Plan on start going?

I can't fricking decide which form of /our/ larping I want to do!
>inb4 you don't have to larp you fricking moron
Yes I do. Larping makes it more fun and provides another reason for going PrepHole and for mastering various skills.

Anyway I have narrowed it down to three different sort of categories. Something like...
>Primitive larping
>Historical larping so things like vikangz, 17th century, WW2, or something like that
>No nonsense modern survivalist "whatever gear works be it old timey, surplus, or modern" outdoorsman
Of course which path I choose decides what sort of gear I will be buying. What do you guys think? What do you guys prefer as your PrepHole larp?
>inb4 you'll never touch grass
mean

Also I guess this can be a /General/ for PrepHole larping.

Are you a burger or a europoor? Do you have historical interests in any specific period? Do you have, or want to have skills and tools to customize or make stuff?

I'm a europoor, so I have access to lots of various early to mid 20th century surplus kit that isn't necessarily all camo and olive drab. So that's my larp.

This, you larp as the local mad hermit, collecting herbs, animal carcases for taxidermy project or berries to flavour your moonshine. You offer to foretell future to the travellers your encounter on your journey and follow the old folklore believes, asking the spirits whether you can enter their domain, or drink from their spring.

I'm gonna add some more to my first post

If you learn leatherworking, you can quite easily modify or even completely make a bunch of pre-synthetic stuff. Canvas and leather stitch together relatively well, meaning that you can for example add extra straps to a pack where you see fit.

I don't personally sew much (aside from leather), but my wife does. So she has modified a bunch of stuff for me, and even sewn my primary hot-weather PrepHole pants from scratch. Sewing is a very useful skill for both PrepHole and larping (ie. any nature-enthusiasm that isn't ultralight-consumer optimized-synthetic nexplusultra-modern).

If you have historical interests, trying to spend time innawoods in similar garb and kit can give you a better understanding of that period and those people. The historical interest will also help you understand what kit you need, since people across time and space have had different needs when PrepHole.

However, you will quickly notice that there are very large similarities in the historical kit of most outdoorsmen prior to the middle of the 20th century. It is usually layered, rather than carrying everything in a single pack and it usually relies on an array of bushcrafting skills and basic foraging, rather than gadgetry. It presupposes the potential for violence. It often also supposes that you have brought friends and probably servants/slaves to carry extra crap. The latter might be difficult to rely on nowadays.

I do not like wearing synthetic materials, I don't like how they look, and I find that even cheap traditional materials last longer and are easier to repair than expensive modern ones (at the cost of weight). Obviously, I am not PrepHoleing to cover as much distance as possible, but rather to go somewhere aesthetically pleasing without disturbing the aesthetics of the place with neon-green polyester jackets and purple nylon backpacks.

Oh, and remember that everything revolves around footwear. Get that first, add clothes/kit from there.

I’ve explored old forest roads to find places to bury ill gotten goods and illicit items. I’ve never stolen anything in my life. We’ve all read stores about people who get caught embezzling millions and I always wonder why they didn’t think to bury a large sum in the woods.

My plan would be to get it in cash, roll stacks of bills into cylinders, then seal them in sections of pvc with glued on caps. You can fit roughly $90k into a 2’ long piece of 2” pvc. I figure a $10,000 stack would roll up and fit, and US bills are 2.61” wide. How many of those could you fit into a large backpack? 10? 20? They’re obviously waterproof. Throw some desiccant in for good measure.

The best hypothetical place I’ve found was a densely forested area that’s protected from logging due to it being an endangered species habitat. Hunters wouldn’t bother going there because it’s too densely forested (basically a jungle). Adjacent to the area is a swampy area not conducive to logging.

I LARP as if I'm surviving through the aftermath of something and the world has gone to shit, finding places to hide, only eating canned food etc. I've been doing this for over 10 years now, it's basically part of my life now, managed to find a GF who does the same.
Sometimes we lock ourselves in the house and LARP a zombie apocalypse, which basically means getting comfy, playing video games and fricking, life is good.

intentionally locking yourself indoors is the opposite of comfy

Sounds incredibly based. Although eating that much canned food isn't very healthy. You should larp that the event wasn't nuclear or something so you could go fish and hunt for your sustenance instead.

The more I understand the mindset of modern outdoors types the better I like LARPers. What's the fricking point of going innawoods if everything you do is a desperate search for comfort? Why go outdoors if you have to absolutely recreate the environment you have at home? Just stay at home. Unless you're doing this for sustenance and you have to hunt for food in some remote place and you hate being outdoors, then I understand. Why are bugman urbanites so obsessed with efficiency and convenience? It's disgusting.

Because they live artificial subhuman lives and are consumerists, so by being ultra optimized hikers with the lightest newest gear, it feels like something more real and tangible matters to them.
I should know, I grew up in big cities.
If you legitimately go off the path for actual adventuring, military work, foraging, hunting and self-reliance, I understand the need for high quality fancy gear. But for most, it is just as much of a LARP as dressing like Aragorn, except the latter might learn interesting new skills due to his limitations.
