    Yeah

Now i wanna see an Ukie Su with Phoenixes. Imagine the level of dabbing such a loadout would bring.

Those old dumb "smart" missiles are pretty useless without constant target illumination. A Meteor has more range than a Phoenix, while being capable of maneuvering and self-tracking.

      It's an SU-24. A bomber/interdictor

It can technically carry very short range heatseaking missiles for AA but that would be like fitting AIM-9s on a less capable B1

        >a less capable B1
The Su-24 is closer to the F-111 in design and doctrine.

Yes, agree, but I was explaining to a moron tourist that one would not mount R-60s on an interdictor so mentioning the F-111 would probably not register in his brains catalogue of airframes.

R-60M really aren't going to do anything to protect you against the A2A threats in theatre.
Probably not worth the weight and drag to install.
It's also possible they are running low from using them against Shaheeds and cruise missiles, their 29s and 27s had likely transitioned completely to R-73 a long time ago, and there would have only been a small stockpile of old R-60 to draw from.

      >a less capable B1

F-111 is quite a bit more capable surprisingly.

        >F-111 is quite a bit more capable surprisingly.
Well, obviously. The Su-24 is a primitive turbojet rustbucket.

In terms of range and payload it's more comparable to something like a tornado, despite being the same OEW as an F-111.
It's just surprising because it's practically a decade newer.
Probably the worst example of the lag in soviet aviation technology.

to specify why this is funny, the tornado empty weighs 20,000 pounds less than the su-24

The missiles are programmed on the ground. After that, it's just a matter of rigging up a connector so that you can press the button.

Remember seeing footage of Ukie Wizzos using iPads to drop GBU's.

Basically the drop mechanism is aftermarket and is idk bluetooth? So there's a trigger to release it.

Then the GBU is guided by laser or locked onto a target before dropping by the iPad.

Really ingenius. The best tech is low-tech.

Basically all the weapons they got don't depend on Radar guidance (which is why F-16's might be a good idea). There is also talks of some of them being guided by local NATO assets.

Storm shadow can be mission planned and programmed on the ground, so all that really needs to be done is to make sure that the weapon will clear the aircraft on release, possibly provide power and an activation signal to the weapon (may not even be necessary) and make sure the setup can withstand some maneuvers.

Because they do the same thing as the HARM, programme target coordinates on the ground, the only thing the aircraft needs to do is send a launch signal. HARM/SS are being used in their most basic modes

For HARM it's quite a disadvantage to not be able to integrate with avionics.
It doesn't really matter so much for Storm Shadow though because of how complicated the mission planning is.
It's not something you can really do, on the fly, from from the wienerpit anyway.
