What the hell is a "half-rifled barrel"? I've heard that in relation to gun laws and google's being uncommonly unhelpful. Is it some rudimentary type of rifling, or rifling just a part of the barrel (which)?

      I think it's a Russian idea?

I read an old forum post about dueling pistols that one nefarious bastard had a pair of special made flintlock pistols, one of which had a mechanism to active a hair trigger, in addition to a barrel that was rifled half way from the breech, (so you would think it was a smooth bore from casual inspection), while the other of the pair, seemingly identical from the ourside, was just an ordinary pistol.

      Anonymous

I've heard of partial rifling where rifling only begins halfway down the barrel or so. I think it was a niche thing for rifled shotguns to not throw patterns as wide. It's also a thing in russia to make legal shotguns with a "permanent rifled choke" that extends 6-12 inches from the muzzle (iirc) firing necked up military cartridges to take advantage of the easier gun laws around shotguns. Obviously the less rifling the more likely it won't stabilize.
There's also the somewhat related shallow rifling that the taurus judge uses so it fires both shotshell and .45lc inaccurately.

Has anyone ever bought and shot FedArm before? Good or shit? I've heard of them but never really looked closely at their ammo before. Says:
    >This ammunition is manufactured in the USA and made from excess military stock soviet headstamp steel casings with classic polished copper-washed plating. This ammo is 124 grain, steel cased with new non corrosive Berdan primers.
Which I've never even read about before now. Is this some sort of workaround for the ammo import ban that happened recently or what? I feel like I haven't seen any copper washed x39 that wasn't surplus. Still bimetal bullet, too. $171.49 for 500 so $0.357/rd for future reference. Oddly enough, their cases have "7.62x39" stamped on the side of them just like a lot of commercial Russian ammunition sold only in Russia.

    >do I need a carry permit to carry between constitutional carry states
In almost all cases, no. A couple exceptions would be if one of the "constitutional carry" states only allows such for residents and you are not a resident of that state or if the carry weapon is not allowed to cross the state line. For the latter that could come into play if your carry weapon is subject to NFA title II (rare but maybe you carry an AOW or something) in which case you'd need to file with the ATF before crossing state lines with it or if the state you are entering otherwise restricts your carry weapon (i.e. restrictions on standard capacity magazines, although I don't know if any CC state has mag bans, seems weird if they do but check).

do I need a carry permit to legally bring my carry gun across state lines if both states have constitutional carry?

also, keep in mind that every state has its own restrictions on where CC is allowed (ironic I know). You may still be breaking state laws if you carry into bars, sports stadiums, school property (including outdoor fields and such), or any number of other places. Manner of carry (open/concealed/official holster) and type of firearm (long guns allowed?) can also vary state to state. You'll need to read up on the states' individual laws regarding CC, don't just assume it means any weapon carried in any way in any place.

      >SAR-M7F
They're great guns, don't know what the ammo availability is like for 5.45 in Europe or what market value is for one there, but in the states 900 would be a steal due to our homosexual import laws. Arsenal is pretty much as good as factory built AKs get.

What would be a good medic "extra" bag/strapped to you setup for taking care of a fireteam? I'm curious as to how much of the usual stuff you'd want per person assuming they have IFAKs themselves.

      Anonymous

If you don't know what to put then you probably aren't trained to use it. Basic stuff would be extra bleed control equipment, chest seal, good trauma shears, various meds, a good splint, immobilizing collar if you can handle the bulk, various airway tubes, decompression needle. The last two I'd be iffy on unless you had training to identify when to use them but the others should be a decent supplement. Might as well pack a solid first aid kit as well since if their ifaks are worth anything they won't have stuff for boo boos.

      https://i.imgur.com/IZCYdwi.jpg

How resilient are wheeled APC's and MRAP's against tire punctures? I'm talking like nails and shit in the road. Are the tires thick enough to where that shit doesn't even penetrate deep enough to cause a puncture? Or would that shit slowly over time deflate the tires?

They have run flats where an insert inside so the tires can still support the vehicle if the tire is popped. It doesn't work as well as inflated and usually limits speed but it'll still drive.

        Anonymous

I have basic EMS training from fire fighter first responders, various medical training from jobs and emergency preparedness/outdoor groups and have cpr/stop the bleed courses done, Its not what, its how much of each I should have, because my default was going to be basically just having 3-5 extra IFAKs on me in stuff

          Anonymous

Use your judgement but definitely no more than a couple extra tourniquets then load up on stuff you would use multiples of per person like the pressure dressing gauze and hemostatic dressing. I'd still consider carrying some supplemental stuff too because it enables treatment of more conditions rather than fitting a few extra dressings just in case you all run out.

I've got plans on having some splint rolls on me too and some ABD pads for traumatic injuries. Blue force also has some minimalist TQ holders that I may pick up for some extra TQs on hand outside of pouches.

I accidentally melted my gun bag with the hot barrel of my AR15. The plastic has fused onto the barrel from being so hot. Anyone got a way to get it off aside from just shooting the gun enough for it to melt?
    t. moronic moron

      Anonymous

Acetone? It melts ABS, nylon, etc. It will require a soak, so remove any plastic furniture and get a paper towel sopping. Lay it over the barrel. Do not do this on a wood table that has been finished. Do not do this on a painted surface. Acetone will melt wood finish, paint, and potentially plastic cloths. From there, scrape it off somehow; not sure how you wouldn't scratch it with a metal scraper unless you're really careful...

Only other idea is to use Goo Gone and soak the frick out of it (drip on) to hope it somehow releases.

I want a travel gun that is more substantial than a pistol but can still be concealed in a non-gun bag. My prior solution to this was an AR9 pistol but the whole brace thing makes me think its a bad idea to rely on a braced pistol for shooting bad guys, at least for the time being. I also want to avoid NFA shit because this is a travel gun that is going to be carried almost exclusively while crossing state lines. I'm not inherently against the concept of a takedown gun but the less assembly I have to do after it comes out of the bag, the better.

Is there a better option than a sub2000?

      >My prior solution to this was an AR9 pistol but the whole brace thing makes me think its a bad idea to rely on a braced pistol

What's the legality of concealing a loaded rifle in those states, though? In my gay state, you can't have loaded rifles in vehicles at all even if you're a licensed conceal carrier AFAIK. You also can't conceal loaded rifles AFAIK; only "concealed" allowed is to and from a range, hunting, gunsmith, etc. while unloaded with ammo separate.

        >takedown AR
A 14.5 P&W upper is still like 26" long, and an AK with a 16" barrel isn't any shorter. Its a pretty tall order to have a normal looking bag that will fit that without carrying a giant duffle or suitcase.
Hell, neither get close to fitting into a standard carry on bag with a height of 22"

Its more of a paranoid to-be-used-when-SHTF thing, I was out of state without a gun when the COVID scare hit, I remember that my cell service was bad and every time my phone could refresh the DOW had dropped another 2k points. Luckily that turned out to be nothing and no one needed to pop the tops off of their pmags.
Since then I feel a lot better if I at least have something more capable than a little CC gun available should the need arise, even if I have to get it out of the trunk and load a mag.

My whole life is a lie. I hide the fact I don't go to college. I hide the fact I own guns. I hide the best and worst parts of me. I can't tell my family how much I love them because I feel like it'll look fake. I cant tell my grandma the good things I do because my brothers always get resentful if I do anything virtuous. I can't tell my family how I really feel about things because I'm often in disagreement or my own perspective on myself is pessimistic and they would get down. Everything I do and say is a fricking lie, and I often don't do or say anything because I know I'm going to have to lie about it, and maintaining a lie is exhausting. The worst part: it's all my fault but I still can't fix it.

YW. Also I can't seem to find it but you reminded me that once funny enough there was a legit Turk brand I once came across that left their site half default. Social media links that just lead back to homepage. A location/info page that had an address somewhere in the US, totally default. Blog page that was all lorem ipsum. Not always an indicator but on big MFGs like Taurus it no doubt is.

          Anonymous

FFS nevermind I thought I remembered it as just turks being turks. Scratch that, always an indicator. I had misremembered which is why I no doubt didn't save a picture; probably realized it was a scam site back then and forgot until I tried to search for it. Seems Citadel (if that's anything more than some importer's brand name) doesn't have a site. First result for them is legacy sports, who is probably the importer ordering them and having the name laser engraved before import. The rest are scam sites; I just went through the one I was thinking of and the payment options were Zelle, Bitcoin, and Cash App. So yeah, indicators being: weird address listed, links not working (especially to their social media pages), lorem ipsum on random pages, shit that sounds AI written, shit that sounds poorly translated, strangely good prices, ship w/ no FFL, and "pls pay in (anything but credit card)". Of course google doesn't remove these sites from their search results despite them being number 2 through number 5 of their search results at minimum.

Maybe I should test myself for lead because my memory is fricking shit.

Here are just a few of the massive red flags: no physical address listed in footer or contact pages, no phone number listed anywhere on the site, no "about us" page, takes crypto for payment (not all companies that take crypto are scams but almost all scams take crypto), 700+ pages of in stock firearms, prices are stupidly low (below cost). There are a ton of pages set up with manufacturer names in their URLs that are scams. If I'm ordering from someone I don't 100% KNOW is legit I always find the physical address of the place and google it, find out what actually exists there, then use google to find a phone number for that business, NOT WHATEVER PHONE NUMBER IS ON THEIR PAGE SINCE THOSE ARE OFTEN FAKED TOO. I then call them and verify that the page I'm looking at is theirs. That will prevent you from being taken by MOST scammers but still not all (google Chris Eustice some time and go down that rabbit hole to find out about a USA based - seems rare, most sites I see that are scams seem to be ESL "kindly" sites - scam that was based in Houston, TX). Don't fall for things because one obscure site has something you can't find elsewhere or has a crazy low price. Good luck

How resilient are wheeled APC's and MRAP's against tire punctures? I'm talking like nails and shit in the road. Are the tires thick enough to where that shit doesn't even penetrate deep enough to cause a puncture? Or would that shit slowly over time deflate the tires?

      Anonymous

They're typical tires anon. Some stuff you can put on a light truck (37" diameter Goodyear MTs if I remember right) on the HMMWV or medium duty truck tires for the MRAP. Modern wheeled military vehicles typically have both CTIS (central tire inflation system) and run flats (inserts inside the tire either one piece synthetic or multi-pieces metal and synthetic that hold the vehicle up if the tires lose pressure). CTIS isn't meant to keep up with a massive blowout, it's intended to raise and lower pressure for traction purposes, but can hold up against a slow leak by a nail or whatnot.

That's what I thought but it's sold as "other" so I don't know if it's manufactured in a certain where it can't for legal reasons.

          >it's sold as "other"
its sold as other because its isnt the combo that comes with stock and separate pistol grip in the box. legally it is not a shotgun. its like a shockwave and early shockwaves were based on finding that specific model and cutting them down. other is not the same as any other weapon. other is a checkbox on the 4473. for stuff like stripped receivers or whatever doesnt qualify as handgun or longgun.
anyways you can put a stock on those if you feel like it.

            Anonymous

I didn't know they were sold under the same category as shockwaves, being above the legal barrel length and all. I'd assume you wouldn't have to register it as an SBS if you put a stock on it, unlike the shockwave

Actually it seems the middle link is a clone of the real one, which is the bottom link. The bottom link has no way of buying anything but the middle link clones the layout but changes the look. Top is fake too. The bottom link leads to legacysports for social media and buying accessories, making me pretty sure legacysports imports them with their own special fake totally-not-Turkish brand laser engraved on them.

Basically put something in your cart and look for a moronic payment method. The first two have the same "payment" screen nearly exactly and I don't doubt they're reused for other sites like the fake Taurus.

Got one of those Italian ceramic plates from Sportsman's Guide, the ones they label as UHMWPE. How can I tell which side to put to my body? It's the back plate, so it's flat. Also, it thankfully has no fraying or cracking, but I was wondering if I should wrap it in something like duct tape or some other kind of covering to protect it from abrasion and other general wear and tear while it's in my vest

Hey I've got an odd question: how come they don't make holsters or like little clips for pocket pistols that cap (like cover) the muzzle with a patch of Kevlar? Obviously if you ND'd you'd still get hurt when the cap disconnected but nothing compared to getting an actual bullet in you.

They make all kinds of kevlar novelty products, kevlar underwear, Kevlar wallets, why not this?

      Anonymous

It may not do much and still be comfortable when the kevlar is shot from point blank. If you made it thicker, yeah, but it's still a problem that can be fixed by simple training and paying attention

        Anonymous

Well I cant imagine it would have to be thicker than normal panels to stop whatever's coming out of a compact pistol. It's not that I want it, I'm just surprised no one's gone for it as a gimmick, but they do Kevlar wallets and junk.

because people live in a world where gun negligence doesn't happen so they mock failsafes and would say
      >why don't you just not shoot your holster
even though it happens and would be a sensible safety measure for little cost. Just do a iiia patch at the muzzle or maybe a ceramic disc so it powders to disperse the energy better with kevlar outside layers extending from the tip up into the body of the holster to keep it in place. At the very worst the bullet and holster shoot into your leg with less force and the crud on it gives you an infection. Honestly this sounds like a great idea for holsters to use when practicing fast draws cause people shoot their leg all the time doing that but they'd also be afraid of being made fun of for "expecting to have a nice day."

I've been thinking of getting a Trapdoor Springfield, but I've heard that modern .45-70 ammo is bad for the action and can actually break it. Does anyone have any insight?

.45-70 is weird because it has basically two pressure ranges available. There's the original black powder equivalent SAAMI loads topping out at 28k psi and then there's modern pissin hot+ elephant exploder loads that will near double that at 50k. You just have to be careful with what you load into it because there's a massive range in available pressures and the trapdoor is not a strong action.

      Anonymous

that's not how kevlar works to prevent bullet penetration. It's not just that there happens to be kevlar sitting in the way of the bullet, the entire vest (or blanket/panel/whatever) works together as a system. It's basically like a big net, the bullet doesn't penetrate the specific point it hits but then the rest of the vest absorbs the energy of the bullet to stop it's forward travel as the fibers are pulled against one another. If all you have is a little patch in front of the bullet that just means that the patch is going to get shot into you with the bullet.

I don't see why it wouldn't work compared to a bulkier open carry holster. Market would be the paranoid and those interested in practicing fast draws. Added cost of making it from kevlar and sourcing ceramics would make it costlier but not premium.

        Anonymous

handle an actual kevlar vest some time. the holster would be thickness of the gun itself or more. You want to try and shove that in your waistband? The weight and thickness would absolutely suck for carrying. That little ceramic button is doing nothing by the way, still exerting nearly the same pressure on the kevlar behind it.

I've been thinking of getting a Trapdoor Springfield, but I've heard that modern .45-70 ammo is bad for the action and can actually break it. Does anyone have any insight?

45-70 was originally a black powder cartridge consisting of a .45 caliber bullet backed by 70 grains of BP, and old trapdoors were made to handle that. Modern smokeless 45-70 ranges from powderpuff cowboy-action loads to shit meant for killing large dangerous game.
A modern reproduction will be made of much higher quality metal than the originals and can stand up to lighter loads all day and will probably survive a few hot loads, although I really wouldn't recommend that, as the action is mechanically weaker than a lot of more modern designs. Modern smokeless powder loads, unless they are specifically meant to replicate black powder pressures (and even then I wouldn't make a hobby out of it), should not be shot in an original gun. You can still load black powder cartridges, but if your asking, you probably don't want that commitment.
As for the trapdoor itself, they have a really smooth action. After putting a few rounds through an original I see why the US Army was resistant to adopt repeaters early on, it is really slick for a single shot.

Depends on how comfortable you are with rolling the dice on having an illegal gun. Ig you could always SBR it before the deadline if it became clear that the ruling isn't going to be overturned. I'm waiting, personally.

Of course, I would keep the sights, but I have no idea what scope to get. I usually hunt at 100-300m ranges

At those distances a magnified optic is going to be a big help. If there's a chance you'd be hunting inside of 50m or so then I'd go with something around the 1-6 or 2-7 range, if there isn't then you can get more magnification. You can make shots at 300m without magnification on the range, but when you are shooting at something that is to some degree camouflaged and trying to get a good hit on the first round, it helps a lot. Primary Arms, Vortex, Leupold, and Trijicon have some good offerings, as well as a few others. I have no idea what is available where you are eurofren.

I take that back, its pretty terrible advice, its kind of psuedo legal right now to own a brace but I'm pretty sure you'd be manufacturing an SBR by getting a brace now. There'd be a bad looking paper trail, and the ATF has taken precautions against people getting around the 200 dollar stamp by SBRing everything in the meantime, you aren't aupposed to be buying braces rn. I'd really suggest SBRing your gun first and getting a stock or waiting it out.

Any scenario which you might need to shoot more than 18 rounds. If you aren't carrying the gun or already have it drawn, there isn't really a disadvantage to having the extra ammo on tap and its cheap insurance in something like an HD gun when your reload is already in your gun.

Is the 92fs a good pistol? I've always wanted one. But everyone I know says they're shit tier. All the people I know that say they are shit are either former milgays or had parents or other family that were in the military in the 80's-2000's and have negative experiences. Also "muh .45 stoppin' powah!"

      It's fine.
Military adopted them quite a while ago and there was some controversy about it at the time, with the Sig 226 being theoretically better but the 92 being good enough and cheaper.

Turns out when used well beyond the originally intended service life like almost all US small arms end up doing, they get worn out and need parts replaced such as the slide. The 92 isn't unique in this since even old 1911s had a program for refurbishment that included new replacement slides when needed, so it's really nothing new under the sun.

Either way if you buy a new one you will never shoot it enough to break it.
      >Muh 45
Use hollow points for defense and enjoy the superior magazine capacity.

Only other cons I can think of is the DA/SA trigger requiring a bit more practice. It's not as nice as a 1911 SA trigger and you are meant to carry it dewienered, so get good with that first DA shot followed by an SA trigger pull. Best way is to do double tap drills while dewienering the hammer between each. It's hard, but eventually both bullets will land roughly near each other.
I'm also not too crazy about slide mounted safeties, but that's me. Not a deal breaker but not ideal.

It kinda sounds like you're begging the question here but I'll bite anyway. First off, most military issue pistols have been beaten to frick and gone, then rebuilt several times over their lifespan. The vast majority of them weren't cared for by one dude who had to rely on it to save his liver personally, they were used by guys on MP duty who pulled one from the armory, carried it for a watch, and returned it. Those guns spent multiple shifts every day rain, snow, or shine sitting in a holster and exposed to the elements. Second, the 92 has a very "snappy" feeling to the recoil because of the way it's built, which some people absolutely hate. I prefer smoother recoil and a lower bore axis, my brother in law loves the way the 92 fits in his hand and doesn't give a shit. Then it has an open-topped slide that makes the gun more liable to get gunked up in use than some other designs.
And of course there's an equally vocal group of people on the other side of the MUHNINTEENELEVUN divide who hate it because it's still a heavy, full-frame metal pistol and not a compact poly-frame.

Outside of fun and all that jazz, do the 30 round pistol magazines like in a glock or similar fireams have any practical application?

PCCs, for one. The guy who runs the convenience store down the street has had a couple run-ins with large groups trying to rob him and finally just started open-carrying his gun with a 30-rounder in a neon pink holster because it intimidated people more than packing a standard glock in a black one. Not sure if that's applicable for 99% of people but whatever.

      They aren't smart
      [...]
Any scenario which you might need to shoot more than 18 rounds. If you aren't carrying the gun or already have it drawn, there isn't really a disadvantage to having the extra ammo on tap and its cheap insurance in something like an HD gun when your reload is already in your gun.

      [...]

      >won't have to carry one in your underpants
And this is why I have a 15-rounder for my nightstand 1911. Plus, well, it's still very funny on the range.

With this whole pistol brace thing coming down the pipe, Is the "pork sword" pistol monopod still good to go? I have an ap5, I just need the brace adapter and id be set. I dont wanna drop the money on the adapter and not be able to use it or get v& if i do. I already have the monopod and the ap5 end cap with the pic rail. If worse comes to worst I'll just run a sling and do that stupid push pull bs.

honestly who knows, did it ever receive an actual ruling from the ATF? If it did, was it for your specific configuration? Even then they obviously change their mind at will as that's the whole reason for you asking (braces were ruled legit, now they're not). You can assume the classify it as a brace then go through the scoring worksheet and see if your configuration meets the test or not or you can write to the ATF for a ruling on your specific case or you can just roll the dice and see what happens if you are ever challenged on it.

The pork sword monopod is just that, a monopod. The company that makes it already got a clear from the atf that it isn't a brace. Im just worried that the "brave adapter" that it attaches too would be the thing that is the illegal part.

the new regs don't just apply to braces, they refer to anything with surface area that can be shouldered. ATF is also throwing out previous guidance they've given so having a ruling letter is now worthless. It's all BS but just know that you could get fricked.

That sounds loose af. Pistol monopods have been a thing for a long time, and they never said anything.

Would this mean even changing the end cap and putting a sling swivel on it In general could frick me? Because any ak, ar, or any pistol of that type can be shouldered without a brace and technically can fire even just by resting the end of the firearm against your shoulder. If I cant brace it, I was planning to just do the "push pull" thing with a sling, but this water is murkey as all hell to say the least.

Assuming it takes over 120 days to deny your form 1 (pretty good assumption) you'd technically be in violation when you get denied but the idea that ATF is going to race to your house to try and beat the email notification and raid you, arrest you, and get a conviction... no, that's tin foil hat territory. They'll just inform you that you have to do what they told everyone else to do if they didn't file, take the brace off and destroy it or send it into the ATF, put a 16"+ barrel on it, or surrender the firearm to ATF.

These morons have ruled on this like 3 or 4 times at this point.

                Anonymous

There's a very good chance the lawsuits do something. Current SCOTUS is very supportive of the 2a as written and willing to slap fed agencies for overreach beyond their congressionally defined mandate. This specific rule could get thrown out for a variety of reasons: violating APA, Bruen, being arbitrary and capricious, etc... Or the court could look at this under the perspective of ATF just adding 2-40 million firearms into the classification of SBR and decide that SBRs are now a firearm in common use and therefor unconstitutional for the NFA to regulate. Not the most likely outcome but plausible, even possible. SBSs could be caught in that too. Unlikely that they do anything to DD, AOW, or MGs or invalidate the entire NFA.

                >3 or 4 times
The brief history of this is a couple instrumental private letters, one that approved of an early brace design (in 2012) and one that stated incidental shouldering didn't make something a rifle (in 2014? I think?); some private letters that rejected some approaches as being SBRs (more in line with what they're doing now); an open letter that tried to walk back all the prior private letters (in 2015); proposed rulemaking in 2020 that went to shit because of major APA problems; and now this. I agree that it's bullshit they're invalidating prior rulings but as much as I hate this I can also see the point. They've always stated that private letters are very narrowly scoped (in and of itself kind of bullshit but they've been consistent) and the widely scoped guidance (open letter and rule making) - regardless of their procedural problems - have been in line with the current final rule. The "you said it was fine and now you say it isn't" reasoning isn't likely to get much legal traction. Other strategies like Bruen, APA, common use, etc... are what will result in this getting scrapped.

samegayging myself... where the flipflopping can help is in feeding the argument for the APA violations and to a lessor extent it lends weight to the affected parties (those that bought braced firearms under the understanding that they were handguns)

If the atf was smart, (a stretch i know) they would just make a pistol defiend as a fiream that:
                >has a barrel under 12 (for example) inches
                >feeds from a revolving cylinder / feeds from a magazine INSIDE the grip of the firing hand
                >does not have a stock

These 3 factors is how they should constitute a pistol.

                >what do you do about ak / ar type pistols?
Good question. Either open up a full, 1 year, free grace period to register them as sbrs OR make a new class of fiream for something like that.

that would require an act of congress.

the folly in all of this is trying to make separate rules for "classifications" of small arms when they're essentially all just a spectrum of the same thing. Any time you try and define something there's an example that defies the definition. 12" barrel, what about 16" barrel revolvers? Feed via revolving cylinder or mag in grip, what about single shots? Fix those two problems and it's just a matter of time before someone creates an AR lower that has the grip positioned such that a 9mm mag feeds through it. It's like the various assault weapon bans, identify a handful of mostly cosmetic features they don't like and you get CA and NY compliant monstrosities that run right up to the edge of that definition. Outlaw specific model firearms and someone creates a slight variation with a different name. It's all cope and mental gymnastics to try and limit a fundamental right that shall not be infringed.

How do magazine bans even treat fixed magazines again most answers say you still can't go over the cap but then picrel exists for cali. I guess its not helped by constantly changing laws and probably still illegal but something like an ar with pinner in drum mag with 100 rounds would be neato. Also frick mag prices it's 20 bucks for a 40 but then over a hundred for one of the few 100+ rounders I just want a range toy.

even worse is the overly broad and vague approach they've taken in the final rule. They had that god awful spreadsheet 4999 with the scoring system in the proposed rulemaking but in the final they've thrown it out so now it's kind of like the "we know it when we see it" approach for porn/obscenity. You can't go by objective factors like weight or length since they've thrown in "rifle" examples that include MP5Ks and Glock 17s (not making this up, someone made a stock adapter for a G17 and ATF has one in their inventory so they weighed and measured it). So even though the reference 120 ounces as a reasonable weight test for something being a "rifle" they also give examples of rifles being as little as two pound. Same with lengths, I don't recall the length of an MP5K off the top of my head but they're damn short, there are definitely common high powered revolvers of the type that would benefit from a brace that are longer. In any case, there was already a stayed lawsuit from SAF against the proposed rulemaking that will now go forward and I'm sure others will now jump in (I'm looking at you GOA) referencing the more recent Bruen decision as precedent. Injunctions will happen quickly. If you were hoping for a free stamp I'd file it right away and try to get in before the 5th circuit shuts it down. Long term SCOTUS probably throws the rule out, maybe tosses SBRs and SBSs off the NFA but that's more of a long shot, highly improbable they take the opportunity to throw out the NFA in total, impossible that they shut down the ATF.

Since I move around a lot, I dont feel like having to submit paperwork every time I pcs just to take my things with me when I move with my family and whatnot. At this point I will probably just put a sling loop on the pic rail end cap and just do the SAS push pull. For the time being, that seems legal. But with these buttholes in the atf, who even knows anymore.

I have a strong feeling all this bs is because the atf wasn't generating enough money from sbr stamps anymore.

I've been out for a while and didn't have any NFA stuff when I was in but there are specific rules for active duty, might want to look into that. Not sure if it exempts you having to file a 5320.20 to move stuff but that's possible. Also could look into putting NFA stuff into a Trust (good idea regardless if you get NFA items) and then add a relative to the trust (like a parent or sibling you trust) so you can leave you stuff at their house if needed.

Colt still hasn't gotten it to work well, I wouldn't trust turks for one. 10mm really beats up metal guns and 1911s in particular. There is precisely one 10mm handgun with a length track record of being issued widescale and not beating itself to death and that is the offerings by Glock, although some like the M&P and FK BRNO look like they're probably alright too.
As for their .45s , they probably won't feed holllowpoints or be all that great generally speaking. With 1911s, I'd either get a real budget gun like an RIA or Tisas and accept that its a clone of the old ones that cant feed hollowpoints or step all the way up to something in the SR1911 range that is actually going to be a good reliable gun (not kimber).

CMP is going to be the #1 option. They have functional but rough Rack Grade M1s for $700-850. Or you can spend $1150 on a rebuilt Expert Grade with new stocks and barrels.
      https://thecmp.org/sales-and-service/m1-garand/
Getting set up to order from the CMP is an absolute nightmare but you'll be paying at least 2x for the same thing elsewhere.
Smart move is to order a batch of 3 or 5 rifles (if you can afford it), pick the best of the bunch and resell the rest at a slight profit. Once all said and done you'll have a free M1 and maybe some loose change in your pocket.

Someone might notice I asked the same thing in /arg/ so I may as well out myself now.
Does anyone know if Colt still makes rifles for the Army or if they still have any sort of military contract with the US?
Shop I frequent had a shipment of Colt CR6920s that the owner said were originally intended for the West Point academy, but supposedly a helicopter accident or something in the deaths of some cadets somehow resulted in the shipment being cancelled so the shop owner got his hands on the rifles. I tried looking up any information about West Point and them having accidents in the past year or two to see if I can find any proof to the story- got nothing.
He insists the rifles are/will become collector's pieces due to their origins but everything I can tell about the rifles (or at least ones I've handled) makes them look like your typical current-production CR6920.
There's some small part of me that feels like I'm just being led on, and the shop owner insists that if I buy one I shouldn't be trying to replace anything beyond accessories because it'd diminish the value of the gun.
If manufacture dates provide any clue, I scanned the QR code on the box of one of the rifles, seems that the batch was manufactured early March 2022.

he's full of shit. If he wants to state that the rifles have higher value due to some unusual provenance then he has to provide the documentation of that provenance. Even if the story is true and if for some reason anyone else gave a shit about that story you'd still need the documentation to back up the value if/when you sell it. Otherwise all you have is a generally civilian available rifle, no different than any other Colt you'd buy at your lgs.

I'm inclined to believe so. Even though I've been going there for a while now and we're on a first name basis with each other, I find the story hard to believe when his asking price is 2 grand but he's almost completely dropping the premium price "just for me".

He's blowing smoke. Even if they were intended for the military, they would go in colts records as full auto lowers

        >they dont have the 4th pin!
Doesn't matter once that sn is logged as a full auto gun, it's a full auto gun, and will never be on the open market for you to purchase.

        >4th pin

        >would be full auto
I didn't go to West Point but it wouldn't surprise me if they have at least some firearms that aren't select fire or full auto.
        >he's blowing smoke
        I agree

Yeah, that's one of the things that doesn't add up to me. I find it hard to believe that the Army has to rely on giving cadets commercial rifles to train on.

Only example off the top of my head is that Colion Noir sometimes posts videos commentating on videos of defensive shooting incidents that hit the news. Don't know much else since I don't go out of my way to look for that kind of content, sorry I can't be of any more help.

Ive found one channel that uploaded gopro footage, some even 30 minutes long from the current ukraine thing. I honestly dont care too much what conflict it is, I just find it interesting to watch how these missions go down from some sort of unfiltered and unedited POV compared to all the constant stream of shit we get from mainstream media. Nothing bad happened in those videos aside from a couple close calls though. Still very interesting footage to watch just the comradery and teamwork as well as how people change under stress as well as how mundane something like a patrol can get even within enemy territory.

Ok so I have a universal carbine that's popping primers really fricking hard. I'm not sure if its the gun or the overpriced box of magtech. I've heard universal carbines weren't always the greatest but I've never seen ammo completely eject primers. I've ordered some S&B to try but that won't be here till later this week. Ammo is my guess but what do you guys think?

      Anonymous

Ammo quality, I had this happen when I bought my first couple of boxes of .22tcm. It's a cool cartridge on paper, but it's made like shit, every single primer cup fell out after firing and a lot of the time would stay or get back into the gun, jamming it. Idk if your carbine sucks or not, but that ammo definitely does, which double sucks cause magtech is normally cheap but fine

you can make the safariland holsters less bulky if you bolt the holster directly to the leg piece rather than use their QD stuff (can't remember what they call that clip/buckle system of theirs)

Depends on the clothing. Plenty of short barrel semi autos out there you could conceal under a jacket well enough. Single shots like the contender, those weird remington 700 pistols.

I've never shot one (or an auto .308 for that matter), but SBR .308s are supposed to be very hard to control in auto, but that can vary based on who's shooting it.

minimum kinetic energy required to be combat effective?

KE doesn't matter, adequate penetration does, usually quantified by 12" in FBI calibrated gel.
Less then that and you risk not hitting vital bits

you can make the safariland holsters less bulky if you bolt the holster directly to the leg piece rather than use their QD stuff (can't remember what they call that clip/buckle system of theirs)

Yeah, but even then the holster is like 3x the width of the gun.

What are some handguns that wont get their panties in a twist being abused, dryfired and slidereleased without snapcaps?
Muh extractors, muh this and that?
What is the absolute brick shithouse of a gun that gives no fricks?

      >slide released without snap caps
It'll damage the lockup over time on any gun, nothing is made of magical metal that isn't harmed by colliding really hard with other metal. That being said I beat the ever-loving shit out of a G17, shot at least like 15k rounds of Tula, did all the dry fire and no-snap cap slide releases you could ever want, and its still running. I replaced the recoil spring because it is a carry gun and dropped in a Wilson match barrel after I noticed the lockup getting a little sloppier than I like for relative precision shooting.

Pretty much any fullsize service handgun from a reputable manufacturer will do just as well. but the best is probably the MK23 by a narrow margin. Downside is that they cost 4x everything else, hold 2/3 as much, and are 2x the size.

Do you guys have any tips to reverse the direction of the hinge on one of these? Customer service says the screw is blue loctite (bullshit) and surface is green loctite. I have some WASR questions:
    >rubber butt pad
Can't find an example but I see people use them all the time. When I search, all the ones I see are for triangle folders or look shitty and shiny/slippery like the UTG one. My main reason for wanting it is really to cover up some ragged cracks in the buttplate which eat clothing, though the stock is also about an inch short; I want cheap and easy but don't want it to look moronic with cheap chinese junk. Slip on is fine.
    >a way to reduce recoil
Probably in the form of a flash hider or brake that doesn't look turbo moronic. If there was a G3/CETME-looking muzzle device that worked I'd eat that shit up (a CETME flash hider does not fit, I checked, the WASR is 14x1 LH and the G3 is 15x1 RH). I shoot with a beginner shooter and they're more recoil-sensitive than me. An SKS is fine but the WASR is a little much for them. Would an AMD-65 brake help?

I have rifles in 22, 9mm, 5.56, and 308 in both semi and bolt. I have an extra AR lower and upper. What caliber should I go for?

      Resident Wumbologist

I guess just another 5.56 AR to have as a spare/loaner. Maybe a pistol or carbine build if you don't have one already.
That's what I did anyway. Won two AR lowers in a raffle and put together a loaner out of cheap used/spare parts.

Why are slav women so beautiful? Is it a tactic to discourage attackers?

As an actual slav, they aren't really any more or less beautiful on average. I guess maybe there's a trend like Asians where they age a little more gracefully up until they hit menopause and age 20 years in one.
If you're basing your opinion off porn, there's a massive sampling bias there. Tons of meh or ugly slav girls out there in reality.

      >Stock.
The factory stock and handguards that current WASRs come with are trash. You should replace them outright. A slipover butt pad is insufficient because the stock will crack and break. If you want longer LOP you can get a furniture set with a longer stock (K-Var sells some). The shock absorption isn't critical because it's an intermediate caliber anyway.
      >Muzzle brake.
It comes with a slant cut brake. Shoot with that before you decide if you need anything better. It looks crude but works surprisingly well. plus you can mount a bayonet with it.
Definitely get an AKM bayonet. They're pretty good for what they are and the wire cutter feature is useful. Just don't pay a king's ransom for one from a specific country. Yugo, Polish, Romy, etc. are all fine.

Hey /k/ is it considered a straw purchase if I’m buying the rifle for the voices in my head

No, but you should probably look into that issue before buying a gun if you think they'll have a say in how you use it.

        >The factory stock and handguards that current WASRs come with are trash. A slipover butt pad is insufficient because the stock will crack and break.
I seem to have accidentally overwritten something I typed earlier. Pic was totally unrelated, just a generic WASR image. Stock is surplus in my case.
        >If you want longer LOP you can get a furniture set with a longer stock (K-Var sells some). The shock absorption isn't critical because it's an intermediate caliber anyway.
The surplus Romanian stock I use seems a hair shorter than the black plastic stuff it came with but it's not much. Only reason I want the rubber pad is to keep the buttplate from eating shirts. I'd prefer to keep my current stock.
        >It comes with a slant cut brake. Shoot with that before you decide if you need anything better. It looks crude but works surprisingly well.
I have, and as stated, the recoil turns said friend off from shooting my WASR. Thinking back on it, that may (ironically) be due to stock length and not the muzzle device as the plastic stock wasn't as harsh to shoot with IIRC. Maybe I should check into butt pads to add to LOP before doing anything too drastic. Could always sell the slip on pad if it doesn't do anything. And I know this "muh friend" thing sounds like a moronic excuse but it's true. I don't find it pleasant but can tolerate it. Beginner shooter doesn't like it one bit.
        >Definitely get an AKM bayonet. They're pretty good for what they are and the wire cutter feature is useful. Just don't pay a king's ransom for one from a specific country. Yugo, Polish, Romy, etc. are all fine.
Already have months ago for $20 and it was pretty much new; unfortunately my WASR came without a bayonet lug (shaved ears but still there, much like pic related example) which I have to solve eventually. I'll probably find a local welder/smith and see what his work is like before I even let him anywhere near it. Seems like it's a simple sand/prep -> build up -> file to shape.

Imported Czech beer is pretty good.

Let's say I match with someone on a dating app. Should I take my CCW out on dates? I worry about accidentally freaking her out if she goes in for a hug and feels it

You're carrying legally and it's obviously not for the purpose of abducting or harming her in any way. If she feels/sees it and asks be honest. If it's a complete deal breaker then she probably wouldn't be a good fit anyway.

Don't expect every female to be a dyed in the cloth gun nut of course, but it's not unreasonable to expect at least open mindedness on the matter.

So what is the deal with English shotgun stocks?

    >monte carlo stock was made in (suprisingly Monte Carlo , there was a big clay field there) to help keep a straight neck when shooting rather then having to crane it, negative is that you can not aim as high while keeping a proper hold on the gun

    > german stock looks similar (has a pistol grip) but withouth a sudden near the buttpad drop as a montecarlo

    > English stock?

English is the straightest one , no pistol grip
    > (pic related)
Doesn't look ergonomic yet for some reason they are still made, what is it good for, how are you supposed to hold it comfortably, why was it designed like that? Does it help with the range of movement or something ?
