History itself, bubba invented it in the 50s to go kill durr with. Go look it up. It was in bolt guns before it got repurposed for the AR.

.22 Savage Hi-Power was regularly used to kill tigers

a2 - second most aesthetic but moronic burst trigger mechanism
m4 - looks worst but most practical
a4 - looks shit, heavy but has rails
pros:
Massive aftermarket, very reliable in adverse conditions, accurate, relatively inexpensive and widely available ammo, wide range of ammo types, relatively lightweight, good barrel life, inexpensive rifles, lightweight ammo means you can haul a lot of it.
cons:
Effective range is limited by lightweight bullets, requires basic maintenance and lubrication where some rifles do not as frequently, not as effective against cover and barriers as many 30 caliber rounds.
Pros , higher flesh damage , larger range then most intermediate rounds , easy to find parts and easy to build . Cons , shit gas system , if you have a barrel less then 10.5 the gun will shut down on you within 2000 or so rounds . Poor flesh damage and velocity if the barrel is bellow 11 inches due to how he cartridge works , stock can’t be folded , needs to be cleaned constantly , has trouble with reliability when exploded to the elements . Conclusion , buy anything but an ar 15 /m4/m16 , and something with a short or long stroke gas piston
