    if youre russian, anyways

in US service, the M270 MLRS would be their primary rocket artillery since it can carry heavier loads over rougher terrain
while the M142 HIMARs is more of a fast-response option when you need rocket artillery on site as fast as possible with a leaner T3R, even if it has a smaller salvo

no, it would be 2 or 3 HIMARS vehicles.

It was a special case that involved a bunch of soviet agencies shitting themselves as they struggled to figure out what to do with Rust's plane while it was still in the air. Obviously an embarrassment for the USSR, but not due to their ADs not working.

But they didn't work, the system that should have concluded with their operation failed. The point is still the same. If there was a failure in the chain then, there could just as much be a failure in the chain now.

He didn’t avoid anything. Where did this ludicrous narrative come from? He was being tracked the moment he entered Soviet airspace and was intercepted multiple times, just that nothing was done about him due to compounding reasons: chain-of-command screwups, mistaken identity (the Cessna looks similar to a Yak-12 and flew through a training zone with a bunch other aircraft flying at similar speeds and altitudes), strict orders not to attack civilian aircraft due the the KAL 007 accident which had happened just a few years prior, and other things. Maybe some of that were the Soviets covering their ass due to embarrassment but Rust himself reports being intercepted shortly after entering Soviet airspace so it’s an absolute fact that he was detected on radar and was allowed to go on simply due to some process failure. In FACT, it was the Finnish radars which lost track of him which led them to launch a search which was only called off when news of his landing came out — apparently aircraft disappear off air traffic control radar in that region for some reason. I love how reality is literally the opposite of what you want to believe it is.

/k/ is becoming synonymous with extreme ignorance.

Are Russian AD sites, early warning radars and their transmission details also on Google Maps? Good LORD I can’t believe you even comment on a topic you’re this ignorant about. The US is probably the only country in the world able to accurately map out a a working flight path for such an attempt using a huge inventory of the world’s most advanced ELINT platforms developed over decades specifically to defeat that type of threat environment.

Russia has managed to catch up somewhat with the Tornado-S (until PrSM drops). You don’t see it used that much because there’s apparently too few Ukie targets worthy of them. Ukie defense is mostly infantry with light arms / mortars with very occasional artillery support and sometimes a fighting vehicle — mostly it’s just guys in basements and trenches. The glide-kit bombs turned out to be more useful against basement fortifications. Apparantly traditional tube arty is still doing most of the work on both sides, although FPV drones have turned out to be a major supplement to arty.

It definitely did something — forced the Russians to disperse and better handle ammo stores. For the last year, though, it’s been mainly just sniping the occasional cluster of disposable troops with the odd vehicle.

In fact, both sides accuse one another of being moronic subhumans but both sides also have shown a strong ability to learn and adjust so that yesterday’s wunderwaffe has been made much less effective today.

I mean he's not entirely wrong, ziggers adapted to Bayraktar which was fricking wrecking their shit in the early stages of the war, they adapted to Himars, they're struggling to adapt to FPV drones but eventually there's likely to emerge a solution that will render them much less effective.
Underestimating ziggers like twitter nafoids tend to do is extremely dangerous. They're fricking moronic but they're capable of learning in the grand scheme of things, which is why ukies need a steady stream of weapons to keep them on their toes.

              Anonymous

The “much less effective” stage was been achieved from since a year ago. We only get to the see the highlight reel, the huge majority of those FPVs fail; think of them more like a supplemental artillery with a camera built in.

              Anonymous

              >they adapted to Himars
              By handicapping their own firepower.
Ukies needed a breather from the Russian artillery onslaught and HIMARS gave it to them on a silver platter. Then later Total Artillery Death started and Russia started pulling older pieces out of storage to make up for losses.
Yes, Russia adapts. Just like they adapted by using the Chinese all terrain mobility vehicles dubbed "golf carts". We want them without a steady supply of ammo due to HIMARS threat. We want them using older artillery with less accuracy and range. We want them to ride into battle in more and more unarmored vehicles. Please. By all means let them adapt.

              >ziggers adapted to Bayraktar

All they had to do was to literally turn on their AD and stop jamming most of the spectrum their radars worked on. So yeah, they adapted by stopping being completely moronic and instead went to being mostly moronic. Wow.

If HIMARS forces ammo to be dispersed and further away, then it is still effective.

I remember the first few weeks after they were employed. Every explosion on the Russian side was claimed to be a HIMARS strike on their Telegram channels. They were fricking terrified of it, which is plenty of work in and of itself. Never mind the dozens of ammo dumps.
