Open a can with your knife. Fix something with it. Use it to remove a split casing from your rifle. Use it to screw something back together. Where the frick are you opening coconuts at?

Nobody aside from fresh blood carries a big knife or bayonet unless they're forced to. They sit in the frickin pack in the truck at most when guys realize how completely impractical a big knife is for 99% of tasks and how little they actually ever use it.

          >Open a can with your knife.
Done that several times PROTIP cut the top off horizontally don't try and saw a hole in it vertically
          >Fix something with it.
          Yep
          >Use it to remove a split casing from your rifle.
Bulged but no quite split anyway check
          >Use it to screw something back together.
Yep about a million times even contemplated snapping the tip off to make a proper flathead, didn't need to tho
          >Where the frick are you opening coconuts at?
Dis homie doan know about the coconut man, bro you stop and get a couple on your way to the beach, chop the tops, fill em full of rum.
Now, have I changed a watch battery with my big knife, or used it to adjust a camp stove, no, pliers are still handy but frick man, a knife is what you need most of the time and multitools are for gaygits that work in IT and shop at REI

I went to a knife store in the tacoma, WA mall in 2012 just before deploying, bought a kabar that has "US ARMY" stamped in the leather. took it to afghan. platoon buys a goat so we can kill and eat it and I was the only one with a knife bigger than what's on a gerber so we used that

This. 100 times this because the leatherman will see 100 times more use than a kabar. Yeah, a kabar might be real handy in a SERE situation, but c'mon.

cold steel makes essentially the same thing but full tang
kabar has a lot of lore behind it but its rat tail tang

It is not. It is a full tang. The Cold Steel is a slab tang.

They're fine. Many better options for steel type and such, so don't overpay.
One thing that is nice is that they are nice thin blade stock, the way a knife should be, most of the modem equivalents are these massive sharpened prybars and stupidly overbuilt

Much like using marpat, it's just another thing for recroooters to use for their quotas. Broooo the marines have a unique camo (stolen from canada) that no one else can use and we have a unique knife that no one else can use!! sign the line pls

You could murder roasties with a tent stake or probably even a butter knife. It's that easy.

Something can be good but still outdated. It's a fine knife. It's not as durable as modern knives with slab tangs, fancy steels, and synthetic grips. If I was asked to choose a knife it wouldn't be a Ka-bar, but if someone handed me one and said "go to it" I wouldn't feel poorly equipped.

1095 is a good steel for the usecase and you can get it in a homosexualy tupperware handle instead of cool stacked leather if you want. The bowie clip point is the most alpha of blade shapes.

No guard. How am I supposed to slam stab insurgent hobos if my hand slips onto the blade?

        Anonymous

Grip it tight brother. Also it's meant for chopping, cutting and slicing. Which is what you'd use a knife for 99,99% of the time in a combat zone anyway. Pretty much a "pocket" tomahawk or machete.

        Anonymous

guards arent necessary for keeping your hand on the grip and were never for that. Youll see that knives used purely for work like a puuko never had them. The guard is to guard your hand from other blades.
