K9 is the most advanced mobile artillery in the world, its also the newest and most expensive and has a 50% global market share

650 K9s is a lot, more than enough for a full scale regional war

What? Poland literally has NATO troops in it, right now. The Bongs have got Challenger 2's in large numbers there. Furthermore, if you think Russia can make an effective push with NATO air force flying sorties from Germany et al, then you're fricking deluded. Unless Russia has 1,000 Su-34's with quantum shielding ready to deploy, Russia will lose any limited protection they have from their air force (good luck flying sorties when AA systems overlap from several countries) and then proceed to have their ground stuff deleted bit by bit as they bang their head on defensive units. If they're struggling to break through Ukrainian defensive, they'll have no luck doing so against NATO when half their shit is destroyed or damaged in Ukraine lol.

Poland doesn't want a situation where it is reliant on other nations to help. They will help as they're in their nation already, but just in case, they're wisely building up. Or if you believe vatniks, they're planning to invade Belarus/Russia/Ukraine!

i am guessing usa has simply realized that poles might make a much better ally in case of ww3 than germans would. so they greenlighted the idea to make poland an eu citadel of sorts so that they can focus on china when shit hits the fan instead of splitting their troops to defend the eu.

Maybe it opens the doors for more potential deals. Doesn't Korea produce their own ATACMS missiles? They would fit really nice for our HIMARS.

            Anonymous

I could see that deal making sense if there is also a transfer of technology involved, which Błaszczak has implied anyway. Because we need to produce this kind of stuff in-house if we want to be efficient.
Also, I am almost sure the ATCMS for HIMARS will be produced in Poland, because imagine buying rockets to all those 500 launchers.

This is a sound argument to make, but the problem with european MIC is a huge degree of indecisiveness and red tape. that's bullshit and you know it. Germany literally has a joint unit with Poland (Multinational Corps Northeast) and sent 3 Eurofighters to patrol Polish airspace in response to the Russian invasion in March. Germany also has a permanent deployment leading the NATO forward presence in Lithuania right next to Poland. PrepHole seething aside, to me it's pretty clear the actual antagonism between Germany and Poland is coming from Warsaw, not Berlin.

nobody is doubting the fact that Russia is a threat and Germany has repeatedly said that it would stand by the NATO defense unconditionally, but that doesn't change that there are disputes between Germany and Poland.

Poland is alone with the Baltic states and maybe Slovakia+Czech Republic. America is most likely going to dump nato in the next 20 years as it makes less and less sense to be involved in Europe for them.
With no more American soldiers in Germany they will start to go nazi again.

It's all looking good tbh, especially if Americans invent some type of laser-based missile defense and we buy it in the future.
Ideally we would have nuclear missiles, but it would require a nearly total collapse of Russia for that to become possible.
Against a future resurgent neo-nazi Germany we just need to be strong enough to do a 'stabilization mission' when they start to seriously rearm under a new fuhrer, before their army actually becomes strong again. On this issue we are going to have an actual full support of France and the UK.

Wrong. They would tell Poland to shut its fricking mouth and for the Baltics to stop celebrating Nazis. And they would have openly told the Russians that they can invade Ukraine and re-annex it. Because they don't give a shit.

yeah i dont see either of those happening.
It would require either a major redesign of the hull structure, or an ammo load that i doubt would be acceptable for a modern MBT.n

K2PL is supposed to have a redesigned hull and turret to increase the internal volume. That's one of the major aspects our MoD wants to be there in the end. If you look at the K2PL mockup, it has a slightly different turret and hull layout.

why does Poland buy so much from Korea, which isn't an ally and wouldn't come to Poland's defense in case of war?
there are plenty of NATO/EU alternatives available:

          >K2 tank - M1 Abrams/Leclerc/Challenger/Leopard 2
          >K9 howitzer - PzH 2000/CAESAR/Archer

          >K2 tank - M1 Abrams/Leclerc/Challenger/Leopard 2
          >M1 Abrams
Poland are already buying lots of them, but no tech transfer or domestic production. They are there to quickly replace the T-72 and PT-91s in service relatively quickly
          >Leclerc
Out of production. France just upgrades tanks it has
          >Leopard 2
As the Poles found out, Germans are buttholes when it comes to dealing with them for spare parts and modernisations. K2 is there to replace Leopard 2.
          >Challenger 2
This is a tank that has been out of production for over 20 years and it's factory is now closed and bulldozed down.
Challenger 3 is just a new turret on an old hull, no new actual tanks.

That's the idea. MoD confirmed that we can get FA-50 in PL standard as soon as 2023, which is ridiculously quick. And also: FA-50 are a package deal. One higher-up in the MoD let a slip that Poland is very interested in the KF-21, wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

        >K2 - better than M1/Leopard 2 but obviously more expensive, Leclerc/Challenger? lol
        >K9 - the only modern mobile artillery system in the world today
Redback - IFV version of the K2, expensive but no other IFV comes close and can probably take out some non-first tier mbts if needed
        > FA50 - nobody uses this as their main fighter jets but as a supplement to 4.5/5 gen fighters it fulfills the role better than any others, more effective than all 3 gen and some 4 gen fighters too, also surprisingly elite tier level performances in actual combat
        >KM SAM - should have gone with the L-SAM which has a 100 mile range + 61km ceiling with supposed performance levels 2x Patriot

SK is fully integrated into the US defense system, no country is close, there are others that are probably closer on an intel basis but in terms of force projection SK is the greatest non-US ally for the US

If Poland is serious about wanting to win they will go with the best available as they appear to be doing

180 K2s in the first patch confirmed (to be delivered by 2024). The confirmations from Polish govt we got today about K2, K9 and FA-50 all match Korean media reports from a few days ago, so Redbacks are almost certain (rumored announcement date is 27th). KM-SAM is the biggest question mark, as it's been only ever said that Poland is "very interested" in buying it, with no concrete numbers or confirmation.

                >>have one of the biggest military industrial complex in the world
                >>send less stuff to ukraine than Polaks or Bongs
a big MIC doesn't help you much if you don't have readily available stocks of weapons. Germany had to take out Pzh 2000s from its army inventory. Modern weaponry is manufactured and takes months/years to build.
Also, Germany is under no obligation to help as much as Poland or the UK, but that's beside the point.
                >>most of it is useless shit
Pzh 2000, M270, anti-tank mines, Panzerfaust 3, Stinger, hand grenades, ammo, protective equipment, trucks, fuel, armored cars, small recon drones, etc. aren't useless shit.
                >energy crisisin EU that is being fabricated by germans in order to put even more pressure on Ukraine
Germans didn't care about Ukraine or Russia at all before the invasion. The energy crisis is the result of moronic greens who are afraid of nuclear energy, that's it.
                >I seriously doubt any eastern euros will buy any german stuff for their armies after recent happenings
Lithuania is buying Pzh 2000 and Boxers, Hungary is buying Leopards, Pzh 2000s, Lynx and probably that Rheinmetall howitzer
                Slovenia just bought Boxers
                Czechia is getting Leopard 2

I mean we don't need to continue this debate, I agree German moronicness has led to big problems, mainly the nuclear phaseout and neglect of the army, but you insinuate it's all some hostility and German evil desire to harm Poland and Ukraine, when that's really not the case.

Of various Leo2 models most of them being shitty 2a4/5 variants and the rest not working or as the other anon said in open storage rusted to frick. Show me one image of more than 20 Leopards on a training exercise.

Nobody is under obligation to help Ukraine. They are all doing it either out of their own interests or goodwill. You are just an indifferent golem that will roll over if russians ever come for your country.

but the Russians won't come for our country, because they fricking can't. German military is permanently deployed to Lithuania. Germany has sent and is continuing to send arms to Ukraine. Germany is sanctioning Russia. Yes you can argue that Germany has underestimated the threat of Russia before the invasion and done too little to prepare, you can even argue that we're not helping Ukraine enough now, but to say that we're somehow on Russia's side is pure autism.

You should always prepare for worst case scenario. Your army is in shambles and will take years if not decades to recover from it's current sorry state. A lot can change in this time. You should be happy Poland wants to be a strong buffer zone for you and many other western-european countries, yet you come into every thread raving about german gibs and how it's all thanks to you. How can we not hate you for this? Your 100billion of additional one-time funding will amount to next to nothing in the grander scheme of things. Your politicians will keep curbing any sort of attempts at expanding the military. Your soldiers will keep using brooms in their training.

This in Germany will remain the same.

                >You should always prepare for worst case scenario.
no, you should make politics based on reality. And the reality is that Germany is firmly inside its alliances, EU and NATO. It'd be moronic to act like that wasn't the case.
                >You should be happy Poland wants to be a strong buffer zone for you and many other western-european countries
Poland wants to protect itself primarily (nothing wrong with this), but even without Polish military expansion, Russia wouldn't be fricking able to get through Poland before it's BTFO by NATO. Stop acting like Poland is le savior of Europe and everyone else in Europe is dependent on you, it's cringe.
                >you come into every thread raving about german gibs and how it's all thanks to you.
I don't, can't speak for other German posters. Ofc there are moronic German posters on here, but so are many moronic Polish posters who act as if Germany is Poland's enemy and LARP about how Poland will invade Germany. It's a fact that Germany and Poland are allied and it's a fact that German investments have helped Poland's economy massively in recent years.

They will be mothballed, but not at once. Only once there is enough k2 (so we're talking 2030ish) at that point our leo would be at the end of their lifecycle anyways.

It has to be approved by Germany first. I doubt they will agree to that. The thing with Spanish Leopards panned out only because there was 20 of them.

At the earliest I would see them in Ukraine maybe in two years, once we get a substantial amount of tanks we have bought.

How about your country sends some tanks to Ukraine? We have sent/will send 500 tanks already.

                Anonymous

Germany only has about 300 tanks in total, none of them mothballed. They're needed for national/NATO defense. If Poland is mothballing its Leo 2s just to "dab on Germans", may as well send them to Ukraine.

Poland is going all out on Korea because Korea doesn't have any opposing political interests or at least any that would directly oppose Poland. Poland already bought a lot from United States so they want to diversify in some way, also in the case on conflict to be able to conduct military operations by itself not by a call from the white house. Korea is also really open on technology transfer and production in Poland. US will never share its technology and local production with American military corps is so expensive it works only in some abysmal scale. Korea and US are also able to produce and work on military stuff in a short period of time. Western EU is basically a joke, no production capability, opposing political interests, no chance ever of technology or production in Poland, Poland got kicked out of EU maim battle tank project this year, which is questionable given Poland wants to aquire the most tanks from all of EU. Also nobody in Poland believes EU is gonna do anything in a case of conflict and US is still on the opposite side of the world so they are building up their own military.

  30. 2 years ago

Poland is now the frontline NATO country as West Germany was during the Cold War, and similarly will maintain a large, modern, conventional army.

It does the raise the question though if all new-production Krabs are going to Ukraine, and furthermore maybe even all Krabs currently in service will be supplanted fully by K9 and be passed on to Ukraine.

          >The why are we propping the Korean industry instead of investing into HSW to match the demand?
Because you can't make up for the 30 years we basically wasted in the required timeframe. Look at Germany, their MIC is supposedly much better, yet they can barely shit out 20 tanks a year. It would take decades to bring HSW to the level that allows them to meet current needs and we don't have that time.

As usual, there's a lot of people who would want to produce everything locally, only they don't understand how big of an effort it is. HSW is a joke in a lot of ways too. They literally only buy as much stuff as our MoD orders so when we turn to them for spare parts, they literally have none at hand and we need to wait God knows how long until they procure them while our vehicles gather dust unused. Typical Polish "januszerka" - would like to earn billions while only putting the minimal effort required. Maybe all those purchases from Korea will make them finally pull weight. They took a lot of stuff for granted before and it shows.

You said you left because of Bulgarian and Romanian gypsies immigrating, but they couldn't just come in as they pleased since they're not in Schengen. So leaving EU doesn't change anything, if you let them in before, you'll let them in now too, and if you don't want to let them in, you could do that without leaving the EU.

You're confusing Schengen with freedom of movement. Schengen means you don't have to show a passport at the border. Freedom of movement means that EU citizens can move to and work in other EU countries regardless of Schengen. The UK was never in Schengen.

Buying lots of stuff from Korea is a fine strategy. The idea is to have lots of weapons to deter Russia from invading to begin with. The world saw how weak Russia actually is so messing with a strongly armed nation would be off the table for them. I’m sure the Poles are well aware Korean gear isn’t competitive with Western gear but right now it’s the numbers that matter. And the fact is Korea can put out numbers at a cut rate.

I mean……everyone knows it’s way better than Chinese crap. It’s expensive compared to Chinese arms but vs Western systems they’re much cheaper. The K9 is way cheaper than PzH2k—it’s also much worse in accuracy speed and protection, but even if you wanted the best Germany takes forever to deliver products. Korea puts out big numbers and because it’s all older and off-the-shelf tech the Koreans don’t bother protecting it and let customers do their own production. So if you need numbers, need it quick, and can settle for "good enough" than Korean arms are compelling.

We should have acquired the PzH2k as Congress suggested if the Crusader was a no-go. Then Germany could tool up for big numbers quickly in today’s situation. Oh well.

K2 is $9+ million, M1A2 is $8 million, Leopard is around $5 to 7 million depending on the model, the 2A7 is more expensive than the K2 but that is effectively a prototype with less than 20 that are actually operational, KAI has prototypes with more units that are planned to be 2x+ the 2A7s and when released, which will be before the 2A7s can even produce 100 useable models, will have over 500 units per year none of which that will break down every day like the Leopard models lol

Face it, the A&D industry is all US and SK for the next several decades not the least of which due to both nations sharing high end tech only amongst themselves

K9 has an ability to hit targets on the sea using only standard 155mm ammunition and it is one of the reasons why Egypt has selected it as a replacement for the existing soviet made 130mm coastal guns. How is this inaccurate in any sense? Also, unlike PZH which doesn't have a dedicated resupply vehicle, K10 already exists.

MoD spokesman basically let it slip that they expect Ukraine to fail and a war by 2025, hence the warmaxxing.
    It's over.

WTF, i hate the west now!

        >you're a rushill!
MoD just went through more money in three weeks than it did in the last 10 years.
They also bought twice as much gear as they have people to man, which means there must either be mass mobilization, or it will be used to equip the Ukrainian army-in-exile.
You don't win elections by getting into giga-debt or conscripting people so the panic level must be severe.

Once a bribe has been given, SK is very adamant they get their side of the deal as per the agreement.

What do we need Langustas for? I thought the idea behind this rollover was to mothball all the post-Soviet shit.
Although I do like that PL has an SK alternative in case that HIMARS deal somehow gets fricked.
