This is an SDMR. What features are or are not present on it has no bearing on whether or not the M4 will continue to be produced with a forward assist.

The Shitspear has a side charging handle, it actually does not need a forward assistant.

I hate that they abandoned the M110 for that HK thing.

It's being replaced because it's a gigantic piece of shit loathed by everyone who has to deal with it.

        Anonymous

Pardon my ignorance but why is it "a gigantic piece of shit" its an Ar-10 with a scope, suppressor and bipod. what could possibly be so bad about it?

          Anonymous

With suppressor, its nearly 4ft and 17.5 pounds.

Lack of a forward assist, compared to the SR-25. Made quietly chambering a round near impossible.

No zero stop on the issued Leupold scopes.

A few reports of wild inaccuracy after a few hundred rounds from shit barrels.

Imo the weight and length matter a lot more for military use when you have to actually carry the thing, and you can't wheel it out in a pelican case to your PRS matches. The forward assist missing was just the gov being greedy homosexuals who didn't want to pay for the patent design.

            >A few reports of wild inaccuracy after a few hundred rounds from shit barrels.
            that's unfortunate.

            >The forward assist missing was just the gov being greedy homosexuals who didn't want to pay for the patent design.

Interesting I didn't know that. I thought it was Stoner deciding against it on the SR-25 design.

I might be mixing that up with the forward assist? I'd have to look into it more, but it still sucks not having it for the reason I mentioned. I stick to bolt actions though, and my only hands on knowledge of AR-10's is the piece of shit my cousin bought.

I'm always amused by the disconnect between morons who will drop 20-30k on one of those turds and the dudes who are actually forced to use one who would happily toss it down a ravine if they could get away with it.

        > $4350-4650 rifle
        > $11250-11950 automatic rifle
        > $10950-13650 smart optic
        > $1.97-2.60 per round for the General Purpose (GP) Combat ball round.
        > $2.08-3.15 per round for the Reduced Range training ball round.
        > $20-23 per round for the Special Purpose (armor piercing) combat round (the FY24 procurement says $12.37 per round, but the FY25 documents go up to $23 per round and say basically SIG lied about the $12 price and their estimate was WAYYY off)
Assuming 140 rounds carried for a rifleman that would be $275.80 in regular combat ammo at the lowest price, $291.20 for a full load of training ammo, and ~$2800 for a full load of armor piercing rounds. The LMG carry load is 400 rounds, so that would be $788 for regular combat ammo, $832 for training ammo, and $8000 for armor piercing (though I can't imagine they would do full links of AP).

So that's anywhere from ~$15575.80 for the regular rifle, regular ammo, and the optic. ~$22988 for the LMG with the same ammo/optic. All the way up to ~$18100 for the rifle with armor piercing rounds, or ~$30200 for the LMG with armor piercing.

        That's some expensive kit.

Is that block with the deflector and forward assist a molded piece of glass reinforced nylon? That's...certainly interesting. The texture heavily implies it.

I mean, if it just screws into the side of the gun, why not? It's easily replaced and will probably last longer than the barrel.

It's just so weird. It's a feature that's supposed to be used in case of emergency, possibly during a firefight (theoretically) so let's not make it out of aluminum, make it out of plastic. I mean I'm sure it's good nylon, just weird to see.

The variant that was adopted doesn't have it or have the provisions for it. The plastic POS is for the Spear LT and MCX.
