Is HIMARS in range of the bridge? Without ATACMS?

Probably not, I just wanted to post the frogs. Fingers crossed for the next aid package, or I suppose we'll get it when Lend-Lease kicks in.

Is HIMARS in range of the bridge? Without ATACMS?

        No.
We gave them 92km missiles, and even ATACMS are only 200km.
PrSM is 500km, but they need special vehicles iirc and there's no way we'd give Ukraine our magitech soulengine missiles.

          Maybe it's an air mission?

            Anonymous

Airstrikes might be possible but I have no idea what Uke capabilities are right now.
That strike a while ago that everyone freaked out MUST have been ATACMS was an airstrike I think.

... maybe they're just establishing a defense line for what will happen later.

special vehicles? You can fire 2 from HIMARS and 4 from M270

            Anonymous

Looks like HIMARS can fire it, but only the A2 variant MRLS can launch PrSM, and Ukraine has the A1.

          >ATACMS 200km
          it's 300km
still not likely to be used though.

Could be saboteurs ( we know they're in crimea) with drones? or perhaps again one of those 5k Alibaba drones like they used at the oil refinery some months back?

ATACMS range is limited by treaty only. The real range is considerably longer.

I have no source, it came to me in a dream or a psychotic episode, but: I am 100% certain that China and Russia had a deal to make near simultaneous moves on their respective territorial claims, and that China got cold feet and decided to hang back a bit to see how things went for Russia. Once it became clear that it wouldn't work out and the tactical redeployment from Kiev happened, the chance of a Chinese assault on Taiwan in the immediate future dropped to near zero. They might do it if NATO commits major portions of it's ground troops, but since most of the American assets being tied down now are materiel and satellites, I don't believe the Chinks deem a Taiwan OP feasible. Any posturing in that direction is just an attempt to keep Russia from receiving undivided attention.

not a crazy hypothesis anon, neither of these nations have anything resembling honor so them ratfricking each other is absolutely plausible
My adjustment to your theory is China was lined up next, after the assumed rolling-over of Ukraine. The West would be reeling and in the chaos it would make it much easier. That hasn't happened so China's invasion hasn't happened.

          >“China wants to take some actions to counter American strategic pressure,” said Professor Zhu Feng, dean of the Institute of International Relations at Nanjing University.

          >But this is also where Mr Xi has to maintain a “tricky” balance, he added.

          >“Russia has become an object of condemnation by the international community and it has suffered setbacks in the war. Further strengthening China-Russia strategic coordination is not in China’s interests,” he said.

          Let's also consider this one:
          https://asia.nikkei.com/Politics/International-relations/Xi-vows-to-back-Kazakh-sovereignty-in-Central-Asia-power-play

          >It also quoted Xi making a strong statement in support of Kazakhstan -- one that seemed likely to resonate in the context of neighboring Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

          >"No matter how the international situation changes, we will continue to resolutely support Kazakhstan in protecting its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, firmly support your ongoing reforms to ensure stability and development, and categorically oppose the interference of any forces in the internal affairs of your country," Xi was quoted as saying.

Is there any credible estimate of how much explosive/which weapon would realistically be able to actually ”take out” this bridge?
When people talk about blowing up the Kerch bridge I assume they mean blowing a small gap in it, or would a sufficient amount of just roughing it up/cratering be the realistic military objective?

Just putting enough holes in a small portion ruins the bridge to where armor or nothing like that can roll across. It's all held by stressed beams of rebar which once broken support nothing and the slightest amount of weight could crumble it.

Russia will learn nothing from this after it's over and descend into ever more stringent purity spirals against the insignificantly patriotic and eventually end up a larger North Korea while the West will now ignore all their saber rattling that used to cow them.

Would be funny but c'mon, these are very expensive missiles. Not to say the US can't make up for those losses, of course.

          >very expensive
We will spare no expense, the arsenal of democracy has no limits.

            >arsenal of democracy
Fricking barf. I had at least hoped Afghanistan would have taught you types about the limits of democracy as an ultimate ideal, but it seems you're about as teachable as the vatniks.

You can lead a horse to water, etc. etc. Democracy is the most maintenance intensive and representative form of government

The Afghan project failed because the locals were not susceptible to the idea of a nation state and were instead mired in actual tribalism, they did not want what we were offering, and such it was never going to work and we should have pulled out ages ago.
Ukraine is different, they actually wanted Ukraine to exist as an idea, and so they took a fraction of what we sent to the sandbox and used it to go from ex soviet satellite state tier country to a full fledged western martial force in just five years.
Through superior morale and tactics tailored to their size they fought Russia to a standstill before the international megabucks even had a chance to arrive.

Time for Ukrainian Commoando Raid on the bridge. Get a bunch of Russian speakers with fake documents. Send them into Russian occupied Ukraine with small arms and a truck full of explosives. Drive to the bridge and have one poor sod drive it over a pier and then detonate.
