Yeah should be functional. Always good to have a spare to slap under a table/shelf.

Aren’t new glocks like $300? Any way I carry a police trade in 229 and I don’t care if I lose if I have to use it. Just remember to replace the springs and it will function good as new.

This. If you have a firearm for defensive use, you have to understand that if you ever have to lawfully use it... that gun is GONE. Its gunna sit in an evidence bag for at minimum a year.

Anon, even if the county declines to prosecute the police can theoretically hold onto evidence in perpetuity.

In Texas once the investigation is complete, you have to write a letter to the relevant magistrate requesting the return of the gun within 61 days or its forfeit, once they get the letter it has to be returned within 121 days. So, you add a couple of months of police and prosecutors doing their thing and you're looking at ~200 days.

Sounds gay. Alabama has 5 days to give them back.

This reminds me of when the cops took my computer ~12 years ago, it was a pretty good ~$3k build and stayed in "lockup" for months but my housemate kept getting steam notifications I was playing Fallout NV.

What were they looking for on your computer?

I'm the aussie that got caught making explosives, they took a heap of shit like chemistry glass, reagents including ~1oz of pure silver, the bar fridge I was using to store chems and my computer.
I got to walk with a warning so I didn't care about the rest but I had to fight to get my PC back.

Story? How’d you get off with just a warning?

Just pick a PD with a high White %.
Beating on naggers hard heads can crack the plastic.

Yeah, they will be well maintained but covered in marks from being carried daily for years. If you don't care about some finish wear they will be fine.

After you have the slide refinished because it's bare metal from holster wear, you will be at the price of a new Glock anyway. So no, not worth it.

The guns will work fine, but will be beaten up. The handful of trade-ins I've bought ranged from damn near perfect to beaten to hell. Sometimes you luck out and get one that was issued to a desk jockey.
Unless you really like glocks and just need a beater, maybe buy one of the many affordable and perfectly functional plastic duty guns. CZ P10s are around $300, S&W M&Ps are a little more than that.

      >S&W M&Ps are a little more than that

I keep hearing this but never see it in person outside of the shield. Plz post an M&P 2.0 for a little over $300 as I'd like to buy one.

Seems like I was wrong about the M&Ps. They were dirt cheap for the longest time. I paid $320 for a 4" compact with the old trigger.
The CZ prices are insane right now though, under $350 for a P-07/9 or the various P-10s.

They always seem pretty pricey considering how beat they typically are.

I have two ex-service weapons. Got them damned cheap, a S&W revolver and a 9mm. The revolver seemed to have light duty with minimal wear & tear & grime. The 5906 looked like it had been stored under the driver's seat of a ghetto car for half a decade. I've put about 2000 rounds through the revolver (about 90% .38 plus ~10% .357). One of the two (orig) mags that came with the 5906 is slightly damaged & is missing the plastic buttplate, and both misfed a little bit at first. But, after thorough cleaning and some percussive maintenance they have both performed flawlessly for something like 8K rounds or so (no P+ through that gun, just standard 9mm). My total investment for both guns was around $400 including carry cases and holsters, plus I've picked up a few hundred dollars' worth of accessories since over the years.

That's my anecdote and do what you will with it. If you know your guns at all, you'll be able to evaluate its condition and any needs. With a decent eye, you too can have an ex-service weapon for dirt cheap and expect it to never fail you. If you don't know how to evaluate a weapon, pay someone with expertise to find one for you.
