Also, "pipe shotguns" are traditionally made out of whatever a piece of crap water pipe at Home Depot is made out of. That's the point.

        What's a dom pipe

        Disgusting creature.

        Gay

Any 250 psi rated steel water pipe should do fine

But 12 ga goes up to 14000psi

          >But 12 ga goes up to 14000psi
          Indeed.
But when you use a water pipe that's much larger than a 12ga barrel should be there is a lot of blowby and the pressure is much lower. That's why pipe shotguns made from crappy pipe don't explode.

Oc, but if can get some steel barrel as I said in the OP, would it be able to handle the pressure or should it still be larger than 1.84 cm (12ga)

          >But 12 ga goes up to 14000psi
Right, and if you were somehow able to seal all that 14kpsi inside the pipe you would have a pipe bomb. Fortunately the barrel should be open at one end.

I can't find it, but there's a video on youtube showing a guy building pipe guns out of tubes rated for far lower pressure than 12ga and them being just fine. You think the guys making pipe guns in the jungle to fight the Japanese invasion of the Philippines cared what pressure their pipes were rated for? Pipe guns have been around forever, as long as you're using a proper steel pipe and not plastic, you're on the right path.

I'm not denying that it works, I'm just explaining why it works. And that's critical to understand. If you took tight-fitting tubing that was the correct diameter for a 12ga barrel then it would need to stand the full ~12,000 psi of a standard shotshell. You can only get away with weak pipe if it is sufficiently oversize, which 3/4" standard water pipe happens to be.

Oc, but if can get some steel barrel as I said in the OP, would it be able to handle the pressure or should it still be larger than 1.84 cm (12ga)

In order to answer that question you need to know how thick the tubing is, simply talking about the metal alone isn't enough information to go by. If it is thick enough then sure, it will handle the pressure. The underlying math isn't too hard, google up "hoop stress calculator" and "longitudinal stress calculator", and use the dimensions of the material you are asking about.
