I think he is wrong that F-16s will being CAS anytime soon.
I think they will be far more used as mobile AWACS, anti air, standoff SEAD, and artillery platforms.
While the older soviet platforms will stay on frontline duties.
None of the F-16 advantages really give it a leg up on CAS over soviet shit.
Does give it a huge leg up on support roles.

        Anonymous

        >None of the F-16 advantages really give it a leg up on CAS over soviet shit.
The main difference is actually being able to use western ordnance without having to juryrig it

          Anonymous

Yeah but most of those high end ordnance that require intergration to sensors are standoff range shit not CAS muntions.
Hence why I think its mostly going to be lobbing shit from the rear.

            Anonymous

I wasn't disagreeing with you, just clarifying one point. To be able to do anything but lobbing shit they would need dedicated SEAD which requires a lot more than a few F-16s

              Anonymous

Not really, the same thing was said about counter battery with NATO artillery that there wasnt enough guns to every manage it even if they were more accurate with 3x the range.
It took several months but its very noticable now
Yes more would allow for rapid suppression but even lobbing 2-3 HARMs using the F-16 RWR system a day will do an order of manituide worse damage than the blind firing they were doing from migs where most never saw even a target.
There isnt that many radars and air defense systems even 2-3 a day would have noticeable effects after a few month.

Glorious Russia has countered the drone attacks with the ultimate form of aircraft reactive armor.

I just had an interesting thought, what if you put really big ERA on top of a bunker, could that stop a bunker buster?

        Anonymous

Kind of an interesting idea actually, all practicalities aside of putting a lot of explosives on top of a bunker where there could be air defense etc stationed and would likely make camouflage more difficult. I think the major issue is that ERA is designed to defeat HEAT (and APFSDS iirc) rather than a fairly blunt 5000lb bomb traveling at terminal velocity which is designed to withstand enormous force by virtue of being a bunker buster. I'm sure that some sort of ERA would probably help but likely wouldn't outweigh the potential drawbacks.

        Anonymous

ERA is not a star trek shield. Bunker busters will be hitting it head on and blowing straight through.

          Anonymous

Idk why this is even a discussion.
ERA is trying to redirect an AT round or penetrator to allow the armour to do its job better, it's just a plate and a small amount of armour, bunkerbusters would go trough it without even noticing it.

          Anonymous

What if they made bigger anti Bunker buster ERA though?

Can't imagine the utility unless it interferes with terminal guidance sensors.

How good is this particular vid? I don’t have an hour to just chuck this week. The air strikes on Russia are definitely having a politicising affect on Russia right now, I don’t know that Girkin and Nalvany would be publishing their manifestos if the war hadn’t so thoroughly come to Russian soil. But I don’t have any information on how militarily effective it is not what to expect from it in the coming months as far as escalation and continuation goes

Also - did Russia just stop bombing Ukrainian military and civilian targets with drones and missiles? Can’t remember the last time I heard about a significant one, aside from the pool. Did they actually run out of ‘precision’ missiles or what

If you're not keeping up with the news churn, it's a good review; nothing you shouldn't already know otherwise.

      arent tires flammable?

        Anonymous

Yes but the idea is probably to catch low velocity fragmentation or prevent a shaped charge from detonating right on the skin of the plane.
I don't think it would really help at all though. The drone explosives usually aren't incendiaries, so if there's a fire it's usually ignited fuel.

But... it doesn't work? It's just tires anon. And tires are very flammable and burn long as well! It's the classic bong way to get rid of speed cameras, heave a tire over the thing and light it up.

What strategic targets have these strategic bombers bombed in this war? Give me a list of their accomplishments

        Anonymous

Not him and please keep in mind I am doing nothing more than attempting to answer your question:
Its hard to attribute with certainty from which platform they are being launched from, but any Kh-101 and -555 strikes are potentially from a Tu-95 (the only other likely alternative would be a Tu-160, another strat bomber). If you want to know precisely which strikes were a result of these weapons I have to confess to not keeping that close enough of a watch. Hopefully I have given you the tools you need if you do really want to go digging for those details.

You’re out of line, but you’re right.

The entire meat of a 1-hour Perun video, “Back-MOOT” pronounciations and all, could be boiled down to less than 20 minutes. That said it is pretty common in public speaking to repeat yourself a lot to drive points home but for a captive audience listening individually it seems unnecessary and wasteful of the viewer’s time.

Anon I completely agree. Russians have been playing 3D chess this entire SMO. Instead of a well executed feint on Kyiv, Russians bumbled around losing hundreds of vehicles and thousands of casualties to really convince everyone of the feint. This is simply not taught in textbooks and shows the resourcefulness of Russian doctrine. There are many other examples of wily Russians playing 69D Mahjong while the rest of the world looks on in awe at the pure genius of Russian planning.

Russia produces about 600k cars a year. Iran one million....

Germany produces 3.7 million. Spain 2.2 million. Canada 1.2 million.

Russian annual aerospace airports are worth about 500 million dollars.

Frances are about 50 *billion* dollars. Germany 34 billion. Canada 7 billion.

If Ukraine's allies - even excluding the US - made an effort to equip Ukraine with shaheed-style kamikaze drones they could absolutely blot out the Russian sky and put every light out in Western Russia the whole winter.

Shame the West is choosing to lose this war, on this front as on all others.

It could well be, even the most modernized F16 are getting a bit old. The issue for russia is that they produce their "newest stuff" in single-digit numbers, so no matter how good the plane or tank or whatever superweapon they propagandize it doesn't really matter.
