually used.
I was issued an M107 .50 caliber rifle. The number of times very senior NCOs or officers (who themselves had never used it) would start up a conversation about that rifle and spout absolute moronation is honestly astounding.

I went to the range with my dad with my new handgun. I had the magazines loaded because A) I wanted to figure out how to load them before being put under pressure and B) having them ready for home defense. I never put the magazines into the gun. When I got there, my dad was shocked that I had loaded the magazines and berated me. He said that I could have been charged with transporting a loaded gun, just because the mags were in the same case as the gun. I have since researched this and cannot find anything to support this. Not in illinois or most other states but that is/was a law in quite a few places, I know in Ohio you couldn't carry loaded magazines or speedloaders in a vehicle without a concealed pistol permit until a few years ago. Also, the legal definition of 'loaded gun' isn't always as obvious as you'd think, in some places having a box of ammo next to the gun in a case could be considered loaded, in other places you can have a loaded magazine in the gun as long as it doesn't have a round chambered.

No it makes no sense. The idea that .50 rounds blow peoples arms off even when missing is based on some kind of bullshit about the shockwave or whatever. Since we’ve established that is bullshit, we have to ask if the composition of a round somehow makes it happen. The answer should self evidently be no. This is just an evolution of the classic .50 cal myth.

If he was an infantry guy I doubt he ever fired or handled a .50 rifle. And if he did it was probably once, very briefly and without formal training. I’ll say 0% chance he actually fired or learned deeply about SLAP rounds. He knows basically as much as you do about it. You guys are both just using google, except he gets to flex his old USMC tattoo when he spouts off Google info.

Tavor isn’t a “bad” gun, it just kind of doesn’t bring much of actual value to the table which is why it will never be a massive hit.
I don’t even like bullpups and will admit it’s the best of the bunch that I’ve shot. People b***h about the spongy trigger, but for a military that trigger is fine. Tbh, better than the dumb ass 6 position trigger in M16A2/4s and M4s. Ergonomics and handling are fine. I can b***h about inherent bullpup issues but overall it’s not a huge deal. But the Tavor doesn’t do anything that an AR doesn’t. Yeah it’s a longer barrel in a shorter package but that’s not some massive overwhelming advantage that will make nations toss decades of AR-15 support.

For the private owner there is always the novelty and “I just like it bro” factor, but for practicality, an AR can have a finer tuned trigger and other upgrades that just don’t exist for a Tavor. Again, Tagore is shorter but it’s not like an HD gun with a traditional layout is unweldy, and tactical truck guns are a meme. So.

It's insane to me that the only fricking semi-auto tube mag bullpup shotgun in existence was made in the 70s. Are there any High Standard 10 modern equivalents? I wish Keltec's KS7 came with an autoloading action instead of pump....

      Anonymous

I don't know of any. I suspect the reason they don't exist is that they're an answer to a question nobody asked. For general combat purposes using a shotgun is silly. The range is limited, the ammo is huge, the capacity of the gun sucks. There is a case to be made for shotguns for LEO where they want to be able to fire less-lethal stuff, tear gas, etc, but those shells don't produce enough energy to cycle a semi-auto which is why the classic cop shotty is a pump.

Was the M1903 more used than the M1 Garand as a sniper rifle in WW2? If so, why?

Yes. They didn't have enough M1s to go around so M1903s were used in roles where the rapid fire of the M1 wasn't as important. It was also easier to mount optics to the 1903 and it was considered more accurate as well.

Yep, in most states. Generally they're considered 'deadly weapons' or 'dangerous ordinance' so they can be subject to different laws. For instance, you can carry one in Ohio, but since it isn't legally a handgun you aren't allowed to conceal it because you can only conceal carry handguns and no other deadly weapon (even with a concealed handgun permit).

My friend is making the argument that for a ccw holster it has to have some level of retention. He throws the 'what ifs' out there such as what if the fight goes to the ground, what if someone tries grabbing your pistol, etc. I on the other hand am advocating for the opposite. It needs to hold the weapon securely via friction but also shouldn't affect draw speed. Thoughts?

      Anonymous

Active retention isn't a bad thing but it absolutely is not necessary in a CC holster. If its concealed, chances are that your adversary probably won't know about it and thus won't go for it. Every active retention IWB holster I've seen would be deactivated just by grabbing for the gun like the safariland GLS, so its advantage over straight kydex in a disarm scenario is questionable imo.

Anything between 00 and #4 is fine for people, higher numbers will penetrate (and overpenetrate) less and therefore have a shorter effective range. Buy a box of each and see which patterns best in your particular gun, if you're just doing normal shotgun defensive shit than it probably won't make a difference.

Shotgun ammo is one of the cases where your LGS might be cheaper than online, because its so big and heavy to ship in bulk. Cheapest buckshot I've ever seen was 10 dollars a box (of 25), cheapest I've seen since the pandemic was 17 a box, neither were very high quality. High end good defensive shit like Federal Flight Control will be 2 dollars a round or so.

Get good stuff and pattern it, then buy a couple boxes to load the gun and train with the cheap shit.
