Mexico is apparently getting an 8x8 version of this with a 40mm gun to replace most tracked ifvs in service. The 6x6 versions flip over.

I think Philipines finally convinced them to lift the veto.
Last i heard the manufacturer was looking into either Italian or Brazilian options.

Brazil fucked them over indirectly by giving them monkey model Brazilian parts instead of German ones.

They picked the Guarani because it was the base model of the ACV, they want parts commonality with their American overlords and possibly gibsmedat of those 8x8s years from now.

This will only force the already destitute Pinoy military to just settle for Czech Pandurs or whatever IFVslop Turkey has.

Also it's kinda a waste of shekels to just buy piecemeal, 20~ units isn't going to make any difference even with a paltry military like theirs. You'd think they're buying no less than 100 units plus command vehicles, spares, training vehicles and more importantly recovery vehicles so they don't abandoneer.

You'd probably bankrupt the nation overnight with such a purchase. Either way it's really only for Marawi-style COIN ops which is a big improvement vs the 4x4 Commandos they used previously.

The Philippines may be a turd world shithole but they're definitely not poor.

Third world countries their size and economy have beefier militaries, they simply prefer not to invest in defense because they rather pocket it and fly out in the face of real danger.

      >no less than 100 units plus command vehicles
Why would you need 100 new IFVs to tard wrangle some muslim tribesmen and commies with barely any modern AT weapons, on top of the stuff you already have? And it's also smarter to buy small first and see if it'll work for what you're going to use it for, you'll have less buyer's remorse then.

      >recovery vehicles so they don't abandoneer
Even with their M113 shitboxes, the flips aren't known to run.

Well, if I had to guess their thinking, their last major engagement was Marawi against those ISIL-affilated Abu Sayf guys. There were a lot of pictures of Philippine Army vehicles sporting improvised armor or just using soft-skin vehicles while doing troop transport, medevac, ammo resupply, etc. So a an APC with decent armor and a good carrying capacity/mobility would probably be high on their list.

Looking at their recent purchases it kinda is but they're poor as shit and having fleets of vehicles don't mean much if you end up broke just from maintenance.

True, but Brazil is generally the "sellable vanilla" part of the international arms market. They sell to people that can't afford the overbuilt US/Euro equipment or the maintenance costs that come with it, but don't want to buy (possibly nonfunctional) Russian/Chinese, or their various knockoffs. I don't know what the cost per hour per unit is of a Gurani, but I guarantee it is less than a Stryker.

Flips mostly do COIN shit right? I guess a good IFV is high on their priorities. How well did they manage in Marawi anyway?
Also I don't get why they don't have a stronger navy or coast guard, even considering the fact that they might just be keeping economical with waving their MDT with the US around instead of heavy spending, they still need shit to keep their seas and borders patrolled being an archipelago and all

They don't need to patrol all the islands; just the SCS, their borders above Taiwan and below Malaysia

They don't need to patrol their borders near Indonesia that much because both countries are friendly with one another and the distance between the nearest point between them is pretty long

Their eastern coastline is mostly safe and empty since Guam is just a couple of hours away

They need subs tbh, maybe Scorpenes or Type 21X with AIPs so it can stay underwater longer

The Phillipine Army did very well in Marawi, on short notice and against dug-in fanatics in a urban environment. They did it with very little artillery or air support, and their electronic support was provided by the US and Aussies.
They took casualties, and it took most of 4-5 months to clear one mid-size town, but they FOUGHT, they didn't just try and stand back and blast the place down or give up. However, a lot of threads around then were commenting how it looked like Vietnam War 2.0 - old M16s, M60's and M14's, M113 and Commando armored cars, LAWS rockets, etc, etc.

The Flips are poor, ridiculously corrupt, and prone to internecine fighting, but they are tough sonnuvaguns. I'm glad to see any better hardware they get.

their generals and politicians preferred pocketing taxpayer shekels for their own personal use rather than improving their shithole
marawi happened and their military got exposed for having no gear and having zero urban warfare training
now they've resorted into buying small quantities of modern gear just in case another marawi happens instead of jumpstarting a comprehensive military upgrade program where no general or politician will pocket taxpayer shekels and will go all in on beefing up their military
it's hilarious how they're the only ones getting stomped by china, china wouldn't dare do half of their stupid stunts against vietnam or indonesia

Married to flip. Their government basically pisses all their money away on bribes and sports complexes instead of useful stuff like hurricane shelters and military hardware. They really just need Marco to nut up and throw Abu in their concentration ca-jails and sink a Chinese boat or two they catch fishing in their waters know the US is there to back them up.
