Because the visual difference between a T-54/55 and T-62 is literally down to the road wheels and where the bore evacuator is.

        >approaching the frontlines no less

Russia and Ukraine have been using tanks are mobile guns for awhile. Neither side has enough for massive armoured thrusts (at the moment) so what they do is drive up a hill outside of a town or whatever, fire a few HE shells into the general area and then drive away. Ukrainian volunteers have said that they do that and sometimes spray 30mm cannon shit in general areas and then drive away. According to them it doesn't matter. A 115mm HE is the same as 125mm to them (as infantry) and they don't want ANY to hit near them.

Whether the Western MBTs will change how they use them I don't know.

          Anonymous

That sounds dumb. What effect does tossing some HE in the general direction of the enemy achieve if your CEP is abysmal? Is it even worth the logistic burden?

            >k told me Russians don't use pallets.
Russia doesn't use pallets for distribution past their rail stations. Shit is shipped in bulk on pallets, then those pallets are unpacked and trucks are loaded with mixed shipments without pallets with the pallets just left at the stations.

              Anonymous

What? That's less believable than them not having pallets at all. That's insane.

Ask yourself what is the stupidest thing you can do in a situation, that’s this war in a nutshell for Russia

                Anonymous

The best I can figure they either don't have enough equipment to work with the pallets in the field downstream so there's no point in repackaging them, they view repackaging the mixed shipments as a waste of time and can't simply send out mixed shipments by rail in the first place because of their logistics methods, they're destroying irreplaceable packing materials during the unpacking, or they just don't give a frick.

But they're definitely doing this shit. Pictures of the frickmassive piles of pallets by the rail lines and trucks full of loose shit being unloaded by hand are both floating about.

                Anonymous

I have had multiple arguments with “people” saying pallets don’t work in the field because the ground is too unlevel for forklifts. The concept of different types, bucket forks, or any other kind of equipment is foreign to them

                Anonymous

I think it would be naive to assume pallet technology hasn't propagated to Russia and be more reasonable to assume Russia built their entire army for defensive wars with the assumption that they would have their internal logistics networks to rely on, did zero planning, drills, or preparation for how to organize and supply their men in the field, and have basically been fricking winging it since.

You see that shit in other cases such as them not having any contingencies for fuel or secure comms or intelligence gathering or how they literally abandoned using BTGs in the middle of the god damn war.

                Anonymous

They don't use BTG's anymore because they suffered horrendous losses with them, and the troops they have replaced them with cant operate within that structure.

its honestly hard to tell with russians

they firmly believe in their own propaganda, that they are so much smarter than the west for finding the tiniest possible niche a T-55 can still fill and then calling everyone else dumb for not having found that same incredibly tiny role for them
because it shows their tenacity, willingness to win, ingenuity, and reduced reliance on "high tech junk" compared to the west who threw away all their M60s instead of saving it for a rainy day

Ukraine's tank fleet is small and rarely encountered. You guys make a big deal about T55s but to an infantryman, there is little difference to him whether he is fighting a T90 or a T55. The tank will still blow up his trench and support its own infantry regardless. The T90s are being saved for when they get to blow up leopards and abrams at last.

Genuinely don't understand the mentality. They stand up to light AT weapons about as well as IFVs, their guns aren't as well suited as the autocannons on BMP-2/3 at infantry support, they add additional complexity to the logistics chain due to not having part commonality with most vehicles, they need a lot of fuel, etc.
Hell, even as self-propelled field guns the Rapirawaggens the Ukrainians improvised out of MT-LBs are better due to the lighter logistical load and carrying capacity. The only use-case I see marginally making sense is as mobile bunkers, but the aforementioned vulnerability to any moron with a lightweight, disposable AT weapon is going to give it a bad day. It isn't useless but it's an atrocious degradation of capabilities

It's tribal cheerleading. These guys are reverse-vatniks. They can't think objectively, instead they steal reasonable takes and exaggerate them in ways tailored to make the opposing team sound worse than they are.

It's a standard mental failure mode among normies.

          Anonymous

Case in point, I don't understand how you read what I posted and thought it was a positive review. I can't understand the mentality of the Russians deploying these because they have better alternatives except for use as tanks, where they're going to be piss poor on the offensive and a much lesser challenge than modern vehicles on the defensive, all at a disproportionate cost in logistics.

          >they stand up to light AT weapons
Black person, LAWs can achieve frontal penetration at about any angle.

Learn to read moron, I said they stand up as well as IFVs, which is not at all well particularly the Ruskie IFVs I'm referring to. I'm saying at offensively, they're worse than IFVs in many cases.

It makes sense as fire support against infantry, especially if you plaster on ERA ukrainian style. Think about when the last time you saw a tank vs tank engagement was. November maybe?

          Anonymous

          >fire support against infantry
Up close an IFV's autocannon is superior, a tank is only better due to it being protected firepower, the T-55 isn't well protected. From afar, Russian doctrine would tell you to saturate the area with artillery, and it does no better than something like the Rapirawaggen, which offers similar firepower with a much smaller logistical footprint.
          >plaster with ERA
No example thus far seen has had ERA nor the BDD applique armor. The Ruskies were improvising casings, which to this day I still am not sure whether they had an explosive element or if they were more than just applique steel plates, for T-72s. They've been reduced to using K-1/5 for some parts of their B3 Obr 2023s. What makes you think these will be plastered in ERA? Particularly when welding mounting points in a frontline workshop isn't going to be an easy task?
