Oh, my bad, I read that as "Guatemalan Canal" and thought this was some other alt-history bullshit scenario where the Guatemalans captured the Panama Canal.

We funded your plan. South America is now in disarray and the USN cannot transit ships through the canal, but fruit prices are at an all time low! There's still the issue of the Japs though...

attack the transports after sinking all their escorts instead of just turning around and running away

Pack Indispensable Strait with subs. Guadalcanal at this point has no permanent air cover so operations here should heavily restrict allied attempts to resupply the island. Send transport ships by night halfway, then have them moor in camouflage within the various inlets of Santa Isabel. Have fighter sweeps keep the sky at least somewhat clear of snoopers.

      >Guadalcanal at this point has no permanent air cover
except for the three fleet carriers
      >so operations here should heavily restrict allied attempts to resupply the island
Jap planes didn't have the range and accuracy necessary to make this happen. they could have messed up the marines' plans a bit but you can't bomb them off of the island

drawing CV's out to the islands would've put them at risk, so anon's plan is pretty good actually because it can bait those carriers into being open to attacks by Japanese carriers or even a surface force.

        >Jap planes didn't have the range and accuracy necessary to make this happe
he's talking about striking the maritime lifeline to the islands, which is pretty easy relative to bombarding land targets with small payloads.

look at a map bro, the supply line to the island was further east. the japs could barely get seaplanes in the air over guadalcanal, they weren't going to be able to do shit against transports sneaking in from the east at night

land based bombers, operating out of Rabaul, can reach that far bro, and sometimes they actually did and went that far.

            >the japs could barely get seaplanes in the air over guadalcanal
according to these videos, the japanese made several attempts with land based aircraft but it was prevented by weather conditions

three fleet carriers is five times what the guadalcanal air field had at any point during its operation, with better planes too, read a book
