Side armor has been measured as 8mm + 10mm steel plates so its only resistant to 7.62mm AP from the side and probably rear

        Anonymous

they used some fancy very durable steel that's why its thin in the pic. its resistant to 12.7 mm when fired from 100 meters at 90 angle (so directly at borsuks side) and 14.5 mm at 30 angle from 200 meters. front armor can survive 30 mm..

Poland gave away hundreds of its active service BMP-1s to the Ukrops, and the Borsuk program will still not replace all of the legacy Soviet shit 1:1.
Poland needed a BMP replacement 25 years ago, so this is very late, but welcome anyway. Just glad they didn't buy some Korean piece of shit again, but the Borsuk will use some automotive components from the Krab/K9 program, like suspension.

              >f "IT MUST SWIM" requirement

Poland's generals back in 2012 when the concept of new IFV was shaping up were full schizo about it needing to be able to swim for some reason so that funny big flat front was shaped more to work like a boat in the water than with protection in mind. It's still a little bit angled and not completely flat I guess.

it was reasonable at the time, when most of the units were in the western part of poland and everyone expected russia to actually have an army capable of destroying every bridge on vistula if needed

I thought IT MUSTS SWIMS is a stupid requirement, but given all the problems Orks have crossing even smallest rivers & other water obstacles, where even the tiniest mobile bridges can be leveled in minutes, I have to agree with Polish brass-gays.

Polish army keeps this requirement to this day though. They justify it by saying that Ukraine is just one giant flat piece of steppe while in case of Polish-Russian war the main battleground would be Belarus/North-Eastern Poland which are hilly regions with a lot of wetlands, marches forests and lakes.

If you sum it up it is a massive amount of money way above Poland's yearly budget reach but the payment will be spread out to like 10-20 years so it's some small % of yearly budget in that case. Also add that Poland has way cheaper labor so anything that will be produced in Poland is automatically way cheaper and the wages will circulate back into Poland's economy. They also had a pretty big economic growth for past 30 years, now it slowed downed due to covid and war but it will probably bounce back to 3-5% yearly growth in couple of years so the growth will pay for military spending.

Still shitty consumption vs. diesel motor. There's a reason no one in the world uses these on anything except ships and aircraft.

It can indeed burn diesel, but it will use more than double the amount of fuel the L2 engine uses. The L2 engine is multifuel too by the way.

      24 mechanized batallions.

      Anonymous

      6 Divisions, 4 brigades each,4 battalions each = 96 battalions + support = 96 BTG

      18-20 armor - 4 m1a2sepv3 + 2 M1A1 + 3 K2 + 4 Leo2A5/PL + 5-7 K2PL produced in the future (300-500)
      16 APC mechanized - 7 Rosomak-hitfist30 + 9 Rosomak-zssw30
      24 IFV - 18 BWP Borsuk + 6 BWP heavier Borsuk K9 chasis
      12 Aeromobile - aw149 + W-3 Głuszec + ah64 + Aero + paratroopers (6th elite brigade part of NRF)
some BTGs on titus6x6/griffon-like vehicles in the future

all this with WOT light forces of local defence (e.x. Warsaw Wot Brigade with 3 btn)

realistically - 50-70 full combat readiness BTGs, quite strong force considering it will have NATO air force coverage

The question is if we can afford this...

We can and everyone who says otherwise is a moron who never saw debt to gdp ratio. It could be financed ONLY by loans and the ratio would still stay below most european countries, with increased spending on military it shouldnt be a problem at all. And it aint possible to just say "lol no" to the modernization program anyways, sooner or later it has to be done so its better to do it with huge orders like that to bring the overall cost down.

Unfortunately, Leo has more logistics and maintenance in Poland already than Abrams will ever have. But time for joint production with Germoney long passed, it should have been done in 2010-2016 so there might be first tanks produced from 2020 on. Maybe when goverment changes in october there will go back to leo bot i doubt it

Only Abrams and K2 will be left in few years.

kek, there will be many leo2 still in 2035 maybe some more from Switzerland or smth, it would be extremely stupid to give Ukies only working modern tank in polish armed forces. u get updoots on muh twitterinho and destroy your army capabilities for decades, there is 14 armor btn in pol armed forces and im not sure if even half of them have some tanks at the moment

No one is going to need Leo2s with Abrams and K2s bro. Poland can now exploit its goodboy status with the US and order as many tanks as they want(with standard armor I might add). The only reason they didn't order more is because asiatics proposed a better deal.
Polish Leopards will probably all get sent to Ukraine or be placed in reserve once all orders are fulfilled.

As a Pole: there's historical shit between PL and DE but it's mostly gone and buried.
Then there's the moronic PiS government stirring anti-German sentiments because the next elections are this year, they can't exist without an enemy, and Russia is no longer a convenient target because pretty much everyone hates Russia so you can't make political capital on that.
Then there's Russian shills actively trying to inflame that even more to divide the EU/HATO/whatever, because the more we
squabble, the less we do against Russia.

        >But with some other allies, our relationship is difficult, isn't it?

        >The direction of foreign policy is right. And most importantly: we operate effectively. We were able to put pressure on Germany - such as tank deliveries to Ukraine or the Patriot anti-aircraft system. Of course, Berlin will not forget this. German pressure on Poland - exerted also through EU structures - will accompany us for years. You have to be aware of it. However, our strategic goal is to keep Ukraine alive and guarantee its security. If they sleep peacefully in Kiev, so will we. So we should not look at the possible political costs in relations with Berlin, because if Ukraine collapses, it will be a catastrophe for us. We have other priorities and concerns than Berlin's dilemmas. Germany is a key economic partner for us, but its political stance is due to tardiness, harmful to Poland, the EU and NATO. If the German authorities are unable to make the right decisions on their own, we cannot accept this state of affairs. It is the richest country and the largest economy in Europe. It is high time that they even lead the actions of the EU and NATO and lead by example. Meanwhile, it is impossible to avoid the impression that we are dealing with a German donkey that has a taste for Russian oats and we have to force the stubborn animal away from the manger. The attitude of the German elites is not only insufficient on many issues, it is also irresponsible. It seems that the Polish authorities are aware of this and indeed pursue a very active policy in this regard. It will cost us in the future, but these costs will be nothing compared to what we would have to bear, if Russian soldiers stood on the Polish-Ukrainian border. We can't let that happen.

It's impervious to at least 12,7mm all around

      Anonymous

      All-around protection against .50 caliber HMGs at 90-degree angle of incidence @ 100 m.
      All-around protection against 14.5 mm @ 30-degrees @ 200 m.
Also STANAG 3 level of mine protection, which is higher than Leopard 2, Abrams and K2 against a Soviet TM-62 mine exploding right under the hull...

That's a very respectable level of protection for a swimming vehicle with all-steel construction.

      Nice try homosexual.

        >Nice try homosexual.
Imagine getting upset at someone poking fun at a nonexistent vehicle.
This has happened to ever single armoured vehicle, they always get heavy and bloated because their armour is obsolete by the time the R&D cycle is finished, because either the weapons have advanced or the user has moved on to fighting different kinds of wars.

          >nonexistent vehicle.

Unlike the AS-21 Bareback, the Borsuk does exist and is ready to go into mass production. It's the heavy IFV that is just a concept at this point.

The deal also calls for 500-600 heavy (non-amphibious) IFVs based on a new hull from the Krab/K9 program...

This is pretty interesting, has there even been a prototype of this shown? Is it like the Anders vehicle that was demonstrated a few years ago?

It was already confirmed that the hull will be further modified KRAB hull and not Redback's hull. Also the heavy version will have the same Polish turret as Borsuk not that Israeli-Korean once Redback has.

        Yeah, no.
It's going to use automotive components from the K9/Krab and the same Polish ZSSW-30 turret as the Borsuk, so you can frick off with your AS-21 Bareback vaporware shit.

Took them some time. He primely failed anti-mine tests since delay but now it works after they blow up first 4 to pices on mines. Now it can withhold TM62 directly under hull. Good anti mine protection.
    Fun fact - ABC protection

It is big - swimming requirement is a b***h. On the other hand limiting weight will make it mobile on field.

30mm is enough for everything rus have and this IFV will meet. Plus Hunter-killer system at least on par with Leo2A5 and better optics.

Frontal armour able to hold russian 30mm. More then good for river crossing IFV.
