Poland to purchase 670 Redback IFV

Revealed purchase lists so far:
>180 K2 MBT(to be delivered until 2024 in the same configuration as K2NO, likely for urgent needs) - $2.2bil<
>400 K2PL until 2030 - $6.1bil<
>48 FA-50(8 of which will be delivered by the end of this year) - $2.6bil<
>670 Redback(not much details on this but likely to be produced locally with ZSSW-30 turret) - $3.8bil>
The total expenditure is expected to amount up to 15 billion USD.
Also, the Polish government is asking for hard discounts in return for further collaborations in sectors like Nuclear Power plant, Highspeed railway, Hydro fuel cell, etc.

They're literally bagging every weapon they can get their hands on recently. What's going on in Poland?

bussines with Koreans is better than burgers or germs, since they're much more willing to transfer technologies and licenses. But i really don't like FA-50 purchase, makes no fricking sense since Poland already invested deeply into F-16 and F-35

The K2 is the best mbt in the world but probably the most expensive too

Redbacks are the best ifvs also

Fa50s has surprisingly strong performances in real combat situations but its not going to do well against 4.5 and 5 gen fighters, the kf21 is supposedly better than the f35 so if anything they should go with kf21s

Looks like Poland could have the strongest army in europe very soon

16b is less than 4% of Poland's GDP.
They can afford to spend that in a year, let alone several years as in this case.
Not to mention the fact that Russia just demonstrated that:
1.They have no respect for borders.
2.They think they should attack Poland.
3.They are dumb and spiteful enough to do it even if it would tank their economy.
4.They are petty enough to turn an entire country into a wasteland if they can't have it and rapacious enough to turn it into a wasteland if they take it.
Poland is being smart (unlike Germany, Austria and countless others).

Poles better not ask the EU to pay for these with european taxpayer's money.
If they want european armies to hang out in their country it can be done. It's already being done. They don't trust them to defend Poland? Then why are they in the EU?
We need a buy european act. These guys are insufferable with their blatant disregard for european solutions, before demanding the EU take their needs into account.
FFS they have a local industry that could be making these weapons, and they don't even ask them.
Not even refugees ask for this many gibs.

        "less than 4%"
Oh yeah right, any normal country can spend "less than 4% of its GDP" on comfort sales for useless weapons since russians have been demilitarized anyway, disregarding the rest of military spending.
Anon are you aware countries run on a budget and Poland isn't particularly doing well, budget-wise?
Didn't they want 500 HIMARS too?
And what about maintenance, and the people to man all these weapons? Won't they be paid wages either?
        This is ridiculous.

Lol moron detected, K2 also happens to be the most expensive tank and can operate underwater + precision strike targets from 1km+ distance even on top or behind the target, the only tank that is close is the leopard 2 but unfortunately the leopard 2 has not had the greatest track record in actual combat

Now be a good boy and go buy more F-35s.

The Rafale is to be introduced as a gap filler since KF-21 will only enter the service after 2026. KF-21 will take up much bigger portion of the air fleet.

            Waow top attack muniitons.
Because Bonus is not a french round. Jesus Christ you guys don't know shit.

Poland being a net beneficiary of funds doesn't make their GDP or population smaller.
Considering they also plan to produce and repair these themselves, it can also be viewed as investment not just in defense but the economy.
This is without even covering all the loans (including under lend-lease) they will be getting specifically for defense spending.

Question still remains: where does the money comes from? I hope it's not freebies from Europe, or it won't work. At all.
Poland has a frontier with Belarus, and Kaliningrad, and it close to baltic countries. That's the only points supporting its stance.
Romania actually is more endangered by Russia due to Transdnistria.

Lol are you a 10 year old playing vidya or just a moron?

The dassault is not even f16 level let alone f15, there are literally 10,000+ fighter jets in operation today that would mog the dassault and only ~1,000 are considered elite of which less than 500 are truly next gen defined as possessing tech that makes it a 100% kill ratio versus anything else, the F22s are at the top of the food chain nothing comes close you could scramble 100+ dassaults and they would all be dead pigeons before an F22 breaks a sweat, then the K21 followed by the F35, the russians and chinese have some models on paper that appear to be in this class but in reality they are probably only 1.0 gen ahead of shit class fighter jets like the dassault or gripen, lol the dassault is literally only used by thirdies and ss african countries that have a choice between a dassault or a mig21 lol

Same thing is going on with other actors in the regions: balts have been on a buying binge of weapons and equipment even before the invasion as they are prepping for muscovites last desperate attempt of getting a easy win to stabilize home, chechens the other day were requesting AA in a region that has no air activity. They want additional arms as they are prepping to fight other churkas in the upcoming caucasus wars.

Think of the "federation" as a giant soviet glacier, forzen in time and formed from the Russian SSR. When the glacier starts melting and fracturing (which has already begun) there is going to be lots of chaos and kino going on.

Poland will just be one of the big fish moving in on this chaos in part to control the chaos as well as to look to confiscate any of the big boy toys laying around, including nooks but also chem and bio agents.

I don’t hate other Korea. But, if you buy Korean you’re getting inferior gear. Not Russian or Chinese inferior, but the reason why anyone buys Korean is to spend less and tech transfers off older / off-the-shelf components. The reason why they don’t protect their tech because everything is common knowledge industry stuff. Western manufacturers have tech they’ve developed with great expense and effort so they want to protect their competitive advantage. It’s too bad Poland is abandoning their industry to build Asian stuff.

      counterargument
The west and allies spend a lot of r&d money on making the newest top of the line shit and then pump it out in numbers later
korea designs gear around the stuff maybe one generation behind, for cheaper, without having to spend a bunch of money on r&d
you're getting something heaps better than old/modern soviet gear for ultra cheap, along with knowledge and licensing of that tech
it probably isn't difficult to create/buy upgrade packages once you have it, and its likely still within a range of 85-90% as effective as the cutting edge shit
if you aren't america, meaning you're a broke b***h, it actually seems like a good fricking deal

What does korea produce that is one generation behind? Their tanks, ifvs, mobile artillery, assault rifle, fighter jets are the most advanced in the world

The only comparables are in tanks with the Leopard 2 and fighter jets with the F22, but the US does not export the F22, no other fighter jet comes close to the K21 not to mention the complement of next gen drones that play wingmen to every K21

KF21 max speed mach 1.8, max operating ceiling 55,000 feet, 11g+

F35 max speed mach 1.6, max operating ceiling 50,000 feet, ~9g

The only "advantage" the F35 has is that there is an extra compartment to hold air-to-ground missiles

The F35 is a jack of all trades master of none, but the KF21 is an air superiority aircraft probably not as suited for ground bombardments but more so to rule the skies

Lol you never been in combined arms operations, fighter jets are often scrambled with little notice, they are not taxi drivers hanging around air space waiting for something to happen 24/7

So a difference of mach 0.2 is the difference between a toyota camry and a porsche 911, get to the fight quicker and complete mission faster, that's why you don't see any fighter jets that go 300 mph homosexual

The next gen are researching ways to have lower outer orbit operations at 100,000+ operating ceiling so that the fighter jets can exceed mach 3.0+ or even mach 10.0+, in the air speed, stealth, precision, firepower is everything

It's estimated RCS is still higher than any US 5th gen fighter and they have yet to finish their first AESA radar attempt. Getting this far is an achievement, believing they've superseded the F-22 or F-35 is a delusion.

Yes and that reason is because of a lower price, technology sharing and local manufacturing. Even the Koreans don't claim that its a 5th Gen competitor, marketing it to compete against other 4.5s like the Rafale and F-16s.

In reality the K2 is likely sub-par. An old generation chassis with a body kit turret. All of those sensors, dispensers, FC computers, loaders, engine, etc, are all off-the-shelf industry components — and all tied together in a rudimentary manner. There’s no way they spent the 10+ years of intensive integration work + endless testing to debug it all. Who pays for it? American MIC gets government money to do all this hard work thereby reducing their exposure to massive financial risk if the orders don;t come in, there’s show-stopping problem.

This 55t tank is going up against proven heavy hitters like M1 (70t), Leo2A7 (66t), Challenger 2 (75t) and Merkava (65t).

Is that why the few K21s they deployed for field testing in ukraine mogged everything at comic book level kill ratios? Places like poland and turkey witness this first hand other than you that read your dungeons and dragons book, a squad of 10 K2s could take out 100+ of any of the mbts you listed without a single casualty

The only exception is the M1A2 which has depleted uranium armor similar to the K2s, but the K2s have the most advanced targeting systems and can literally precision strike at 500m+ gap closer than the next closest rivals (other than the armata), walk 500m+ in battlefield terrain, a challenger or merkava wouldn't even see it coming and even in closer range their rounds would literally bounce off the K2s, its literally like comparing 10 pounds of titanium versus 100 pounds of concrete lol

180 K2s is enough to give Poland parity to something like 900 T90s, the parity ratio for K2s mbts is generally 1:5 T90s, 1:3 Chieftains, 1:2 M1A2 and 1:1.5 Leopard 2s

The K2 and Redback are some of the most advanced armored vehicles in the world right now. Only the new Panther, and likely the yet unveiled new Abrams are more advanced. The only better IFVs than the Redback atm are the Lynx and Namer, but the Redback actually has better tech than either for now. The K2 for Poland actually has substantially heavier armor than the Korean army version too as Korean bridges have lower weight limits.

      Anonymous

Yeah, this. I can't see Poles actually going through with it all, it's going to be cancelled sooner or later, especially if Russia stops posing a threat.
Support for all this militarization is going to stop once someone from the media finally asks "uh... where exactly are we getting money for this from?" and PIS has been wildly unpopular for a while now, considering all that stuff about breaking their own constitution.
Hell, if Russia stops posing a threat I can see US just cancelling whatever Abrams didn't make it in time, no point wasting it there when you could go to Asia with it and fight the Chinese.

        Anonymous

Yeah, but every Polish analyst, military advisor and general keeps saying that it is a long-term project and we need those purchases, because Russia will never stop being Russia and they will be back to their old ways in 10 years. We've royally lucked out this time around, but next time we might not be so lucky and we need an army.
But knowing our politicians, I can see the opposition party shutting it all down once they get into power. Because it was started by our rival party and they are never right, let's scrap all of this and start anew.
That's why we never got anywhere in 30 years, because our politicians are spiteful children.

        >and PIS has been wildly unpopular for a while now, considering all that stuff about breaking their own constitution.
You'd be surprised how little we care about this whole constitution thing. The Western media are making a bigger deal out if it than it is in reality. The same can be applied to Germans and French notoriously breaking their own constitution.
And PiS is going away. We are in a curious situation, that while they are still controversial, they are still a better option than those other guys, because at least with PiS we kinda know what we are getting into. And they can step up their game when they need to, as this Ukraine conflict has shown.

            Anonymous

The FA-50 is a supersonic light fighter that can pull similar G's and altitude to small fighters comparable to the Gripen and will be BVR capable in the next block as well as having a AESA radar.

            Anonymous

FA-50 with the AESA upgrade and BVRAAM integration proposed right now is actually superior to some versions of F-16 and enough to supplant current Mig fleets. The plan will be approved as soon as the ATT program moves on where the T-50A with an AESA radar from Raytheon is offered to the US Air force.

Germany will spend 100 billion. The Polish economy is about 6 times smaller than Germany, so actually this 15 billion is in the same ballpark for them. Almost exactly. Except that the Germans will spend it on socks for their soldiers and radios and stuff like that, cos that's what they're missing.

    >What's going on in Poland?
Russia is waging wars again, and is threatening Europe, as you may have noticed. Europe is rearming in response.
Poland just donated most of it's old equipment pool to Ukraine, and they need new ones.
Germany has typically armed "the rest of Europe", but they have proven to be an unreliable partner. They are going out of their way to please Putin and to sink Ukraine, even down to nitpicking petty shit, like "Oh no, you have a German engine in your SPG. So you can't donate it to Ukraine, our engines should not go to war". And everyone sees this, and they will consider it in the future. If Poland builds out an industry for heavy equipment to provide alternatives, it's likely that the smaller nations will buy from them this time, seeing how Germany keeps trying to stop countries from using the weapons they bought from them. And Europe is rearming. This is a big market.

The water coming out of my tap is provided by a French company. I also pay my gas bill to a French multinational — through a French-owned bank."

The country has already lost half of its doctors between 2009 and 2015. Shortly after Poland joined, over 60 percent of fifth- and sixth-year medical students said they planned to work abroad; in Bulgaria that figure went up to 90 percent.

Money aside, how is Poland supposed to maintain such an army?
Hundreds of leopards, hundreds of M1A2, hundreds of K2, same with artillery systems and IFVs. This is a pure logistics and maintenance nightmare, having to order spare parts left and right all over the world.

Not to mention the Polish armed forces only have 120 000 active troops. 150 000 with the reserves
How in the world can Poland man all these tanks with an army smaller than the French Ground Forces alone (130k troops)????
I heard about the possible increase to 300k, reserve included, but it still sounds far too small, as it still includes the navy and airforce.

Cool story bro. What am I next? A north korean? Nigerian? From Togo maybe? Or what country will suffice that you can sleep better at night? Either way. Germans get the bullet for sucking r*ssian wiener. Ungrateful c**ts cannot even pay for their soldier but have the biggest mouth of them all. Not for long 🙂

The number has to be split between AS21, K9(A2), recovery and support vehicles. Since they all share the common-ish chassis.
