The barrels are interchangeable and quickly changed, you are meant to shoot it until is worn out then just switch to a fresh barrel , who knows how much money they save by not chrome lining them. You sure they aren’t nitrided ? Nitride makes the barrel surface super hard wearing. You probably would get an extra 5-10,000 rounds out of a chromed barrel .

They might save money, but considering chrome lined CHF 18" X95s are the same price, they're sure as shit not passing on those savings to you.

Great news, idiot: Steyr regularly does runs of 20" barrels for people whose lives aren't complete without the ability to vibe check steel plates with M193.

FN barrels are trash and don't meet Steyr's specification because Americans accept "M249 BRO!" garbage barrels sold by PSA. Steyr also isn't willing to ship their shit here since Steyr USA isn't important to them and America changes firearms policy like underwear. Nitriding is better anyway only the twist rate is a legitimate complaint.

            Anonymous

            1. Glock only made their slides DLC for Gen5—before that, it was all one form of ferritic nitrocarburizing or another.
            2. True, but you're the one claiming that a barrel treatment generally regarded as being just as good as chrome lining for semi-auto fire ACTUALLY exhibits wear characteristics comparable to bare metal; do you have a single fact to back that up?

              >barrel treatment generally regarded as being just as good as chrome lining for semi-auto fire
No it's simply inferior, that's all there is to it. It's just cheaper and easier to manufacture and they don't need to throw out as many duds, they can just sell them. Ask yourself why no serious military uses that trash in any of their guns, even sniper rifles, which according to nitride proponents would be ideal candidates for the process because of low volume of fire. They use chrome even for them because the barrels last significantly longer even with low volume of fire. Nitride is strictly for civilian blasters because they know most civilian shooters won't care if their gun is durable and accurate far into the future.

Correct, it's the superior twist for an universal rifle, the only reason you think otherwise is because you've been mindfucked by the US market, which shills 1:7" milspec barrels to you because that's what they make for the military.
The only reason the military uses 1:7" is to stabilize M856 longcats.
