Can you even accurize the FAL enough to be a halfway decent DMR?

Also the M60E6 is pretty cool but I want to see it with a full length barrel and not the short one.

        Anonymous

Its probably fine, the DSA rails are pretty rigid in lieu of free floating and (if you believe every poster on falfiles) bench shooters have gotten FALs down below 2 MOA, so the guns are theoretically capable of it. The importance of sub-moa is overstated in this day and age tbh, 4 is enough to hit a chest cavity at 300 yards. Nonetheless, they're getting replaced with some kind of AR10 in the next few years.

          Anonymous

FAL accuracy isn't really that bad, I don't know why people here talk about it as if it's a 5 MOA gun. IME a regular-ass FAL can do 2 MOA easily if you put a scope on it.

I think that's just the chic of the time? All those weapons were developed in the 90s and early 2000s, plastic was the new super material.
It promised to be lighter and cheaper than the stamped or even milled metal parts of the past (like the G3) while providing (nearly) the same strength.

IIRC they got dumped a lot of western weapons for close to free or for free when they gained independence from the Soviet Union and/or joined NATO.
Even the Swedes gave them and the other Baltic countries a bunch of license produced G-3s and MAG-58s.

Sweden played a big role in the creation of the modern militaries of Latvia and Estonia. Loads and loads of equipment and their officers were educated in swedeish military academies.
Probably the most cost efficient defence investment in swedish history except maybe ukraine aid.
Sweden also got access to soviet equipment previously never seen in the west. (Shipped on civilian ro-ro passenger ferries in secret)

That hasn't been 100% confirmed yet, but it seems likely.

Looks super ergonomic and it's center of gravity seems to be further back then most machine guns, I'm sure it's a dream to shoot. The M249 feels like swinging around a hammer, no weight in the back. Pistol grip for the m60 is almost in the middle.

As a mounted weapon the M240/FNMAG is better, the M60E6 is a better infantry weapon as it’s semi bullpup design makes it easier to shoulder fire (not super useful) and have better barrel length vs overall size. It’s a more compact GPMG

When we invaded Iraq we ran out of M240s somehow and some units purchased M60E4s as replacements and they did very well.

HK416 is good but it's no space magic. Colt Canada knows how to put together a good rifle and the basic design (a heavy barrel M16) is well proven. The magazine issue would apply to both equally.
