In a dictatorship even mentioning the possibility of resistance is a threat. The whole system relies on people believing that they can't change anything.

He's part of the controlled "opposition".

Think about it: are there any Russian personalities actually calling for an end to the war? No, they all complain that the MoD "isn't going far enough" or that "group X" needs to try harder.

Putin allows this because a) it keeps the lesser factions (MoD, Wagner, FSB, Gazprom, HOMO, etc) fighting with eachother instead of plotting against him, and b) it gets the Russian public worked up in a way that is generally pro-war "we are failing because we aren't raising our eyebrows enough!!"

It is so incredibly rare for Putin himself to ever be named or directly criticized. It's always the underlings who are responsible. Basically how the Czar did things up until the Reds had enough.

Now he commands a penal army corporation that could very well co-operate with separatists like anti-Putin RVC and Cossacks, as well as the tsarists and other anti-Putin elements. Includes an ROC monk who denounced Putin in the name of Christ and was defrocked. That kicked off a lot of Cossack activity, protecting that monk from arrest.

The truth is, the government is a small group of people, and the PMC and fighting forces are protecting them. If the PMC revolts, the rich political class are at he mercy of this convict army and the separatists.

It does not seem he has openly declared war, but is warning the government in power. Yes, he is connected to the elite, but as in Russia, that means they are a threat to each other.

        >If the PMC revolts, the rich political class are at the mercy of this convict army and the separatists.

Russia would have to fight a war on two fronts, in Ukraine and on their own soil. You see how this revolt is a response to the war, as these people want to stop the war and have peace.
