They definitely have losses. Quite a lot, although it's hard to say how much higher/lower they are than Russian because they are currently not very transparent about it.

I got drunk and ordered a case of MREs and never did any army service. What am I in for?

It's just really cheap food that's meant to be shelf stable for a long time more than being particularly good or nutritious. Eating a lot of it in one go is a good way to get severe constipation, but otherwise most of it is ok. Just cheap. Some of it will probably be familiar if you grocery shop at dollar stores.

Does anyone know if 5.45x39 is really going to be manufactured by PSA and/or K USA?

Hard to say until it happens, but they'll probably have to in order to maintain sales for their 5.45 rifles if nobody else does it.

I have a QTDDIOT, does anyone give a shit about Ian after he let himself get cucked out of publishing an actually relevant modern military strategy book he had already written thanks to the whinging of trannies, lefties, and other historical revisionists crying wolf?

He still puts out something interesting every now and then, but I've been a lot less interested now that it's a lot of
      >Check out this really common firearm that was made in the millions only it has this one stamp on it
      and
      >I'm answering a question that only a complete noob would ask because I get flooded with the same questions from noobs and I'm sick of it

I think his content still has a lot of value for beginners who want both a shallow and deep dive, but there doesn't seem to be much new under the sun from him lately if you've been into this stuff for a while.

      Can muskets misfire?
      Can revolvers misfire?
      How?

Muskets misfire a lot, especially flintlocks. Reliability is a huge reason why we went for primers and metallic cartridges.
Revolvers don't get feed jams, but the internal clockwork can get fricked and no longer align cylinder with barrel. Or you can still get a dud round that fails to fire, or a light strike. There's less things to fail, but there are still things.

        >Muskets misfire a lot,
Not if loaded correctly and used correctly they don't

        >especially flintlocks
No, no they don't, if they were unreliable to that extent in the hands of trained men, then they would never have been used. certainly someone who does not know what they are doing with an overfilled pan, weak mainspring, unhardened frizzen, worn flint, bad powder, blocked firehole etc etc will have a problem but in a correctly setup and loaded gun a flintlock will rarely fail. It is actually extremely rare to have a misfire on a percussion gun that is correctly loaded, on a par with a BPCR gun. Many people who are new to flintlocks will struggle making modern reproductions reliable, for a start many reproductions do not have hardened frizzens and the lock geometry is poor, the spring to weak or to hard, they overfill the pan etc. If you have got used to making a flintlock run you will know if it is going to go off. Many Napoleonic battles were fought in wet weather including Napoleons 100 day campaign culminating in waterloo, yet the flintlocks functioned, the same in the cold and snow of Russia. How the flint is fitted in the jaws, whether a strip of leather or lead is used to hold it, whether a flint or even in very early guns a piece of pyrite etc etc.

by summer, they'll start with 762x39 and build up batch's, when they have enough inventory, theyll switch to 545 and produce that batch at least half-million rounds of each caliber, PSA words not mine

I hope you're right. I miss the days of cheap steel case x39.

Are trademark laws preventing anyone from making a mp7 clone? No idea why psa would bother tessing a mp5 clone when no one is making mp7 unless there's a good legal reason.

Does anyone really care if the clone is chambered in 4.6? I'd rather take 5.7 or 9mm anyway. Actually prefer 9mm so I don't have to stock another caliber.

              Anonymous

If you don't care about the round then why care about it being an MP7 clone. If you want something small with a centered grip with a mag through it get a micro-uzi or mac-11/9 and you'll have your 9mm. sbr either and add a stock and you have small 9mm of that form factor down. The MP7 is about the round.

It looks cool. Wouldn't mind having a micro uzi but as I'm currently in commiefornia they're all just pipe dreams anyway. Been debating on a cmr30 look alike but not looking to get a possible lemon.

First, get out of CA. Once you are in a free state there are plenty of good looking firearms in 9mm that are clones of various SMGs and PDWs. You can get into MP5 clones pretty cheap these days if you're not autistic about all german parts and welds that are works of art. MP5 will always look cool even as their tech ages (although shooting roller lock is still comfy in the year 1986+37)

I plan to eventually. Several cases should be decided on soon so this shithole state might get a little more free in the near future but I'm not holding my breath. I agree the mp5 is also cool but the mp7 just looks better to me. Only autistic about older stuff that I can't justify buying anyway. Hoping the roster gets shot down and I can get some cool pistols while I'm still here.

CA is lost. Democrats have complete control with no hope to break that control in the short to mid term. The state will have to collapse before the people will throw them out and start over with leadership that has respect for liberty or even common sense. No matter what the courts decide, the state of CA will just pass their next infringing law to frick you over while you wait for the next decision to overturn it, wash, rinse, repeat. Just look at NY after the carry decision. SCOTUS sent a clear message that CCW had to be allowed and they doubled down on ways to stop their citizens from exercising that right. You need to get out, and wherever you go make sure you don't bring any of those CA politics with you.

back to MP7s, if you're really just after the look maybe start getting involved in fosscad and 3d printing stuff. Nothing out there today but 3d printed firearms that handle 9mm are common enough so strength is doable. If you just want the look in 9mm start learning and working with people produce a design that looks like an MP7

I love the land on the west coast but I would never trust the government of any west coast state enough to put down roots there. CA, WA, OR, all terrible for anyone who wants to be free. Sucks to write off all that beautiful coastline and mountains, but there's no saving them until their populations truly suffer under the leadership they've put in place enough that they are willing to finally through them all out.

Is it a noble pursuit to remain in the lands of one's birth and never give up hope for a brighter future, or simply a fools errand to suffer along with friends and family as the boot comes to crush us all?

I can't speak to Californians as that's not the land of my birth. I'm Texan. If Texas were ever to go the way of California I would stay, resist, and fight. I think that's a different situation though because if Texas is falling to authoritarian leftists then the rest of you are already long gone and we are the last best hope for the world.

You may be correct about ca but the cancer spreads if it's not contained. Your point with regards to NY is also salient and until scrotus does something I don't have a good argument to counter your claims. Maybe we get another freedom week before ca pulls more bullshit, I can't say but I wouldn't be surprised if the state ingores any rulings either.
                >make sure you don't bring any of those CA politics with you
CA is like most other states, the cities are blue, the rest is red. Now that they have mail in voting I don't see a Democrat ever losing another election so with regards to voting for change I think you're correct that ca is lost. If you were implying I vote blue, I'm insulted.

3d printing is something that I've played with a little and I think holds a great deal of potential. I've been trying to learn more about firearm design in my free time and develop the skills required to fully design a reliable, functioning firearm but I've still got a ways to go. Sadly, I'd need an ffl to actually make one legally in this shithole state and that's an issue I don't hear anyone fighting for.

                >there's no saving them until their populations truly suffer under the leadership they've put in place enough that they are willing to finally through them all out.

Yes, cancer spreads when nothing is left to fight it. Could be a pointless endeavor but I'm cautiously pessimistic things might change. Best case the big quake moves the coast to the east and saves us some trouble and time.

Several states have fewer gun laws than Texas, so while I respect the sentiment I think Texas being the last stand for freedom is not realistic. You have a similar problem to ca being on the border. The demographics who vote for statism in exchange for gibs. That being said, please do everything in your power to not have to fight from the severe disadvantage we have in ca. Never give an inch. The suppressor laws sidestepping the atf is an excellent start and I commend your state for actually trying to reclaim some rights. I don't see it almost anywhere else with nfa related shit.

of fricking course. the most likely.
spark. static. hammer gets knocked down. stray spark from nearby gunfire ignites your powder. and thats just with it going off.
if you include nothing happening as a misfire
      powder gets wet
      no flint
      cap isnt seated properly

there's a dozen ways any kind of musket ever can misfire

      Anonymous

      >Can muskets misfire?
Yes. Muskets are typically thought of as blackpowder single shot muzzleloading weapons with either a flintlock or percussion mechanism. There are therefore a host of specific malfunctions relating to each action as well as others relating to the black powder such as it being damp. I can't be more specific as the phrase musket covers almost 300 years worth of weapons with several different configurations and mechanisms

      >Can revolvers misfire?
Yes. See above. Again revolvers span both the pre brass cartridge percussion era to the modern day, almost 200 years and there are a vast number of differing mechanisms and ammunition types, some you can look up include cap and ball, pinfire and rimfire as well as centrefire. Broadly speaking ,mechanical or ammunition failure would result in a misfire but as with muskets, the range of quite different mechanisms that are revolvers makes a more specific answer impossible

I've been shooting my Ruger Precision Rimfire and while I normally shoot it at 50m, I've sighted it in for 100m and wrote down the numbers on the turrets. But how do I write down full turret turns (i.e. from 0 -> full 360° rotation -> 0)? Kinda want to train long range precision shooting on it when I'll buy a 308 or 6.5.

Easiest solution is to just have a notebook you keep with the gun.
I've seen people also do things like tape an index card to the stock. Just write it out in the most condensed form you'll understand later and then find a place to put the slip of paper.

        Anonymous

Is there seriously no standardized way of writing down scope adjustments that contain full turret rotations? Thankfully I only need like half a turret rotation from 50m to 100m... but if I get into LRPRS from 100m to 1000m, I'll need to somehow translate full rotations.

I'm seriously not that dumb, am I?

I just write down the total movement, since I know the number of clicks on the turret it's just mental math.

If you want to see what most people do, do an image search for "D.o.p.e. card"...

What class of gun would be best for a civilian non-combatant in civil unrest/shtf?
A lot of people go with carbines for good reason, but it seems like all of the likely fighting is well within pistol ranges and all the ways of carrying a concealed carbine are kind of convoluted. I feel like you would attract a lot less attention with a concealed service-size handgun and still be able to defend yourself.

      Anonymous

imo this is where having a stock on a handgun would be nice. Concealable as a pistol, but accurate to longer ranges with the stability of a stock. This is also almost the role pdws like the p90 were designed for, so those would be a good choice. And this is the very thing so-called short barreled rifles excel at, which might be one reason the government hates them so autistically.

Marksman rifles for staying out of sight and far enough away so you don't instantly get magdumped by 6 patrol carbines.
Conceal carry handguns to keep yourself from drawing unwanted attention when you aren't doing the former.

Makes sense, I'm just trying to justify spending money on a pistol with a dot. I think you should also have some sort of closer range red-dot and light equipped carbine for defending a house or whatever structure you happen to be in.

In what situation would you be instantly magdumped for just being around? A war zone? That seems like it would be more than just civil unrest. And if you are a non-combatant, why not have a good set of binoculars to see potential threats at a distance instead of carrying around a marksman rifle for that and possibly being mistaken for a combatant.
        >Conceal carry handguns to keep yourself from drawing unwanted attention
no argument there and probably the best answer to this kind of situation, where you are a non-combatant

Honestly I half ass read the post and missed the non-combatant part, so assuming you're not fighting anyone, the first part of my post doesn't apply.

wait and see how the pistol brace ruling blows up in their face. We could get SBR's off of the NFA, then PDW's will become more common. If you're going out, then yes a pistol is the easiest to conceal, but if it gets bad enough, don't go out where you can't have the carbine nearby.

    Have a specialized reloading question.
Is there any real difference between the Hornady 75gr and smk 77gr or nosler 77gr match bullets in terms of terminal ballistics and additionally why do there is? I assume it would have to do with bullet construction, but from the gel tests and anecdotal evidence the jump from 69gr to 73gr makes a good deal of difference speaking in terms of terminal effect on medium game like white tail deer.

Massad Ayoob group's MAG40 is probably the best for a civilian, Baer Solutions, there's a bunch of good training. I assume you mean defensive handgun.

Does the Mosin fit 4+1 or 5+1?

At least on my 91/30 and M44, 4+1. The magazine will hold 5 with the bolt open (so you can load it with a 5 round cip) but you can't close it overtop of 5 rounds in the mag, the bolt just barely catches the top round. Its so close that you might be able to relieve the magwell a bit and fit 5+1 with the factory mag and I'm not entirely sure that no army or boomer ever did that.

having it fixed was simple and cheap, hiding it under the handguard was convenient to prevent snags or assuage concerns about a reciprocating charging handle

also to be fair they didn't really think it was a good idea, the USMC only bought them out of necessity and ditched them as soon as they could get Thompsons. The Grease gun ended up being everything the Reising aspired to be.

I'm ordering a gun tomorrow and want to order a bunch of mags with it. They can ship them with the gun to my FFL or I can place another order separately straight to me and pay shipping twice.
Has anyone shipped mags to an FFL with a gun? Have they been ok with it or pissy that you're ordering mags through someone else?

I saw someone with a B&T grip on theirs and it was damn close. Good luck finding one, though.

My FFL only stocks normie shit like AR and glock mags, and I've never had any comments about my orders coming with the 1-2 mags they're boxed with. Then again, I've never ordered additional magazines that shipped to them.

A lot of new guns come with multiple mags in the box. If it's a small number of additional mags (i.e. under a dozen) no one would care. If there are several additional boxes of mags coming it might annoy them but worst you'll get is something along the lines of "don't do that again"

4 they definitely won't care and even 8 I can't imagine it being a problem unless your FFL is an butthole. If you received extra boxes just for mags I could see them getting a little annoyed, they're doing transfers not acting as a UPS store for you.

One acre isn't "land" that's a pretty normal suburban lot. That will subject you to all sorts of zoning, ordinances, building codes, etc... If you were thinking you'd shoot on that you almost certainly will not. Buy actual acreage. In my state if you have at least 50 acres no one can prevent you from shooting on your land, no city or county bullshit can get in the way, your land so you can shoot.

If you're in a blue state or purple state and you care about 2a stuff just get out now. Don't start putting down roots and then make it harder to up and leave when they take away your rights.

Owning land isn't a poorgay game. If those numbers scare you then an apartment is probably more your speed since you can't even get into a typical suburban home for those numbers. as long as the complete pinned and welded barrel assembly is 16"+, yes. As long as you keep the barrel length over SBR territory you're fine to retain the brace or put a stock on it.

10/22. Pic related model comes with iron sights, is also threaded, AND it's even cheaper by like $10-20 compared to the 10/22 Tactic00l. Both come with a (Weaver) rail. The Weaver (brand) picatinny rail is under $20 if the one either of them comes with doesn't work for you. Yes it's in FakeTree but who cares; at least .

I'd only get a .22lr AR15 if it were an upper conversion with a .22lr barrel using your normal lower. Also the S&W has a polymer lower IIRC so frick that. At least the 10/22 only has a plastic trigger group. But if you're going to be doing AR15 drills and practice in .22 I guess get the 15-22.

How exactly did the firearms community get so overwhelmed with all these comments from people who primarily care about how much their guns cost? Over last 10 years, I've seen the comments of "lol poor" or "poorgay" being used as an insult getting more common, and I find the firearms community to be unique in this aspect.

Two of my other hobbies are motorcycles and cars, both of which see frequent recommendations for just buying to cheapest thing and enjoying the hell out of it. For motorcycles, the GROM is well loved and recommended for only $3500 new. For cars, people love old, cheap Miatas and regularly recommend them for new car enthusiasts. Continuing from that, car enthusiasts have been lamenting the rising prices and dealer mark-ups for years, especially for models that should be affordable for the average Joe. Yet nobody in that hobby goes off about people being poor for not wanting to pay $7000 over MSRP for a Civic, or buying a BRZ instead of a Cayman. On top of that, in the real world, regular conversation has lately turned to stuff like rising food prices or peoples’ retirement funds being wiped out.

Yet here we are in the firearms hobby, where buying a Taurus instead of a Glock means you’re poor. Buying a Glock instead of a H&K means you’re poor. Buying a S&W M&P 15 instead of a DD means you’re poor. Over and over again I see this and it’s getting old. People who like guns aren’t immune from financial restrictions of everyday people. My best guesses are that it’s people who don’t have the money to show off with cars but can afford to buy top-dollar guns, or it’s just middle schoolers shitting up conversation.

This might be a bit of a blog post, but whatever, frick you. It’s something that annoys me a lot. Partially because shooting and gun ownership used to be something that was mostly enjoyed by rural, working class people and wasn’t a social media contest of who could spend the most.

      Anonymous

Because guns are cheap. If you're not looking at engraved guns or historic guns, the best of the best for "tactical" type shit is still cheaper than that used Miata. Cheaping out on expensive shit is understandable, cheaping out on cheap shit is sad.

But is it cheaping out, or just buying what fulfills a persons needs? Is someone cheaping out when buying that Security 9 or Glock instead of the H&K or Sphinx? Is it cheaping out when a regular guy buys a Streamlight instead of a Surefire? What about getting a Holosun instead of an Aimpoint? I think a lot of people have lost sight of what guns and gear would adequately satisfy most peoples' needs and instead insist that the top dollar stuff is the minimum requirement.

          Anonymous

To everything but the Glock, yes. The best available options are not expensive enough to justify budget alternatives. Glock doesn't apply because it IS the best available option.

            Anonymous

We might have to agree to disagree, but I see what you mean. For example, I don't understand why people would spend $400 for a knockoff Gen 3 Glock when they can just spend $600 for the real deal. Or, alternatively, they can spend that $400 on an APX or similar gun. For other things, I can understand the budget alternatives. My bedside gun has a TLR 1 on it and I paid $120 for it. I've fired maybe 400 rounds with it on the gun, but the purpose of the WML was just to be for home defense. It works fine and I saved money from buying a $320 X300. Is the X300 better than the TLR? Probably, but would it make a difference in my use case? No. Then there's pistol optics. I've spent a while shooting with blacked out rears and a red or yellow front sight, and I do well with that setup to the point that I don't feel the need to mill my guns and buy red dots. But whenever I say that, out come the "lol poor" remarks because I don't buy a thing that doesn't fit my needs. Especially when the milling+red dot would be $700. Why would I spend $700 if it doesn't benefit me?

I'm into cars too and I think miatas are cope for people that can't afford to race porsche and the ferrari guys think porsches are cope for those of us who don't buy ferrari. At least in the gun world the people getting shit on for being poor truly are poor. Someone running miatas on the weekends because they can't justify dropping well into six figures on their hobby probably isn't poor but someone who scrapes to afford the taurus and didn't save a little longer to buy a $1200-1500 HK likely is. Same with the guy building an anderson AR because $2000 for a DD was totally out of reach. For a skilled worker (not just talking techies and those with degrees, that's skilled trades) that's a week or less pay, if you can't save to get there over time then either you are poor or you have zero impulse control and bought garbage because you weren't willing to wait a short period of time to save (or even put it on a credit card because again - poor; no credit or maxed out credit as evidence).

Sorry for attaching a question to your question, but what would you recommend as a 1st time motorcycle/scooter/etc? I'm interested in getting my motorcycle license this year and would like something with some storage space for errands, going to the range and general usage.

        Anonymous

You can say I'm a poorgay whining, but you sound like exactly the douchebag I'm describing. Firstly, your cost estimate for a HK is about $300-500 off. I carry a P2000sk with Trijicon HD sights on it (all bought new) with a 15 round mag in my pocket, and all that is still less than $1000. But do I pretend like my gun is superior to a Glock 26 or a S&W? No. It's just what I like and what I felt fit my needs. If I had to buy an AR, I would probably get the Anderson because I don't give two shits about ARs and wouldn't spend much on one beyond the bare minimum to experience what the rifle is like. Again, I would pay what fits my needs.

That entirely depends on your personal situation. I bought a KLR 650 for my first motorcycle and I haven't found myself wanting anything different. But I live out in the sticks so I wanted something that could go off road. It might be a bit tall, but it can fit a whole load of camping gear on it. Sorry, but I'm not the best person to really ask for recommendations because I haven't ridden a lot of bikes. If you're looking for cargo space, just make sure what you're looking at has enough space behind you on the seat and has available cargo boxes/bags.

I don't recall what my stainless USP-C cost because I've had it as my main carry for close to 20 years. My P7 and Mk23 both cost significantly more than the range I gave but I don't recall what I paid for each. • 1 year ago

Unironically lrn2sew. Get some thread from JoAnn's or a craft store, something not garbage (eg. Gutermann), and get some needles from there as well. You'll obviously need fabric to make the straps holding on the buckles anyways so you're already probably going to need to make a trip; you don't even have the fabric glue either. It will also at least be reversible then, not to mention also able to be re-arranged if a buckle is an inch or two off of where it would be more comfortable.

Get a decent sized needle but don't go too thick. Get an assorted pack like this and be damn sure to get a metal thimble. One that fits your pointer and one that fits your thumb. If the fabric is thick enough (eg. at the edges where it's folded over) you will thank me as it's fricking hard to push that needle sometimes even if you pinch it and push. If it's really thick pain-in-the-ass fabric, I've used pliers to twist it and shove the needle (not from the back of the needle or you may snap it, close to the fabric) or yank it out of a particularly sticky area. Don't get really cheap (eg. dollar pack grocery store) needles that you can see flashing/overspill in the eye or the sharp edge will cut your thread as you sew. Don't cheap out on the thread or it will break for no reason all the time.

Sewing is cheap; should cost you probably $20. And Gutermann makes a hell of a lot of colors of thread so you can bring your chinese mag pouch to JoAnn's and hold the thread up to the Gutermann display (near the fabric cutting counter, in the middle of the store for me). Just be sure to fold in the edges of your fabric to prevent it from fraying unless you use nylon straps (which is probably what you should use) in which case remember to melt the edges with a lighter to prevent them from unwraveling/unweaving.

I don't see why it wouldn't; IIRC if Atlantic sells it they offer mag pinning services at a cost of like $5-15 a mag or something and would probably do it with mags included with a gun. Horrifyingly, they offer it on all their mags, even the collectible ones like chinese flatbacks, bakelite, and slabsides. So assuming Atlantic sells it, they'll pin that shit for you.

I have a Savage 64 I'm trying to make into tactical cancer and a cheap surplus M16 grip. How can I make it into a forward grip like this without drilling? The sling swivel is already taken by the bipod, so I can't mount it to that. Some sort of really strong adhesive?

      Anonymous

Look up how "bitch" FALs were attached. But why without drilling? A grip would be really hard to attach otherwise and I'd be concerned that JB Weld (as ugly and strong as it is) might just delaminate and pull clean off. I'd probably drill a hole where the grip bolt would go and put a hardware store nut on the other side (barrel channel side), but it may require drilling and cutting a hole for the nut and JB Welding it in place as not to contact the barrel. Then I'd be worried it might turn/spin under twisting force, so maybe add a little block JB Welded on the stock where the grip gap (top) goes so it can't twist.

        Anonymous

I'd just rather not drill anything on the gun, even if a replacement stock is relatively cheap

          Anonymous

JB weld or any epoxy/glue is going to be non-removable though. I hesitantly will recommend some kind of barrel band thing as a solution. Get a hose clamp and drill a hole where the red circle is (may be difficult) and get a nut and short bolt (about the size of a normal AR15 grip bolt but a hair shorter). Put the nut against the stock (underside) and tighten the hose clamp down so it holds the nut in place. Then put the gun upside-down and put the grip on it with the bolt in it and get the bolt to line up, then screw it in.
I'm sure Harbor Freight sells a hex socket head bolt and nut assortment. I'd also recommend putting padding against your barrel to prevent scratching. Something like a piece of bicycle innertube (which your local bike shop may be happy to give you because used tires and tubes cost money to get rid of).

But really, find a beater cheap ass stock for your gun and do unholy things to that instead of your normal stock; it's absolutely liberating.

Also, it appears (and some ARFCommers have mentioned) that it seems they sawed off the top of the grip and sand them to match the contour of the bottom of the gun. Obviously wouldn't want to do that with a real deal surplus grip though.

            Anonymous

Pretty sure it is real, but I got it for 3 bucks at a gun show

Whoops, looks like you're still not getting away scott free as the grip needs to be modified:
            >The grip hole was enlarged with a 5/16" drill. A socket head cap screw was inserted from the grip side and threaded into the T nut

I'm fine with drilling the grip

          Anonymous

And the nut seems to be able to be replaced with a T-Nut, so you could easily use it in the same place instead of (no innuendo intended) the hose clamp going around a fat nut adding an unwanted gap. You'd have a lot less wobble.

      Anonymous

Fricking how? How many rounds do you have through it? Also I might recommend throwing Battlefield Las Vegas an email and see how they weld theirs. They took their WASRs and shot them until they cracked...and then welded them and kept shooting them. And again. He said they TIG theirs when they look like this and get them back running. Where the crack is depends on how fricked you are though, and I have to wonder if it wouldn't just be cheaper replacing the receiver for someone who doesn't have access to a TIG welder and has to pay a gunsmith,

Try to look for local language sites operated by boomers, nothing in English. For an example there are a couple of Swedish language sites selling wool uniforms that go for at least five times their price if you look at English speaking sites. You might have to look up local auction sites if you're looking for something very specific. To get you started here's the Swedish crown bailiff net auction that sells all kind of shit https://auktion.kronofogden.se/auk/w.ObjectList?inC=KFM&inA=WEB however they recently changed their bidding policy so I'm not sure if you can bid on a foreign ID. Might have to get an intermediary.

I'm not an engraver but it seems like checkering guys just get chunks of somewhat decent wood and practice. Do the same but for engraving: get similar grades of steel to ones used in firearms and get practicing (thick-ish sheet steel probably most cost effective for surface area). I'll give you this dude's video because I've watched him in the past: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cN8l1cPJy98

I'd also look at other metals, though. Might be easier starting out to engrave aluminum or brass; who could say?

      Anonymous

It seems he engraved brass in that video but yes you can do steel too. REMEMBER TO USE NON-MARRING VISE JAW COVERS. And remember to check whether they've gotten junk (sand, dirt, metal chips) crushed into their faces before use or else your nice slide may just be scratched to shit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2mWvozSdvE

It is for the cam pin on the bolt/carrier. Just needs a relief area so it doesn't crash into the upper when it rotates.

I was going to use some fabric glue to add some buckles to my chinese mag satchel. Does it matter what kind of fabric glue IU get or is it all the same?

There's no pleasing Hypebeasts. They'll shit on you no matter how much you spend. Buy what you like for the price you're comfortable spending, and as long as it's not badly made junk (which can be cheap, but expensive shit can be trash too) you're good to go. If anyone hates on you for it, they're an insecure manchild and have nothing of value worth listening to.

Now if you get something that has issues and the person is explaining why it's bad other than just going "LOL U R POOR" then that might be worth considering.

I've been obsessed with this edgy picture of french special forces, and I'm trying to find out the uniform they are wearing, especially the hood which I really like.

I can't really help you with the uniform, but I can help you with the context: this was shot partly for a documentary, partly as reference for a movie, in Paris sewers, where this unit regularly trains.

I'm not seeing anything special about it though, they're wearing dry suits, but isn't that just a hoodie the wear on top? Is it like a special hoodie?

        Anonymous

Thanks for the response. Some autistic guy on reddit tracked down the exact location, they are not exactly in the Paris sewers, but in Montauban. Funnily enough I'm very familiar with Paris sewers and technical galleries.
I just love how they look, and I'm trying to obtain what they are wearing. It might just be a hoodie on top of their dry suit, but I really like the form. Honestly I just want to grab all of their kit and LARP in my Capital tunnels.

According to Wikipedia the Finnish defense forces has 280,000 people in reserve.
Is that like U.S. military reserves where they serve a day or three out of the month or is it something else entirely?

      Anonymous

I'm gonna take a guess and assume that it means people who have done their mandatory conscription and is in the roster.

      Anonymous

That 280k is just the paper strenght for the war. There's 900k reservists and they have 1-2 week rehersals once, twice, trice in a year, or one every 2 years, it's not really that public info or "announced in the church", but when there is a major exersice, there is also the reservist component along with the conscripts. Also there are local units, Province Coy's, that have their own exersices and National Defence Association has courses for intrested reservists, where they train TCCC, shooting, anti tank stuff, map and compass, SERE etc.

Last year alone 50k reservists took part in exersices and 20k conscripts got their military passport. This year more and more reservists are going to be called for exercises, even those 50yo guys that served around 80's-90's and might not have seen the RK62 since the 00's.

Reserve officers are in the active reserves until they turn 60 (soon 65). The rank and file and reserve NCO's until they turn 50 (soon 55), after that they are in the backup reserves until they turn 60. By law every male citizen is liable for military service from 18 to 60. Also every citizen has, by the Finnish constitution, national defense duty. That is to aid the civil defence, fire brigades, police, hospitals etc. to save lives and work in factories, in construction etc. to aid the war effort. So no one sits the war out, when it comes.

After that 900k there are the "nostoväki", the (male) people that haven't got the military training and have the C-papers. They are mostly exempted from service by medical or other reasons during the peace time. Those are like diabetics, amputees, drug users, back problems, mentally iffy people like heavy depression, schitzo etc. Out of these C-men you might be able to muster soldiers for supply units, comms units or for light construction duty in engineer units, what ever they might be able to do and what the military needs.

Why do people worry about a few ounces of weight on their rifles? I can understand a pound making a difference but not an ounce or two. Do these people not workout?

      Anonymous

It's mostly the old adage "ounces are pounds, pounds are pain." If you don't worry about the ounces they start becoming pounds. Some people definitely take it too far. It's also about the balance of the rifle, a few ounces in the front can make it significantly harder to keep a point of aim over time.

      Anonymous

Its more of a philosophy, sure it doesn't matter if your rifle is 7lbs 5oz or 7lbs 8oz but if you cut what weight you can, you can wind up with a 6lb rifle after sling, optic, and light, and if you let a few ounces slide here and there you'll wind up with a 9lb rifle.

    Writergay here.

if somehow humanity continues to exist and proliferate through the universe in the next trillion years, is there any way to guess what the frick small arms are going to be like THAT far into the future?

I imagine any human cultures that exist throughout the universe will evolve independently of one another and create different kinds of weapons but the ultimate functionality of weapons would be somewhat convergent, no?

Like how ancient people independently invented the pyramid because it's such an obvious solution for the problem of "stack things up good so they don't fall down," there must be some kind of commonality between super-future weapons.

There's no way small arms would just nuke a whole galaxy, nobody would make that.

      Anonymous

      >is there any way to guess what the frick small arms are going to be like THAT far into the future?
Nope. We've pretty much gotten smokeless powder figured out at this point, most of the progress now is in optics and really marginal improvements. Its hard to say what the next big breakthrough is going to be, or if its even going to happen. There's a company making functional railguns but they're still really shitty compared to normal guns. High powered lasers are feasible but still, its really hard to beat the amount of energy contained in smokeless powder.

That being said the idea of coming across aliens armed with AR18 derivatives and tilting barrel polymer framed handguns is really amusing to me.

    >1. Cmmg drop in conversion kit
    >2. .22 cal upper
    >3. 10/22
    Advantages
    >1. Cheapest, comes with 3 mags
    >2. dedicated upper designed ground up for 22
    >3. Known good rifle designed ground up for 22. Also shares mags with my little bolt gun. Good mag availability
    Disadvantages
    >1. Proprietary mags, probably requires more tuning
    >2. Most expensive, will need mag adapters
    >3. Basic b***h 10/22. Lots of upgrade options but it'd end up adding up to dedicated AR pricing long term
    Cost
    >1. 180 + tax/shipping
    >2. 400 (adding two mags) + tax/shipping
    >3. 299.99 + tax

    Any thoughts?

Fwiw, the last time I went to the range, I put tape on the mags that acted differently than the others. Packing up for another range day, I saw the taped mags but forgot if that meant good or bad.

Why serialize them? That sounds excessive. And if you're autistic enough, once you do "1, 2, 3" you're going to go nuts when you find one better than 3 but not 2 and have to reorganize your numbering.

Go to menards or home depot or whatever and get the multicolored pack of electrical tape and put a wrap around them to identify. They have green and red and yellow and others. Figure it out from there how you want to do it.

Promise this isn't a fedpost I'm just a eurogay moving to the States for gun rights soon-TM.
So with the ATF noting specifically that braced pistols that are amnestied into SBRs within the 120 day Form 1 period unless they are Self-Manufactured don't require normal NFA markings on the firearm... doesn't this mean that SBRs are now pretty much defacto non-enforceable at this point in the US?
I'd normally say hurr durrr can't wait for the NFA to get repealed with the current state of the composition of the Government making an amendment like they did for 16" rifle barrels to SBRs won't be done, unless done by the Courts or a 2nd Trump victory/triple crown are NFA SBRs anyway just in legal limbo now?
Honestly reminds me I can't wait until they remove suppressors from the NFA too. Out of all the downsides to being in Europe, near zero restrictions on suppressors is nice.

      Anonymous

they already were non enforceable, you could just buy all the parts for a short upper receiver setup with no regulations. That's one of many reasons why this is such a huge shitshow

        Anonymous

Well I know buttstocks aren't regulated items, I mean more so before you could be questioned by a Statie or a Local officer/sherrif for why NFA markings aren't on your reciever or etc.
Now I know the normal excuse is
        >Well Officer I forgot my Stamp at home
        or
        >Well I'm driving to go to my FFL now whilst the stamp is being processed.
To well now, the ATF is basically fricking itself now that anyone can just say
        >Yep it's legal
        >Totally registered it in the 120 period
        >Doesn't need markings get fricked
        That's why I'm saying now it's unenforceable.
My hope now is that the key NFA items get revoked as they're outright unconstitutional.

Best folding stock for a VZ58? I got this galil-style folder that slides on, but I can't access the set screw once it's on so it's liable to just fricking slide off. Is grabbing an original folder worth the monies?

Is an 18.5 inch long barrel shotgun enough for hunting boars?

what's the closest thing to this that I can buy irl? aka a semi-auto 12 gauge with a detachable magazine that doesn't look like an AR. I don't mind if it looks tacticool but AR shotguns are ugly

It's probably going to be Turkshit unfortunately. Here's Black Aces with one that takes Saiga 12ga mags (and drums).

Just do research on how good Black Aces is; I know some Turkish shotguns can be shit. I THINK Black Aces is higher up there, though, but I may be wrong. Watch some reviews that aren't paid for by Black Aces or their importer. I wouldn't be using it for self defense/innawoods but fun at the range would be fine for sure.

And it's probably compatible with Remington 870, Mossberg, or some other common shotgun stock. Can't find out if it is though.

I've never seen or heard of this before, but this is the bottom of a 10-12 year old BCG and I noticed something while cleaning it. Is this a crack? Because it sure as hell looks like one. It's not all the way through.

Sure looks like it, doesn't it? But a BCG in what? AR? AK? CETME? G3? I can barely tell what I'm looking at.

AR-15 BCG. Bottom. I can't imagine what would cause it, especially in that orientation so it's making me second guess myself.

Funny thing is the first result I looked up for cracked ar15 bcg everyone said "but ar15 bolt carriers don't crack!" and "only if the gun kabooms!" yet here is a cracked BCG. I'd love to see School of the American Rifle (SOTAR) take a look at that one and try to explain it!

Yeah there is absolutely nothing to compare it to online as far as I can tell. I got a decade of service and an indeterminate round count out of it so I can't complain but not even the bolt failed. I feel special and confused.

It would fill a hole in my safe... Sadly I live in a cuck state and will need to find a way to get my hands on one without a 10+ round magazine shipping with it.

They make 10 round mags too
They also make a version that takes Glock 17 mags
I CCW this with a shoulder holster and a Members Only jacket

            >They also make a version that takes Glock 17 mags
This is the version I would want since I already have compatible mags, but it's my understanding there are no 10 round glock 17 mag versions for sale.

Atlantic Firearms will pin your mags for a small fee but IDK if they sell that gun.

...no? "Pinned" does not mean what you think it means. Or maybe I should say "riveted".

If you don't have an HD longarm, shotty. If you do, whatever makes you the happiest or whichever you can get a good deal on.

Is an 18.5 inch long barrel shotgun enough for hunting boars?

yes, you hardly gain velocity with most 12 gauge above that and having a longer barrel is more for directing sound away from the shooter.

Is having a QD on a bipod actually useful? It's like an extra $50 on an Atlas and it seems like I'd just mount it once and leave it there. But for those of you with QD bipods, do you ever actually use the QD for anything but switching it between rifles?

If you're making a precision long range gun, nah. If its a DMR or SHTF rifle that can also be shot from a bipod if the situation calls for it, definitely go QD
      >t. put an MLOK magpul bipod on my DMR and regret it every time I think about it.

Does anyone know what the hell this holster is for? Doesn't fit a Mauser C96, and with a 1911, there's tons of space in front of the trigger guard. The retaining strap leaves a shit ton of room in the back, which makes me think it's for a machine pistol.
Next to a P38 for scale.

Setting up mostly as DMR with a toe over each line for battle rifle activities and light PRS. So I'll do the QD.
