I plan on Digitizing and Publishing 2D Engineering Drawings and CAD/CAM files for hundreds of Firearms. These files would be free for all, and published in as many forms as possible to avoid censorship.
I feel DEFCAD's files are incomplete and unsatisfactory, Not to mention a Paywall which poses OPSEC issues. Overseas Citizens where access to guns are heavily restricted would struggle if they do not have complete Parts lists to complete their project.
With the advent of Rapid Prototyping Services and Cheap manufacturing services worldwide, In this day and age Everyone has the ability to manufacture firearms that would have otherwise been out of reach for them decades ago.
What do you guys think?

I kind of collect them, but only have like ten legitimate, useable packages fit for manufacturing total, and it's taken me a few years to get my hands on that quantity by itself.

Firearms are the single highest performance, mass-produced category of machine in existence. There are other higher-performance things- like rocket engines- but not produced on anything like the scale of firearms and ammunition. you need accuracy to thousandths of an inch, which you probably aren't going to get from the sort of scans you are talking about. Also, the most effective type of scanner is actualy a high-resolution video from all angles of the parts you want to scan; this idea of "put it on a machine and get magical copies" is likely to lead to problems that can be catastrophic and possibly fatal if you don't know what you are doing.

He's not talking about scanning firearms themselves. He's talking about scanning physical engineered drawings, which would almost certainly contain annotations, measurements, and tolerances, assuming they're legitimate.
Where would you even get these? If they're just plain old drawings then they've been on the internet for years.
If they're ones that most people have never seen before then I am completely on board, but most TDP's are company property and they are very closely guarded.
