Now that the battle of bakhmut is over or almost over, how do you think it will be studied in the future? If anything it's shown that trench warfare can somehow be even more brutal with drones. I wonder what historians will say about why this salt mining city became a mini-verdun of Ukraine.
>I wonder what historians will say about
western powers are responsible for letting Putin murder hundreds of thousands of his people at his leisure at a place and method of his choosing instead we choosing who dies, where and how
Oh, is the West (the US) supposed to be the World Police? I thought you foreigners wanted us to stop doing that?
I have an idea: if your irrelevant countries want our protection, you can start picking up the tax burden from US citizens.
at no point did I mention US in my message
I think it all depends on what it leads up to. It's unlike Verdun in the sense that it was primarily a PMC group that did the fighting. That could be a turning point in itself in modern warfare.
It could have also been a remarkable waste of time and have little effect in turning the tide in anyone's favor. Both sides lost a ton of men and material. It's whole new city that needs to be defended. Ukrainians had more than enough time to construct a line of defense outwide Bakhmut, and the terrain isn't very favorable for attack. I guess we'll see what's next on the battlefield.
>wagner group
>a turning point in itself in modern warfare.
Wagner Group is a cheap imitation of Paladin Group started by Otto Skorzeny post war
You're probably right, but I still think it is significant to see this in a modern peer war.
the french used best nazi mercenaries in indochina money could buy
>it was primarily a PMC group that did the fighting. That could be a turning point in itself in modern warfare.
the only lesson to learn from that is that if your regular army is profoundly corrupt and incapable, a private army might perform better. but europe's known that since like, 1400. mercenaries aren't new.
It'll be a reminder that when in doubt be like the Americans and use bulldozer tanks to bury them fucking Ukrainian pigs!
Its gonna be a prime example of the sunk cost fallacy and the fact that its sometimes better to take an L (aka russians giving up on bakhmut and trying shit somewhere else)
Instead of you know wasting tons of resources for a position thats not even good for further offensives since bakhmut is in a valley so their gonna have to do both a mental and physical uphill battle for the next city like 2km away
good thing >you didn't waste tons of resources for a position like that then
They did, they could have used Wagner on a better target.
Now they have no Wagner to use.
Who cares? Russia proper is being invaded as we speak.
has there been an actual battle or have Russians just levelled the place to shit? All the combat in Backmutt I've seen on Leddit is just small skirmishes and probing attacks, with a few major Ukrainian pushes to retake neighbourhoods
It has been both. There have been many suicide human wave attacks and when they don't work they just level the place with artillery and aviation and attack again. Rinse and repeat. After the fifth try they usually managed to advance by 100m. And here we are today.
It’s been confirmed that there was a bunch of building to building fight but barely any footage for now because it’s probably overtly brutal not as great for propaganda purposes. Funnily enough one of the few vids out there is something as insane as launching a RPG down a hallway
>over or almost over,

Battle of Bakhmut - 9 months and 3 weeks
Battle of Verdun - 9 months, 3 weeks and 6 days
Ukrainian MoD still hasn't confirmed that Bakhmut is lost and the battle is considered ongoing
That logo looks familiar
Thank you anon, saved
that is the joke, actual logo differs
It will be studied as a battle where both sides over committed due to political concerns.
Ukraine should have pulled up to the high ground around Chasiv Yar in January, but had a fiasco in Soledar where they got a bunch of quality troops killed by artillery and doubled down to the point where they had to suffer having their troops sitting in a punch bowl as bait with unfavorable losses for two months. They had to then invest their experienced mechanized troops to stabilize the situation.
Russia got too cocky after Soledar and tried to envelope Bahkmut. Wagner group's flanking attempts were so thoroughly annihilated by Ukraine's experienced mechanized forces that Wagner has ceased to exist an an effective fighting force and the flanking's maneuvers thrusts are collapsing. Russia's win condition saw them wasting shells leveling the entire city. They now occupy the low terrain with no defensible structures, and will have to commit reserves that should have been sent south as Ukraine's mechanized brigades gnaw around them.
Generally, a tremendous waste of life, but such is all wars.
Well the ukies explanation that they wanted to limit the destruction that russians cause with their assaults, and by looking at Bakhmut yhe I'd say fair due they leveled the place like Mariuopol. And well russians are now exhausted to the point that the last unit that was assaulting is probably retreating in 25 of May if they don't get the call form the MOD to stay there longer since shit in belgarod
Today I will remind them
