There are better options than Bakhmut. It would at best be a victory for morale or whatever.

It takes a lot of shells, but if you're willing to "KEEP FIRING buttholeS!" you will level the buildings to rubble, block by block. That's what Russia did in Grozny.

They just don't have enough ammo now to do it effectively, hence them trying to use TOS-1 and shit to make up the difference.

Wagner does need the ammo but Prigozhin is lying out of his ass when he says Wagner is leaving Bakhmut on the 10 of May.

There's a neat rail loop in the area they could use for logistics to support the liberation of several doughnuts. It would humiliate the Russians and rout some of their better units (deconstituting the reconstituted VDV on the flanks in particular)

I think the main reason for Ukrainians defend Bakhmut is because they want to deny Russia any single kind of victory they can hold to their faces, especially during this year's May 9th parade.
American advisors apparently tried to convince the Ukrainians to fall back from Bakhmut to more strategically important and manageable positions, but the Ukrainians blew off their advice. I partly understand the Ukrainians. The Americans have the advantage of seeing it from an outsider's perspective, but for the Ukrainians it's different. It's as if America was invaded and someone else told them to abandon Concord, North Carolina because the city is of little strategic importance in the scale of things.

keep in mind that retreating from bakhmut also means ruskies nuke several more cities out of existence. bakhmuit is destroyed so there isn't anything else to destroy for russians

How does chimping out against civilians actually help monke win the war? And I'm being charitable and assuming you're not being literal when you say nuke.

            Anonymous

            1) russians don't care about ukie lives, civilians or not. that's first thing that one has to understand. it isn't "why are they doing it", it's "why wouldn't they be doing it"
            2) same like the various torture, beheading, execution videos etc, terror bombing also helps russians to tempt bring ukies on their level of cruelty. and if ukies get on that level, they will lose international support and lose.

you have to look at it from russian perspective to realize that there's no downside in leveling everything they can to ground. the main goal of the war isn't really to "win", as much as to just make ukraine "lose".

But that's fricking moronic, Ukraine is going to get Marshall Planned to the economic level of Poland or something, and a big part of that will be rebuilding their own defense industrial base. The more Russia chimps out the more Ukranians will support an Israel level of defense policy.

You wouldn't understand as a white man. For slavs and other lower hominids, attacking a weaker opponent when facing an unwinnable conflict is automatic behavior. It's kind of like when you put a dog behind a fence, then put its favorite toy outside the fence. The dog is prevented from interacting with its environment in the way it wants, so a lot of them become insanely aggressive and sometimes they'll bite a human on their side out of frustration. So it goes with the slav. The slav's favorite "toy," in this case un-raped women and buttholes that do not yet have AIDS-riddled cum in them, is out of reach due to the Ukrainian "wall." Hence, the slav attacks anything within reach.

Sad really, the breed was quite majestic once but it's regressed significantly ever since it became popular with brownoids. Many such cases.

Gherkin's take is that staying Bakhmut is good for the Ukies because R*ssian command is too moronic to do anything but shove thousands of soldiers into this meat grinder head first rather than doing literally anything else that is even slightly less idiotic.

          Anonymous

Mighty Puccia doesn't have much longer they can stay there either. A few days ago they reported that besides what was left of Vaginer, the sum total of troops and equipment present there was around 27,000 (1 weak army corps) and a little under 1,500 pieces of equipment most of which were IFVs, with less than 70 tanks and 150 pieces of artillery remaining. Without reinforcements, the rest are likely to be butchered if Ukies decide to take them on with even a portion of the reserves stationed in Chasiv Yar and environs.

The Russo-Ukranian War. There's no honest discussion with vatniks about what "victory" looks like because if I'd told you in Feburary 2022 we'd be having this conversation you'd have called me a delusional khohol piggy axaxaxa or whatever. Western support continues, Europe didn't freeze, there's an entire NATO trained and equipped army corps sitting in Zaphorizia with Bradleys, Strykers, Leopards and Challengers (and about 1500 assorted MRAPs, even more uparmored humvees, Polish PT-91s, entire companies of M109s...)

Bakhmut never had much value. That wasnt a weird Ukrainain cope, it was honest-to-god truth. Very little importance comapred to alternatives. The value was using it to bleed the vodka Black folk of ammo and troops.

Rout the VDV on the flanks with a mechanized punch from the new NATO brigades to blood them. Flood with TDF, surround the city, then send the NATO brigades south on internal lines for a Tokmak push.

    >losing land
Russia lost more territory than they have gained since march 2022.
    >critical infrastructure
Which is being consistently repaired and supplied by western support. Targeting infrastructure is meaningless unless you're able to disrupt their ability to rebuild it.

Why there's that Russian obsession with using Soviet-era place names?

      Anonymous

It's not an obsession. It is just another cogwheel in the propaganda. Makes it look as if the area belongs to them. Imagine Mexico attacking Texas and New Mexico, referring to old Mexican names for the locations they are trying to invade. It is how you sell it. Maybe noone outside Mexico would buy it, but as long as it lengthens the queue outside the enlistment offices back home their strategy is working.
