It's very odd. The third act of the movie suggests that the final sequence, and perhaps all the killing in the entire movie, was just a surreal fantasy, but the director has to spoil the fun by insisting it was all real except the girls he has sex with were less attractive in reality.

Starship Troopers was supposed to be some gay israelite lambasting the book because "violence is bad :(" but the reason people actually like it is for its insane over-the-top depiction of a military society and enjoy the idea of it unironically.

Humorously, the Federation in the movie is if anything less morally questionable and more idealistic than the one in the book, but because Neil Patric Harris wears a leather trench coat OMG faaaaaasciiiiiiiist.

I also find it funny that people call it a depiction of fascism when the Federation is just a highly militaristic democracy. The only bar to citizenship is military service. Other than that, there is literally zero discrimination, they have women being quarterbacks on football teams and a black woman being their appointed executive. Civilians are hardly even discriminated against at that, they just can't vote and don't get government tuition assistance. It's basically Switzerland but they're fighting aliens.

Can't tell if the prop used is accurate to the older glocks or just a vaguely glock shaped prop gun

Polymer pistols were something of a new wonder tech back in the 80s when they were a new concept. Now that they're common, it's well known that they're mid at best. Cheaply produced crap that will get a lot weaker over not too long a time and necessitates you buy another one sooner, it's planned obsolescence to keep their customers buying more guns and make them more money, whereas a metal framed gun would probably be in service for at least twice as long.
But anyways, they were something of a status symbol at the time when they were harder to make and they were a new gizmo to fawn over as the future of guns. It's just that, once again, boomers didn't think through the consequences of their actions and now we're stuck with the result.

Does anyone know if the firearms in the book American Psycho were specified? I can't remember.
The events of the book, published in 1991, take place in the 1980s. Glocks were first imported starting in 1896.
There's two ways to read this: the movie is historically inaccurate; or, Bateman was on the cutting edge of firearms technology, which would be congruent with his character.

The last scene is early March 1987, based on Reagan's Iran-Contra speech. Which makes sense given the other scenes mostly take place in the winter. If I recall all the murders happen after the Christmas Party, so very likely it's the first quarter of 1987. Which would mean Glock is the new hotness that an image obsessed serial murderer would gravitate to.

Its meant to be part of his delusions, even the character stops and stares at the gun as if he can't comprehend what he's seeing.

    Bateman's not actually killing ANYONE,
hes a gutless, spineless, identity-less yuppie
with no friends, and loves no one, not even himself
its all a fantasy, a delusion, of a completely narcissistic, self absorbed 80s caricature of a person.
    "hes just.not.there."

I know the movie implies it was all a delusion, but doesn't the actual book leave it vague whether he actually was murdering people?
